The first one and the last one were pretty good. Well, obviously they're hamstrung by being SW and bad, but aside from that, they're sort of good.

 

So - now that's it's done - was there any point to the sequel trilogy?

 

No.

 

Yes, the point was to make as much $$$ off of nostalgic moviegoers, as fast as possible!

 

Luckily we got everyone involved in an interview to get that one sorted out:

 

This is the perfect encapsulation of the end of the Sequel Trilogy.

In no way did it need to be made.

In no way can it stand on its own and be considered "good", "funny", or "worthwhile".

It succeeds in hearkening back to the moments of the original that we love the most.

And we still watch it.

No need to limit it to the ST. All SW movies since the originals have been expendable, superfluous, & any of those other terms that mean similar. The only thing that virtually all fans agree on is that the OT is great. Every saga film since has been hated by a good portion of the fanbase.

 

Absolutely and utterly false. Many fans hated ROTJ back in the day, and hated the Ewoks in particular.

 

Wasn’t referring to back in any day. I’m talking about now. The originals, taken as a whole is liked by all despite some flaws. The other two trilogies are completely divisive. This isn’t a newsflash.

 

me and all my friends loved return of the jedi, and thought the ewoks were awesome. of course, we were 8. thankfully, there was no internet to tell us how wrong we were.

Back in the day, I didn't know anybody who hated RotJ. Some of the kids who were too-cool-for-school thought Ewoks were lame, but the rest of the movie rocked.

 

The upshot is what we’re left with is the OT for everyone. The rest is a case of choose your own adventure. Many will just re-watch the originals. A lot of people ignore the prequels & some now are dismissive of the sequels. It’ll be a 3, 6 or 9 episode main saga for fans, with the OT being the only constants.

Nah, there was an Unauthorized Guide to Star Wars book that was sold nationwide in all the major bookstores and I always flipped through it and read bits at Barnes and Noble, and it had an entire section called “50 Reasons Return of the Jedi Sucks” and this was like, 1995. For enough people back then, even the OT was not a constant.
