I've no doubt Luthen will not survive the 2nd season but which episode will Luthen Rael die...

Early in the season to give the audience a sense of fear over the non-legacy characters? Mid season to may be give Andor the motivation to become the ruthless agent who'll kill his friends just as easily as his enemies for the cause? Or will it be at the end, the final fatality as Andor accepts his fate that he's already dead and it's just a matter of time?

One of the interesting things to remember and consider is that S2 is gonna cover 4 years. Gilroy said the season is going to be broken into multi-episode blocks each with a year time jump between them. So that's gonna affect the pacing and I'm very interested to see how they're gonna tell that story. As to when in the season Luthen is gonna go; I have no idea. Andor is kinda like GOT in that regard; I feel like anyone could go at anytime (with exceptions of course: Cassian, Mon, Saw etc.) I hope he makes it far into the season tho, just because he is such a great character.

My guess is that Luthen is going to organize a provocation on Ghorman that will result in a massacre he would not expect, and also it will allow ISB to finally find out his identity.

Not my favourite but I found his character arc to be far from predictable and the way it ends in S1 was very much satisfying.

Agreed. It showed he was adaptable in the moment, a quality needed in any Rebellion.

One of the best original characters since the Disney acquisition.

    Agreed.

Amusingly, I was quoting Luthen's monologue in the shower today. I said, "I've given up all chance at inner peace. I made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote fifteen years ago to which there's only one conclusion: I'm damned for what I do." And ThereseAnya1994 came into the bathroom to take her vitamins. After I said, "I'm damned for what I do," she was like, "What?" I had to explain who I was quoting, and she said, "Oh, him." I mean, there are times when I quote movies and shows in the shower. It's a good way to get one's mind active.

I will miss Luthen. (And his speeches. And everything else he does or says)

I can see Gilroy bucking expectations and keeping him alive. After all, if he works in the shadows for the Rebellion, who says he wasn’t around for the OT, working his insider magic, and staying away from the center of Alliance operations? Though I agree it’s more likely he dies in S2, I don’t think it’s a given.

You know that scene when Luthen finds out about the success of the heist at Aldhani? I'd love a coda to the show with such a scene where Luthen hears of the victory at Endor.
Maybe it could be on his death bed?
That would work thematically with his speech, where he says something along the lines of there not being a place for him once the revolution has succeeded.

It wouldn't be difficult at all to write him into some offscreen OT happenings, like the theft of the DS2 info, or the shuttle Tydirium.

The rebellion needed to be funded by more than just Mon Mothma, so you can certainly have Luthen working in the shadows as the rebellion grows.

Or, he's actually Plapy's clone, and all of those "Plapy is a clone" theorists were right all along.

Probably. But it would be more interesting and surprising if he did... and then turns himself over to the New Republic for the crimes he committed in the name of the Rebellion, and questions some of his own decisions.

Yeah I've been thinking Luthen is going to be captured by the ISB and perhaps executed by them, or maybe by Cassian as you suggested. It would definitely fit the darker tone of the series; no going out in a blaze of glory trope for him I hope. (For the record, I absolutely love the character, but I think killing him off in S2 is the way to go and to have it be done by the ruthless ISB would be fitting.)

Rewatched Dune and Dune: Part Two recently, great films, although still missing a lot of great moments from the novel. And it occurred to me that Luthen and Kleya's relationship is more alike Baron and Piter de Vries' dynamic in the novel that one between them in the first film (where Piter is not even named).

okm my take on Luthan (a favorite of mine):

Luthan is a Career spy. he's been a spy all his life, I dig the Separatist link, that could explain why he had a shop on Coruscant, he used to it spy on the Republic leading up to and during the Clone Wars. He could grab info from the high and mighty, including senators, who would not suspect a trader.

I bet he figured out that Plaps was working both sides to kill the Jedi and take over. even as a separatist, he could have befriended many Jedi, used info against them, but not hated them as beings. maybe some were true friends.
When the Empire was declared, and the Droid armies turned off, Luthan sat, unemployed and waited. he saw the rebellion coming, and saw a chance to "avenge" the loss of the Clone Wars by assisting the Rebellion.

Luthan was in charge of the Shop and financing things, with Mothma being the money person till the Empire cracked down on her money. That is why he put the Bank job together, Kleya would be his First officer, his Number one, to keep him focused. That is why she seems to have so much authority. And she is able to speak for him. Luthan definately put the hit on Cassian, when and only when Cassian left. Luthan had used his ship, something he used in both his cover as a dealer and a the spymaster, and it connected him to the death of Corpo Security, if Cassian was captured. Luthan had to protect the Movement, even if he didn't like it. This is also why he didn't want to close the channel to Ferrix. He still wanted Cassian to work for him. Still felt that Cassian had more to give to the cause, which we know will be so very true.

I, personally don't like the Jedi theories, but I will completely admit to not being a fan of Jedis or Sith and like to keep them out of this. 90% of the Rebellion did not include the Force. Even with Ahsoka and Luke, and possibly Cal Kestis and other survivors helping.

As for the Fondor, I do think it may be powered or augmented by Kyber Crystals, but the weapons do have "real world" (in that GFFA) explanations, the Tractor beam weapon is just a chaff dispenser, that used the Tractor beam itself to accelerate the particles. And the side beams are similar to the plasma beams used to chop up the ships. seen in Jedi Fallen Order, and Mandalorian, when Miggs is in prison. the power is just supped up into overdrive. This is also alluted to when Cassian says Luthan's Fondor accerated better than any Fondor Cassian has been on. (thus, the possible Kyber connection) Jedha still exists now,a nd we don't know much about Kybers powering things other than Lightsabers. so it's unknown how they would work on the Fondor.

I can't wait for more Luthan, and I really hope he survives the Series, and wish would follow his story after. but I'm not sure what his fate will be.

Season 2 will be an adventure.

I’m not a big fan of giving Rebels, who wish to restore the Republic, a Separatist past, given that the Separatists despised the Republic and tried to exit it. It just feels a little lazy. A sort of “well they rebelled before so they’re rebelling again.”
