    Hi everybody!

I just wanted to share with you what I did today because I was a little bored... It's just a four second file of 0.8 megs!

    http://s48.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1JI5TVUM7XPS414TD25ASUHH2Q

    Comments and suggestions are welcome!

    EDIT: Typping error... :D

before the ignition, i can see a color difference where the subtraction mask is... very slight though, you see a subtle change in the color of the background there while you move the prop

    otherwise, nice job

How can you see it! I thought it was completely invisible! LOL

I did my best to change the brightness of the empty font so it stays the same all the time... I even did multiple layers with masks of each color so I can tweak the brightness of each color independently... But it seems I've been owned!

And I want to know if the little subtle lens flare when the lightsaber is opening is really necessary?

EDIT: Oh... I hope it's not that much impressive!

eh, i just have an eye for these kinda things :)

if by lense flare, you mean the part where the base of the blade is a ball, then it forms into the blade... its not really necessary, but it can look cool at times, mostly its about personal opinion

No I did not mean that, because the ball is a kinda cool add to the effect, but the blue lens flare at the first two frames of the ignition... On the right and left side of the ball. Do you see it? And is it really necessary?

no, honestly i don't see any lense flares there lol, i do see some extra light being cast though...

personally i don't add light flares to my ignitions anyway

I thought the little ball effect at the beginning of the ignition was a nice touch. :)

Not the best I've seen, but not the worst. I'd said more best than worst though. Good job!

Yeah at first when I rendered it without the little ball it just didn't looked like there was energy employed to open the blade. So I did a little tweak and now it looks like there is unstable energy coming from the hilt but it's stabilising after 2-3 frames.

And by the way, the hilt was made by me using some plumbing at my local hardware store, is it looking good?

EDIT: Thanks lol, I know it's not the best! That's why I post my test here so that I can improve it!

    The hilt looks good.

The saber I have to say that you need a little more pratice. The blade either comes on top of the hilt or it's a little off.

I too saw the color difference where the sub-mask is!

The blade color looks good though.Keep it up.If this is your first try,it's looking good!

That was cool even for only 4 seconds. I also liked the little ball effect before it extended.

And I might sound dopey...but I liked the handle, too. [face_laugh]

Nice, I haven't learned to do good looking ignitions yet, did you follow some tutorial?

    :D :D u look so funny when u turn to camera :D :D

I would do stick in hilt method it, easier imo, atm u have the blade very unstable due ur hand moves, other way u could track the stick, and mask out for the ignition. Its wide thin not ball shape at first frame, like others sayd lens flare works, edit to your suit.

I used Ryan W tutorial for masking out the blade and making it appear after but I tweaked for adjusting the lighting of the background I used to mask the blade (The lighting changed because I was there). I also used the tutorial of Ryan for the lightsaber blade but I did the ball effect at the beginning for preference because I liked that!

It's not the first time I do this... (The second!) But I agree I should zoom more when I adjust the mask! For the color difference I don't understand, could someone explain to me what is the problem?

That looks pretty good, but I too could see the subtracting mask for when you were moving the saber before the ignition. And the saber is off the hilt a little bit. Good Job.
