I wanted to get into the Witcher, but I got into this circular dilemma where I wasn't sure if I should start with the books, the show, or the games first. I guess there are pros and cons to starting with each. So I still haven't started. Any recommendations? Sounds like the show was... good? Partly good? Less aggrivating than the season finale of GoT?

Nah, the show is half-baked. Cavill as Geralt is good, but most of the rest is bad. Everyone I know who likes the games or the books hates the show. As someone who's experienced neither I still find the show messy.

I’d read a couple of the short stories and played one of the games, so I had some understanding of the world going into it.

I’m mixed on it personally. It’s a good production, and there are some very good episodes but I found the show to be largely uneven. Come season 3 I was mostly watching it kill time. And for Lars Mikkelsen, who has traded up in otherworldly tv series…

Random thought, but has anyone out there ever seen a good online playthrough of X-Wing/TIE Fighter?

If you find yourself bored, get a Tamagotchi and name it "EU", now try to keep it alive... Curious how you fare and how long you will last!

Looks like Dark Forces is getting a remaster.

(And I just got the Black Series Dark Trooper figure too. Crazy how that works).

I had the bright idea of trying to make a database of all onscreen appearances of all the aliens in Star Wars. This was going good until I realized that I would have to write out every...single...Clone Wars episode multiple times.

Don't be like me. Life is too short to squander it.

In all fairness, I think in most episodes it would the same few background alien models the whole time.

Ooh but I'd love a database like this... if only to provide evidence for my pet theory that there was a massive exodus of Ithorians to Coruscant at some point prior to TCW, probably as the result of the radical conservationist faction on Ithor driving everyone else away. ("You're going to turn our planet into a nature reserve? No thanks, I'm going to find the biggest city in the galaxy to relocate to...")

I've had to restart it several times due to poor strategies for organization. So...it might be a hot minute unfortunately. XD

    Interesting theory though.

I continually see stuff where people lament not seeing a "full power," "badass" great warrior Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy and I have to say, I don't think such people really get what Star Wars is about.

I mean, George wasn't terribly clear about his vision for the Jedi Knights in ANH, but it's exceedingly clear in ESB when Yoda says "wars not make one great" and "adventure. Excitement. A Jedi craves not these things" and "a Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." And especially in ROTJ when. Luke throws aside his lightsaber after badassededly beating Vader down and nearly turning to the dark side.

Luke Skywalker, a Jedi like his father before him, is not supposed to be a badass great warrior. He's supposed to be a keeper of the peace, a negotiator that avoids aggressive negotiations. He's not supposed to unleash "full power" because power isn't the point.

If Luke Skywalker were in the world between worlds and was granted a vision of 2 possible futures, Future A: the Expanded Universe where he has a niece, nephews, wife and son, lots of Jedi but decades of nonstop warfare, and members of his Jedi Council fighting each other to the death VS Future B: the sequel trilogy where the galaxy sees 2 decades of peace and the next major crisis/war is shortlived even if he and his entire family dies out after his nephew turns dark and is redeemed.... he chooses the ST. Because he is a Jedi, he is trained to be selfless and to do the most good for the most people. He does not choose the future where he has more personally at the cost of so much bloodshed. Whichever he chooses, a nephew turns to the dark side and kills loved ones. Only in one of those to the most people have peace and an absence of galactic scale warfare for the most time.

To me, these people are just annoying because they drown the opinions which are legitimate critiques of TLJ.

I have to agree that that's a big part of my annoyance with them. I remember when TLJ came out and I had a classmate who was complaining that they got hyperspace wrong. And I was flabbergasted that of all the legit critiques you could have of that movie (a stretched out B-Plot, being overtly preachy, arguably dissonance with TFA, etc.) he chose to criticize the fictional mechanics of a plot device that's always been inconsistent.

    Media literacy is dead.
