Yeah, there's something ... connected there.

I'm not saying this show NEEDS a Jedi or Sith, it definitely doesn't...but...that angle could be interesting to see. What's a Jedi in hiding doing during this time? Are any in the rebellion at the start? What if there are other dark siders besides the Sith, who are out there looking to destroy the Sith Empire? Maybe Palpatine burned some bridges along the way? Maybe this guy just knows the real history and immediately started fighting Palps...

The stuff about Luthen sacrificing also sounds like someone who's gone to a very dark place. Dark side or not. Force or not. His outfit in this episode, looked very Sith-like. And his mask between Luthen the rebel and Luthen the Antiques Dealer is almost Palpatine-esque.

He's using the tools of his enemy to fight his enemy.

Like the Inquisitors, except they need to be more competent and less ridiculous.

    Saw could go Vader.

Gosh, Rael was intense. He said he sacrificed his decency for another sunrise.

    Maybe she's a Nightsister.

I'm just having fun here though. It's nice to theorize.

Will Luthen be killed in the finale? If so, who will do him in? I wonder if part of Luthen wants to die? If he wants to be put out of his misery? Maybe he'll off himself? It feels like Vel, or Cassian would have to be the one to kill him in order for it to be most impactful to the audience. Would it really be interesting if Luthen was killed by Dedra?

I just can't see how Luthen will survive when we know that Cassian will become a full-fledged member of the rebellion who works with Mon Mothma. I feel like by the time Rogue One rolls around Luthen is dead.

I wasn’t really onboard the “he’s a former Jedi” train. But admittedly that speech made me question just a bit more if maybe he is?

I want Luthen to survive at least to S2, either as friend or foil to Cassian.

I could imagine a final episode where his store is raided by stormtroopers, just moments after he gets out of dodge. His mask is now over. In fact, I kind of think a similar thing could happen to Mon, where she has to leave Coruscant forever.

Obvious observation but almost none of the good guys seem to like working with Luthen. Lonni, Mon Mothma, Vel, and Cassian, could some or all of them work together to make Luthen go away?

Lonni in particular might have the upper hand. Lonni knows that Anto Kreegyr is walking into a trap. Similarly, I suppose Lonni could know in the future when Luthen is walking into a trap and Lonni could choose not to warn him, hoping that Luthen dies so that he, (Lonni), can be free.

Only endings I see for this guy are either ending up as the first formalized Alliance spymaster, or killing himself to avoid capture by the ISB, honestly.

Based on some of Gilroy's interviews, it sounds to me like Luthen will initially be part of the Alliance's inner circle, but will eventually find himself on the outside looking in. I think that'll be contrasted with Saw Garrera, with whom the Rebels always seemed to have an uneasy partnership, and therefore was never considered part of their leadership.

Probably not a Sith, IMO, or even a darksider. But his psyche is comparable to that of a fallen or falling Jedi, clearly.

Or Lonni could engineer one for him. Steer Dedra and Partagaz in the right direction without compromising his own position.

I recently read someone else also make the comparison between Luthen and Palpatine, and it’s hard to ignore. I don’t think he’ll be secretly Jedi or Sith, but I do think as a character he works great as a parallel of Palpatine, only he’s trying to undo all that Palpatine built. And one of the cool things about that is that we essentially get a glimpse at how Palpatine as a character would be written if he were part of this show.

I don’t think he’s a Jedi. Would be cool if he was from Naboo and was maybe suspicious of Palpatine from the beginning.

    Interesting idea.

One thing is for certain, I'm very interested in Luthen's backstory. What an amazing character Andor has gifted Star Wars fans!

What a ride Luthen has - I would dare say he's got kyber crystals in it to be able to power those lightsaber-like blades (which makes sense as he gave Andor a kyber crystal for safe keeping). But not just any sort, ones that have been bled by the Sith.

Then when combined with all sorts of technology (some sort of power differential-thing, anti-tractor beam weaponry), his ride is an absolute beast. I didn't really rate Luthen as a major war-player, just more as a master creator and thinker and chess player. But with this episode, Luthen can take care of himself and is a force to be reckoned with.

Very impressive and it certainly alters his standing in my eyes positively. I really like him before, but I really, really like him now. Great character.

I think Luthen is more interesting if he is not force-sensitive. And definitely not jedi or sith. He is not really that evil or selfish like sith, he is however willing to go to great lengths to succeed. He does evil things to defeat evil. He is paradox in that way and yet he is also the most reasonable character there is. He is extreme in a weird way, he is actually so moderate that he is extreme in that. He doesn't care about political differences of rebels as long as they are against the Empire. He is calculating mastermind, but his main goal is respectable since Empire is real evil. He is one of my favorite characters in the show. Maybe one of my favorite SW characters ever.

I hope we are not revealed anything too radical of him. Him being jedi or I dunno Darth Maul's apprentice. That would ruin his character IMO. He is much more interesting as he is now. More revelation how he became like this would be interesting though. But major plot twists are not IMO needed. And could entirely ruin his interesting persona.

Way he is willing to sacrifice Kreegyr and his men is actually the way of the light side IMO. How jedi should act, learn to let go, serve the greater cause. Anakin went to dark side in his attempt to save people he cared about and dark side does that. Luthen is willing to let them go even if that pains him, since that is the better option than letting ISB to find out about him and his mole in high position. He cares about people like Lonni, but cannot let him go since he is needed to defeat the evil. For greater good. It really is paradoxical since that makes him seem rather intimidating and almost like he is the evil. But he has sacrificed his entire life for the rebellion too. So he is very strict and become what seems like very cold and emotionless, but he is not evil deep down for his own benefit and he also cares about people he has to sacrifice so he has emotions. Unlike sith, who seek to sacrifice others without caring about them for their own ego and cultivate only negative emotions to gain power. Compassion is seen as weakness while Luthen is compassionate person who seems to feel bad to calculate and sacrifice, but does that anyway since he believes he has to.

It's very interesting. Luthen is tragic hero in many ways. He is altruistic to the point where he no longer seems to care about anyone and no one can trust him. But they should since he is the most trustworthy ally there is against the Empire. He is committed to that goal. To defeat Palpatine whatever the cost.

He is not Sith or willingly Dark Side or any of that. In his greatest speech he flat out bemoans that part of his sacrifice is to use the weapons of his enemy to defeat his enemy. He doesn't want to be callous or apathetic or violent or sacrifice other people for his own ends.

Kleya seems that she may be willing to go even further than Luthen. I think she ordered that assassination of Andor on her own.
