Is there a difference between "plaid" and "tartan" in this case?

Or does tartan only apply to specific Scottish clan patterns?

I don't particularly care what appeared in sci-fi before Star Wars. Just because Star Trek has gravity on the Enterprise and Inertial Dampeners doesn't mean such things are even remotely within the realm of possibility.
Yeah, I understand that. I just don't need some sort of expanded explanation regarding how the Falcon got from the asteroid belt to Bespin. Just like I don't need an explanation for how people are able to walk around the Falcon at full gravity. Or how a space slug could live in an asteroid. Or how there's an atmosphere in that slug's body. Etc.

Didn't we see the freighter in Attack of the Clones en route to Naboo in the hyperspace tunnel.

Nope. It was just flying through normal space. It would have been the perfect opportunity to do it though.

Right, thanks for the clarification. It was probably an animatic of the freighter I remember.

Tut, tut. That sounds a bit like nostalgia to me, and that's a dirty word around here. Remembering things fondly is just "Fan service" and would be "Pandering". In fact, if you haven't stopped liking a film by the time it's released on DVD/Blu-ray then you're just a fanboy, and should be ignored. Enjoying things from the past has an expiration date, my friend. Don't travel down the dark path of loving things and wanting to see them again. I'm not sure why they're even making more Star Wars films. That's so 1977.;)

Oh noos, don't want to be labeled as a fan of these films! *runs away in shame for liking Star Wars* :p

I always assumed it made stops along the way to Naboo, and they were approaching the next one in line.

George wanted the PT to look different from the OT so he changed the hyperspace jump, for one thing. I would like to see it return for the ST. BTW- JJ used the PT style of jump for his last ST film which was pretty cool, but I still like the stars stretching from the cockpit of the Falcon. As the OP said, "ICONIC!"

I think the issue people had with PT fan service was the fact that Lucas designed the movies to be watched 1-6, so that with future generations, there would actually be no fans watching episode 1. So if the "fan service" moments didn't integrate well into the story, they would just be distracting. There shouldn't be as many "fan service" gripes about episode 7.

I always thought that Hyperspace was another dimension.

The OT Lightspeed effect needs to be in the ST.

I never even noticed the hyperspace thing wasn't in the prequels until I saw it pointed out after the fact. So for me, a reappearance isn't necessary simply because we saw the effect in the earlier films. Although overall I'd much rather see a Falcon callback than yet another "I have a bad feeling" repetition or something truly dreadful a la Han always shoots first.

"IHABFAT" has to stay in, because it is a staple of every single film. Han and and the Falcon aren't.

For me it's already gone past fun repetition and into Pavlovian gimmick territory. I wouldn't miss the line at all.

As long as it doesn't seem shoe-horned in, I like it. It's like Abrams' Jub Jub soda. Some directors have things that they always sneak into each of their films. Star Wars is a series that does this. I think it's neat.

That's not true. Even though he didn't show it, it doesn't mean it don't look and work the same way.

It is true. I remember reading it from him or hearing it from him.

And in no way did I say it worked different -- it was just a different perspective.

Then why did they show the wormhole or spacelane effect in TCW if that era was meant to be different?

I didn't say era -- I said PT. George said he wanted the hyperspace to appear differently in the PT. I never mentioned TCW.
