I don't really know why i'm telling you this, its not funny but it did make me smile.

Anyway as you may or may not know I work part time in a pub and on a particularly boring night I was asked for a table by a stereotypical Christian/American (just helping build the picture, he was the sandle and socks wearing type about 26?). Anyway it was obviously one of those buisness type meals so naturally they had copious amounts of Old Speckled Hen. Now eventually it came to pudding time and what we do is take a board overe prop it on a chair and let them choose, he aksed me about treacle pudding, which naturally I recommended as English blissfull stodge. He replied in such a way I had a smile on my face for the rest of the night. He said... 'As Jean-Luc Picard would say, make it so'

Now i'm sure you would agree that this isn't that funny but for me it was a nit more than that, this man was unashamedly being a geek in public (Even if it was Star Trek *grumble*) and I salute you sir. Thankyou.

I hide my geekdom and I won't anymore.

I regularly do the old Alec Guinness 'You must do what you feel is right of course' with the rolled R's and the essential middle england accent.

Good stuff. Funny thing is, i've never considered Star Wars an overly geeky thing, maybe this makes an uber geek? I don't know. Most people I know will put up with any Star Wars related geekness but not Star trek.

    P.S. I loathe the insert/overwrite button.

Okay, as one of the resident Trek fans -- yeah, go ahead, bash me if you will, I find that doing that sort of thing is a little annoying...not geeky so much, but I think that you should keep that thing to yourself, unless you're within specific company. But there is a flip side to this sort of thing, and to which I say quite a lot: "I don't what is more disturbing...the fact that you quoted Star Wars/Star Trek, or the fact, I know exactly where that came from..." - So, IMO, you're as equally guity of being geeky, although you have the advantage of not showing your geekiness.

I've been guilty of doing the quote thing, myself, so I suppose I'm being a little bit of a hippocrit, but at least when I do a quote, it's something that no one is going to know what I'm referring to, anyway.

For one example, I remember doing it at work last year to a woman who worked in our Manchester branch, and we were talking about how the bosses of our company used to treat us like ****. I quoted a rule of accuisition, although I didn't say to her that it was, which was, "Employees are like the rungs on the ladder of success...don't hesitate to step on them!" -- Which is a true and fair statement. She laughed at it, but I bet she wouldn't have laughed if I told her where that quote was from.

And I can do some fairly decent impressions of characters, so I have been known to quote a line from the films, but only around people who I know would get it, and find it funny...or during certain situations, like when I'm drunk, I'll do Yoda, like "Throw up I will, yes..." :p

There is also another example from this week. One of the printers in our office was making a high-pitched squeeking/pulsing noise...the exact same noise as those trackers in Aliens...and I said that to the guy sitting nearest to the printer, because he was the kind of guy who you just know what you were talking about...but after about 5 minutes, he started sending me emails with quote from Aliens -- but I was sending them back with quotes...but at least we both knew enough not to say them out loud!

The other classic is while I'm at work and things go just that little bit too quiet and I'll normally pipe up with (drum solo)...'Anyhting could happen in the next half hour'.

    Foe those that don't remember it's from Gerry Anderson's Stingray . . . . . ask yer Dad he'll know what I mean.

Did he pull his top down while saying it? I heard Patrick Stewart did that once in theatre and the whole audience erupted into applause.
