Mango Mando with bright mango-colored armor is now necessary. Make it happen, Favreau!

A more interesting turn, in my opinion, for the main character and his tribe is if the Mandalorian society actually is largely intact *back on Mandalore*... but that numerous tribes, clans, and houses have been forced into exile, possibly because they were backing the Empire and the Imperial Suprecommando hierarchy.

And, since our main protagonist’s flashbacks don’t show any helmets or signs of Mandalorian armor among his people... maybe he really is a fully adopted foundling from a non-Mandalorian family.

So... he’d be an example of a faithful Mandalorian with immigrant patriotism towards his tribe, but his tribe would have a perhaps less than laudable history that maybe even caused its own exile.

I really do think the Great Purge maybe goes with this theory because of its context:
Given the Beskar has an Imperial mark on it, and the somewhat obvious allusions to Nazi Gold, I’m thinking that the Great Pruge discussed here has to be a OT-era story, and if the Mandalorian blacksmith/elder’s horned helmet really does tie into Maul’s Shadow Collectibe, maybe the hypothetical civil war that Rebels seemed to be setting up led to the kind of chaos that would see a bunch of hardcore warmonger clans and tribes (the kind likely to have a thing about not taking off their helmets and to back the Death Watch) get pushed out.

...I’ll be honest, I’d love to see them really embrace some major diversity in political and cultural viewpoints for the Mandos; bring in New Mandalorian pacifists, elitist aristocrats from Houses, nomadic tribes, and professional PMC-type mercenary companies.

I agree @godisawesome I was hoping these were remnants of the mail faction that ended up backing the empire after maul.

It'd be cool if the Heavy Infantry Mando was from a PMC.

I’d *love* to see Mandalorian factions that are sendup to every type of warrior culture - a stoic melee specialist like a Samurai, a furious berserker like a Viking, a knife nut survivalist like Rambo (as a counterpart to the Arnie-style PMC type:D), all to contrast and match our main guy’s gunslinger vibe.

Ken Napzok and Joseph Scrimshaw had an interesting theory about the Mandalorian's in general. Joseph in particular speculates that the Empire may have wiped out Mandalore possibly or at least the factions that were against the Empire.

Definitely possible after the death of Gar Saxon and the ensuing civil war. Perhaps Mandalore was Base Delta Zero'd by the Empire as a reprisal.

The Blacksmith did mention a purge, so something vile took place prior.

Mandalore the Planet kind of Base Delta .0005'ed itself so that wouldn't take much work, although lots of clans based on other planets to mop up. I get the feeling this is kind of what has happened, though. Bar thug certainly seemed to have a contempt for Mandos that I don't feel like we've had before so maybe they're seen as galactic has-beens by some now.

That said, Bar Thug is a complete idiot for picking a fight with a dude who's clearly a walking arsenal, regardless of how BDZ'ed the guy's homeworld is. But Bar Thugs gonna Bar Thug, I guess.

They're a throwback to the Pre-Disney nomadic Mandalorians, right down to their dispersed nature and the fact that they adopt battlefield orphans similar to Jango in Open Seasons or any of the conquered people from KOTOR 2.

We don’t exactly know what a foundling is. It is either an orphaned Mandalorian or an orphaned child in general.

I miss my Mango Fett gif...the horrors of changing computers over the years.

I took it as a foundling being an orphaned child (brought into the tribe/clan) in general, but I can also see where it might be an orphaned Mandalorian regarding the mentioned purge and an attempt to rebuild. Something obviously happened, if just for the fact that the Empire at some point got their hands on a significant amount of that Beskar steel which I doubt the Mandalorians would've just handed over considering its cultural significance to them. It'll be interesting to see how they go further into both topics later in future episodes.

The fact that Paz Vizsla is part of this Mandalorian enclave makes me even more confident that these Mandos are the remnants of Maul's faction.
