    In defense of FOTR:

Wait for all 3 movies before you whine about details. The gifts will be added in the NOV. DVD release and they will play a part later.

Arwen is seen more b/c SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!

She marries Aragorn at the end of ROTK. Remember that Eowyn fell in love with Aragorn and she is around a lot. It would be a bit odd for Arwen to be there at the end and marry him when no one knows who the hell she is. END SPOILERS!!!!!!!

Bombadil was not essential to the story, thats why he was out. They did a fantastic job with the films. Treebeard and SHelob are in the films, have faith.

However, Shelob will be in ROTK, not TTT, b/c Frodo and SAm have nothing to do after that part.

Well that sux. But yeah, I'm sure that Aule is Tom Bombadil. A friend of Tolkien wrote him a letter with this theory right before he died, and he confired it. Besides, I have a hell lotta evidence to back it up. And, yes I did remember that arwen marries aragon, but they didn't have to put her as a frigggin amazon! They could have just had her help Glorfindel or make out with aragorn, or something. Now I have some pressing buissness *goes to make LOTR thread in Misc, and secretly asks anyone here to join*.

I guess i have gotten used to Arwen's role in the movie, but i hope they don't work her into TTT, i mean thats the one book that she really isn't in she was in the Trailer, but that might have been a flashback. I think what may happen *shudder* is that Arwen will come and they'll set up some kind of love tirangle thing. *shudder*

EDIT: one beef i have is that eowyn doen't look right, it might just be the pictures, but she looks too old and scared. all i have to say is that they D**N well better have her killer the lord of the nazgul and his monster steed in an amazing fight. She is one of my favourites and she deserves that victory.

I think SW may have been slightly touched by Tolkien's influence but not htat much. It has far more in common with Arthurian legend and Japanese myths and Greek mythology, specifically the Oedipus stories (albeit very muted reflections).
The Force is born from Aikido and its use of ki or chi, life energy. GL has stated as much.
THe traveling companions as heroes story has its roots deep in heroes tales from lllloooonnnggg ago. Long before Tolkien.

Palpatine definitely had some nods to Sauron, and Obi Wan to Gandalf. Although it can be pointed out that both Obi Wan and Gandalf are based off of Merlin.

There is a touch of Siegried and Fafnir and the Ring of Nebulung (really screwed up the spelling, I know) in both stories as well.

Arwen does show up in TTT but only to give Narsil to Aragorn.

ANd do you even know what an Amazon is? All Arwen did was ride a horse and use the power of her people to make a wave. She did not fight with a sword or anything like that. You are making something out of nothing.

Yes, she defied the Nazgul and they portrayed her more like luthien. She was supposed to be like her mother, a healer and princess. They made it look like she destroyd the nazgul and could fight them. This just ticks me off, because they made it so that Liv would get more screen tie, not to improve the story.

Edit: And I've now created the LotR thread, so anyone that joins today gets a free lembas.

Also, keep in mind, a lot, not all, but a lot, of what goes on between Arwen and Aragorn is from the appendices. Tolkien even said he wanted to put it in the books, but could not find a place.

And also, these are not the books. They are films and films have to take liberties sometimes. These are small details that do not affect the overall story. Don't let it get to you.

Arwen doesn't show up at any time in TTT she doesn't make even the shortest apearance. And she never gives Narsil to Aragorn.

Sorry to get off the subject,I just have a quick question.

Did anyone get a copy of the movie that the voices are off, half way into it? I though it was just my copy, but I went and got another, and i had the same problem.

Did this happen to anyone else?

    (Justwondering)

Perhaps, Dooku left the Jedi Order, caused havoc on Middle-earth with Sith powers, and then met up with Palpatine...?

Dark Lord, I agree with you. Star Wars is a combination of a variety of influences. I'm not sure why this forum became a LOTR forum, but I like LOTR as well. But, there is something about Star Wars that makes it for me. Have you read the book "The Journey of Luke Skywalker"? It's a philosophical take on SW, primarily the OT. It takes SW and breaks it down focusing on the psychological aspect and the mythological influences. It is so interesting. I loved it. I couldn't put it down. The author is Steven A. Galipeau. A friend of mine told me about it. Check with Amazon or your local bookstore. It would be in the psychological section NOT Sci Fi. You're right about the Force=chai. I think that there is alot more to SW than what meets the eye. LOTR was great, and I did read the books btw, but there isn't the spiritual vibe that I think SW has.

LOTR does have some similarities with SW. But if you really want to talk about close stories, trying comparing SW with Frank Herbert's Dune.

Jedi Wookie Reborn, Tom Bombadil has nothing to do with Aule or his wife he's actually one of the Maia like Gandalf, Sauron and Saruman. The Valar the group of entities that Aule is a part are one step above the Maia and were created by Eru at the beginning of time. The Similarion goes in greater detail about the creation of Middle Earth and the first two ages of Middle Earth including the rebellion of Melkor who was Sauron's master before he was defeated and thrown into the Void. After Melkor was finally defeated Sauron took his place as the Dark Power. Aule is also the creator of the Dwarves, like Morgoth he desired to create life but the motives behind his creation of Dwarves were entirely different from Morgoth's. The Valar have not taken direct action on Middle Earth since Morgoth's defeat at the end of the First Age but they did send the Istari the group of Wizards that Gandalf is a member of to Middle Earth to help inspire the races to defeat Sauron by themselves. Interestingly Gandalf was the only member of that order who held true to his mission to defeat Sauron Saruman betrayed the Valar by allying with Sauron at first before trying to claim the ring for himself whereas Radagast the Brown became disinvolved with the Free Peoples of Middle Earth the fate of the other two is not recorded to the best of my knowledge.
