Just ask for all your gifts to be Star Wars related for the past ten years and you’ll never have to pay for a book again. :p

Years ago I would be wanting as much as possible but less time to read these days makes it fine by me. Also I used to only read SW haha but since about 2013/14 ish the canon switch sort of encouraged me to expand my horizons to other IPs, and "proper" science fiction/fiction in general as well.

Warhammer is great for someone who wants a lot of volume as they release about 3 full length books a month between 40K and the fantasy setting, and while there will always be an occasional lower quality offering the standard of writing is very high in general. Less said about their business practices and release scheduling the better though. Not exactly fan-friendly

Warhammer seeks to enslave Dan Abnett exclusively but he writes too fast.

This part of the book summary intrigued me:

"As a young Jedi, Qui-Gon protected the Sa’ad farming clan from the planet’s less scrupulous factions. The Sa’ad practice the art of dream-weaving, retaining their waking minds upon sleep in order to communicate and coexist with the wild creatures around them."

I wonder if this had some sort of influence on Qui-Gon's quest to learn how to communicate through the Force beyond his death.

It's almost certainly an intentional reference to that achievement at very least.

Unfortunately, this has been pushed back two months to October 15. Hopefully just some extra time for refinement.

I don't mind the delay. I hate when you get 2 standalone novels in a year and they release three months apart from each other. It's like Marvel movies releasing in November, then February, then May, then nothing again until November. Just space em out equally so there are less huge gaps between releases. I'm sure there's some marketing nonsense to justify the release dates, but [face_tired]

Well, at least they announced it early, long before the SpeedyHen pre-order goes active.

Out in 2 weeks! Mixed review from SWE. He wasn't really into it, but acknowledged it did cool things that others might be into.

On one hand, I liked Cestus Deception, on the other hand, Mace is my least favourite prequel Master, and on the other hand, I loved Shatterpoint, and on the other hand, I cheered when Anakin cut off his hand.

Read it (our Forbidden Planet released it early).

Was good. Some Legends references - to Mace Windu and Sora Bulq creating Vaapad together (as a spin-off of Juyo). T'ra Saa is also mentioned as one of Mace's tutors.

I really miss Sora Bulq as a character. I miss the idea that Dooku had a mini army of Acoyites and many were Jedi disillusioned with the war

Skimmed the first couple chapters this morning before work.
Liked Mace philosophizing about the risk associated with Jedi taking political power, reminded me of the Legends series of Jed-Chancellors during the New Sith War.
Qui-gon's funeral was significantly expanded including Obi-Wan giving a eulegy.
Mace's departure and the skip to Coruscant confuses me, it says he's going to "his ship" and next we see him landing on Coruscant which skips over the Celebration after the funeral, and implies Mace may have arrived separately which wasn't the intention of the film (Allowing for the reality that they may have picked a rather poor body double to take Sam Jacksons place when there was a scheduling conflict so he couldn't film the scene with Palpatine and the other Jedi arriving on the same ship.

For what its worth I do love the description of the Jedi Temple.

The book was very good, and the best part by far was its worldbuilding. The Glass Abyss is really a fascinating place. I hope that someday we will see a faithful visualization of it, whether in concept art, live-action, or animation. There were also so many great characters, both allies and adversaries.
Barnes' portrayal of Mace was very interesting, but it didn't quite align with what we know of him in Episodes 2 and 3. In the book, his adventure supposedly brought about a significant change in his character, but it is not something we could notice in the films or in the Clone Wars series.

And, please, can we dispense with the unwritten rule of the new canon (especially amplified in the HR books) that every single Jedi must have some sex in order for their lives to be fulfilled? Who is next in line? Yoda? I still prefer to think of Jedi as warrior monks who easily resist sexual passions in favor of love for all living things.

All jedi must past the trials of certain urges, i am sure Yoda had one with a tall alien in his youth.
