in ROTJ Luke throws his lightsaber away on the death star, and I've always assumed that he threw it down into the abyss (where Vader eventually throws Palpatine). In the non-canon universe he finds it again but I was wondering whether they are going ignore that?

I guess my question is, does anyone have any confirmation of what Luke's lightsaber will be like in Episode VIII? Original green? Or new design?

In the new canon Luke still keeps the green lightsaber after RotJ. There is even a story set after RoTJ featuring Poe's parents where Luke still has the green lightsaber.

The Death Star repairmen found it before they left. Gave it back to him.

That face when you just ended the reign of the Sith and you see a drunken Admiral Akbar dancing with Ewoks.

The abyss in the scene is on his right side (the viewers left), he threw his lightsaber to his left (the viewers right) which is away from the bridge and towards the emperor... and you can hear it hit the floor.

It would be very easy for him to retrieve, and I always assumed he did so before dragging Anakin to safety.

Wonder if Sheev insisted on really dramatic chasms for his bachelor pad on the original Death Star. Maybe we find out in R1. Or that Galen Erso put them there hoping that the eventual outcome wound up materializing.

Right...I'm guessing Marquand forgot to have it hitched on Hamill's belt during the evacuation scene.

To be honest, I never looked for it in that scene before. I've noticed he had it on Endor, but never looked for it when he was in the docking bay.

Amongst many, many other errors. He probably slipped it onto his boot to stop it bashing his Father's head when dragging him through the Death Star corridors.

Right. RM was merely an adept when it came to directing. It's still a great film in my eyes, but there were problems.

Luke was holding his lightsabre in the same place that Christopher Walken held Butch's gold fobwatch during the war: it was an emergency measure.

It's one of the things that Lucas should have corrected in his re-edits, if anything at all.

Where did Luke get the crystal from to build the green LS?

Good question. It's not movie canon but I believe it came from some of Obi Wan's belongings left on Tatooine.

Or it is the crystal Jyn wears.
I am wondering if we see in R1 Leia giving the DS plans to R2D2 and Obi Wan (Ewan McGregor) receiving the crystal

A Ewan R1 cameo would be the bomb :)

I think everyone should stay in R1 till the credits are over

I suspect that Obi Wan would have been a bit more informed and seemingly more prepared than he was by the time R2 turned up on Tatooine if the crystal had come to him by Jyn.

I know, but I like to see a Ewan cameo :)

Anyway I think the crystal might be the one in Lukes green sabre

Thats reasonable. But if Luke is such a powerful Force user, then why didn't he just use the force to levitate Vader to the escape vehicle while he walked behind it? Seems that throughout ROTJ Luke forgets he can use the force.

Luke was barely force trained but managed to reach out to Leia while on the weather vane in ESB, but couldn't sense her on Endor after the speeder bike chase
