Houses to the north and the south, it seems less likely to drop down into San Fernando just as San Fernando valley had a fire on the north side this year already. However, it could well descend into Santa Clarita. Its currently just a little bit east of where the fires tend to travel when they go between porter ranch/simi valley and Santa Clarita.

I'll bet homeowner insurance for fires in California is expensive. Christopher Lloyd lost his home, and it cost 11 million dollars. That's gonna cost a lot to replace.

The smokey-ness in LA is gaky, yak yak right now. I need a gas mask.

My CO for the SoCal Rebel Legion base lost his house in Yorba Linda. The fire came too quickly for them to pack for evacuation, so they lost everything, including all of his Rebel Legion and 501st costumes. :(

:( That's terrible. That fire got really bad really quickly. I could see it burning on my way home from Pasadena, which is pretty far north. I heard on the radio it had jumped the 91. That whole area is pretty densely populated. I hope everyone was able to make it out safely.

Ah. Well, I'm sure it's a little more contained (or that the winds have died down), but it doesn't smell as bad outside this morning as it did yesterday.

Yikes, I didn't have internet yesterday so I didn't know about how far into Orange County this thing had burned [face_worried] I hope everyone who needs to evacuate can do so safely. And in Sylmar, too, I have friends up that way though not sure exactly how close they are to it. But I'm sure it's awful smokey and ashy there. And my brother lives in Costa Mesa so right now that's pretty far south and out of the way of the Triangle Complex.

I have been in Montecito and LA for nearby fires (Zacca, Malibu) but the most I had to deal with was orange sky and ashes. It's crazy that this is all happening now when I'm so far away...

Well, the skies are blue again. I can still see the smoke plumes from Brea and YL, but if I look up I don't see a wall of black, and that's good.

Apparently the fire's still 0% contained and the count is now well over 100 homes destroyed, but the fire is slowing down its westward progress because of fire-retardant construction on most homes. I feel really bad that these guys lost their homes basically as buffers for the rest of us though. That's really awful to think about.

The fire may shoot northward though--apparently the canyons in Brea and YL are filled with dry tinder that hasn't burned in near 80 years, so it's like giftwrapped fuel for a fire. If that happens, it'd start crossing county lines into LA.

Does anyone know if Chino is on fire? I heard something on the radio about there being freeway closures in that area but nothing about where the actual fires are. I have no TV so I can't watch the news.

I had a research paper due Tuesday and my professor moved the due date to Thursday.

I'm pretty close to finishing anyway, but still... [face_dancing] Yay fire!

If Chino is the same as Chino Hills, then yeah, there's a fire in that area, roughly, i thought. Southwest of it.

Word is my work in Chino Hills is not on fire. For now at least. And Chino Hills s pretty small, so I say Chino instead. I woke up this morning and I had 4 missed calls from my mother panicking because she thought I was on fire. Despite the fact that she knows where I live she always assumes every fire in socal has killed me.

How are things going right now? I feel really out of the loop and have been traveling around without internet this week...

I did learn from our school that 10 young adults accidentally started the Montecito fire, but that investigators had confirmed none of them were from our school... so probably SBCC or UCSB [face_plain]

EDIT: Turns out it was SBCC, according to a press release from them yesterday. Hey thanks guys, so would you like to rebuild our school and faculty homes? :)

I think they're all or almost all contained. The totals for OC are approx 120 homes and around 160 million in damage. It could have been a lot worse, especially with how quickly it came up.

I'm hearing that for Yorba Linda, I think.... there's now some questions about how the water board was running things. Issues with water available.
