It does seem like the kind of place where Thrawn would spend his free time.

Course, I half expect the antiques Luthen sells are fakes (for one, given his rebel sympathies it would weird for him to sell off the cultural heritage of oppressed worlds to rich imperials. Plus, selling cheap knockoffs for high prices means all the more money he can put to the rebellion) and Thrawn would likely spot that...

I've seen a few people speculate the Kyber crystal Luthen gave Cassian wasn't blue but purple, am I seeing something different, and the crystal was purple, thus belonging to the lightsaber of a certain Jedi Master?

It is directly referred to in dialogue as "blue kyber."

That' what I thought... seems some people are looking desperately for something not there...

I wonder if Luthen Rael had a habit of putting the crystal in his mouth from time to time. Not like a pacifier, but maybe when he sits down to think about something he'll just put the tip on his lips like some people do with their glasses, or a pen. That could be why it's quite valuable to him, his muscle memory is having to adjust without it. [face_thinking]

I don't know that I have ever had the way I view a character change so much over about a 5 episode span, especially in the absence of a big dramatic reveal.

What relationship Luthen has with the jedi? There are jedi artifacts, possibly Plo Koon's mask, jedi temple guard mask and holocrons, maybe even lightsabers. Luthen seems old enough to remember the jedi too.

Luthien is a senior on Corucant. Probably mid 50's to 60 years old. Maybe he had some Jedi contacts like Quinlan Vos. He Probably already was some art collector.

I’m wondering this as well. He said the sky other was priceless to him. I’m thinking maybe he had a family member that was in the Order who died during Nightfall.

I dig the character do far. It's a very thin line he's crossing and I get it, running a Rebellion has its prices, but ordering to take out someone who completes your job is crazy. I wonder if this is just a hit put on by his assistant? Intrigued? I am, look forward to this playing out. I want him to meet with Saw and Mothma at the same time.

That would be interesting if we see Luthen has Jedi contacts and is preserving their artifiacts..."not for sale" to the highest bidders.

I had the same thought. She seems to have a decent amount of autonomy, and Luthen seemed to see a lot of potential in Cassian to just cast him aside so easily.

If word leaks out - and it will - that Luthen hires people for tough jobs and then has them killed, he's going to have a tough time hiring more people. He ought to be smarter than that.

I think it's obvious that Luthen didn't order Cassian to be killed but it was Kleya working on her own tying up loose ends.

What? In Star Wars fandom? Nonsense.

Luthen clearly didn’t order him to be killed, based on his dialogue in this episode. It looks like his partner did that on her own, in secret.

It does seem like Kleya is the one who put a hit on Cassian to tie up loose ends. She also cut off Ferrix. In some ways, she seems to be calling shots over Luthen. But I can see it working both ways. If word gets out hires get murdered in the end Luthen will likely still be the face of it. Luthen is the one Dedra is hunting. Luthen is the one who recruited Cassian, who worked with Bix, who met with Saw. That may be one reason why Luthen fails at uniting an organized Rebellion and Mothma will succeed by comparison.

Kleya definitely put the hit on Cassian without Luthen’s knowledge. This episode confirmed that.

I've been wondering if Luthen is a former Jedi. Hiding in plain sight as the owner of an artifacts dealer. At first I disregarded it...but now it's on my mind a lot.

Even his long green coat and hood is evocative of the Jedi robes.

And while everyone is searching his shop for Jedi and Sith artifacts, his shop windows look like blue kyber crystals themselves.

And although he seems like a very tough character, willing to do anything it takes to take down the bastards ... maybe that's just what a former no-longer Jedi, living and surviving in the Empire has come to.

I’m curious what your evidence for this is, because it was definitely something I was trying to deduce while watching and I was leaning towards the opposite conclusion, but as always I was watching with my dad and without subtitles, so there were bits and pieces of dialogue that I didn’t quite catch.

Watched it again, and it's a bit ambiguous...

Yeah. Well, I like how Luthen Rael is a true example of moral ambiguity. I'll have to watch this again. He sacrificed calm, happiness, love, and so on. It's stuff he would prefer. He's beyond tired of the Empire.

He's sacrificed his humanity but its hard to put that in words in Stars Wars when not everyone is human.

Yes. And since he seems expert on history (at least somewhat due to his cover story) he probably knows Empires have been really bad for the galaxy as whole. And is frustrated to see no one seems to have learned their lesson and are building a new empire already.

It's hard to say if he actually knows something about the sith even. Or just hates Empires and authoritarian regimes in general. He is very interesting character and morally ambiguous one as well.

I personally would like to see him as non-jedi, non-force-sensitive character who knows about the Force and the stories and sees the evil in the Empire as so great he is willing to do anything to fight it.

All timer monologue this week. Can't stop thinking about it. Just when you think you've heard your share of testimonials for why the Rebellion matters, Luthen puts his own perspective on sacrifice in the starkest, bleakest terms imaginable. "All or nothing" never felt so personal.

After the latest episode, I think Luthen knows Palpatine is a Sith Lord. An antiquities dealer, someone more familiar than most with the arcana of Galactic history, who went all in on rebellion the minute the Empire was declared? Yeah. He knows. I don't think he's a Jedi or anything though.
