I liked Signs, but I did have to go with the argument of "Why would such an intelligent species invade a planet that was 2/3s water when they're allergic to it?"

Just seemed a bit odd to me, and had some mixed messages. So there is a God and everything happens for a reason and humanity is being looked after by an omnipotent force but he also created aliens to come and invade us anyway?

I very much enjoyed sighns. I thought it was a brilliant alien movie.

What I thought was exceptionally brilliant was the fact that aliens who can be killed by water decided to land on a planet that's 80% water.

I like his movies. A very creative guy.

I agree with ^^^^ about why make an aliens species invade Earth if they are allergic to water.....but then again thats when reading into a movie too much makes you miss the point of his style of a Scary Movie, which is how and what happens when strange and unusual things happen to regular people. AT least thats how I see it ;)

The thing I liked about Signs is, unlike most alien movies, the main characters didn't "save the universe" or have some major effect on the outcome, making it more "realistic", so to speak.

I think it's safe to say Night is the closest there is to a modern-day Hitchcock.

EDIT: My 6,300th post. Yay, I guess.

well you have to ask yourself al ot of things. Why would anyone want to settle in Las Vegas were the temp is 120 in the summer. Or in Alaska were ist cold. People do silly things i don't think that we should keep aliens out of the stupid person loop. But yeah....it is kinda funny.

I really liked unbreakable. I think that anytime Sam Jackson is on the screen its going to be a good movie.

Never thought about the 80% water thing, now that I think of it those aliens were not so advanced after all. I still like Signs though.

I will have to disagree with that. He´s not like Spielberg.

i thinks hes a great film maker. He wrote and directed all the movies that he made. He also acts as a small role in all his movies which is kinda cool.

I really enjoyed The Sixth Sense and Signs. Unbreakable didn't do much for me. I'm looking forward to The Village

Mastadge, I'm curious to know your opinions regarding Spileberg and Shyamalan in greater detail. Would you mind expanding a bit?

    :)

Will this thread have a shocking and yet completely obvious twist at the end?

EDIT: And if this thread has a twist ending, then why doesn't every thread?

i have to admit to that Night is one of my favorite directors. I enjoy all his movies. I admit that they are not the best movies ever but they do the job for me.

The Village looks a little creepy. I can't wait to go check that out. I like the writing and the dialouge in the movie. Its natural and always seems to be right on. The stories are good becuase they are homely. There is fantastic things going on within someones everyday life.

the aliens weren't Allergic, Water was toxic for them. there is the chance that they had never incountered water. it's just like other planets with no air for us, except if we didn't know that other planets didn't have air. if scientist came across a complety alien plant, and everything about it was strange, then they would probably have no idea if it were toxic or not.

In reference to the Aliens in Signs, why would we travel to the Moon or Mars when we aren't capable of breathing there?

    Same theory.

Also, in his newest movie The Village, I am curious how he will have a cameo this time around when it is set during 18th Century Pennslyvania. Not many East Indian residents in those parts at that time...

    THE.

EDIT--EmpireForever conveyed the same thought as I. He beat me to it.

Water was not exactly toxic, most sure it was like acid for them. Isn´t oxhydric acid another name for water? Of course acids are toxic, but they melt flesh away so fast that you don´t get the chance to get intoxicated.

I´m eager to see The Village....those trailers looked creepy enough. And Ubnreakable was a little too slow for me, of course it has a good story but was simply boring, besides I´m not a big fan of Bruce Willis.

The water thing in Signs is just very poor planning by the aliens IMO. If you want to take over a planet... you do your research.

    [face_laugh] at Everton.

and to Morella, i meant toxic as in something like nuclear waste wich happens to be toxic, but it would melt you before you could be "intoxicated."

In Signs, if you're focusing on the alien's motives for invading, then you're dwelling on the wrong thing.

Like Roger Ebert said, "The film is as much about aliens as Chaging Lanes is about changing traffic lanes."

The movie is about the guy's spritual revival. The aliens just served as a tool. The title Signs is double meaning.

I also think it had the most powerful ending out of all his films. With everything being tied up as a "sign." The water, the asthma, "swing away," etc.

He very much reminds me of Speilberg. His movies remind me of JAWS and Poltergeist. Though Shyamalan is a little more one-note than Speilberg. I wonder if he'll ever do a film that's not a supernatural suspense thriller.
