Hmmm, I can't hear Mara with a British accent. Somehow, I don't hear one at all when I read her... or perhaps, it's a matter of being so versatile she can do whatever is necessary. I would imagine Palps gave her the very best of education, so imagine her speaking very properly and formally.

 

I think the best Mara voice (well, maybe the only Mara voice) was done in the ROTJ Radio Drama. "Arica" was voiced by Samantha Bennett.

Or the woman who voiced Megara in Disney's Hercules is pretty good, too.


British accent? Well, we don't know her original planet origin so I guess if Coruscantians are supposed to have British accents, that's canon?

 

Susan Egan. I could see her as a possible voice for Mara. Meg and Mara definitely have the same sort of attitude.

Yeah. I can just see the sarcasm dripping from Mara's voice like that. Susan Egan has a lovely singing voice as well, IIRC.

In any case, as I said in the MJS Fan Club thread, I think Mara would have one of those neutral actors accents that could place her just about anywhere. Then she when is on a mission she might shift it towards what she needs to maintain her cover.

The second and third links are (very different) photos of someone who seems to be the same actress - the other *official* Mara Jade, the one who isn't wearing a dead westie spraypainted purple on her head...

In one of those, at least, she looks... Maraesque?

I'm having the hardest time getting through I, Jedi. I may just give up and skip on over to Survivor's Quest unless there's any insight into Mara or Luke people think I may miss.

I?m guessing Samantha Bennett voiced Mara? I?m asking - I don?t know. I?ve only heard a short snippet of the ROTJ radio drama and it was the god-awful Palpy-frying-Luke-getting-tossed-by-Vader scene. ?My Son!!? UGH! My ears are still bleeding!


Leona: You won?t miss much in I, Jedi as far as Mara is concerned. She?s cool when she?s in it, but it?s only briefly. SQ, however? the L/M-ness ROCKS, just don?t expect much in the way of romance. I love Zahn, but he needs to collab with Tyers for the mushy stuff. (Anybody else here read her Firebird Trilogy? )

 

Cool. I just need to read more on the character. I can always work on mushiness or other stuff once I have a good handle on them. LOL

Kellilla, is in my FanForce and does not use the pink cape in her costume. (Thank you, Kell! )

I'm inclined to agree. I think I've even used the "no discernible accent" line in a fanfic, LOL!

I, Jedi was an exciting read (for me) in a way because it hints, albeit very small of Luke and Mara's developing caring/interests for one another. Even though (of course) they don't realize or care to admit it. I'm just reading Survivor's Quest now. I'm loving it...but wish there could be more mush. They're finally married!!! Where's the love?

Couldn't agree more with you, Trace. I did read the Firebird Trilogy. Absolutely loved it! Wish Tyers would continue on with it. Zahn could surely get some pointers from her. It's disappointing to read in Survivor's Quest that the only contact Luke and Mara have (so far) is snuggling. Is it too much to ask for a kiss here or there? lol Do they kiss at least once?

Yes, there is kissing in SW...even Uncle George approves.

My guess is, th pink cape is a consession to her more 'feminine' side. The all black outfit shows she can kick butt better than almost anyone, but the pink cape shows that she's a lady, too.

Or maybe not.

 

A cape is not very conspicuous, is it though?

As for that pink cape, it seems off. Mara would never where something so girlish. I don't want to offend anyone but I'm sick and tired of all this pink. Every girl has to wear pink as if it were the only color in the spectrum.

I hear you, Jadie. There isn't a pink item of clothing in my wardrobe. Much too girlie. I was just saying that every time I go out I'm assaulted by pink clothes and it's driving me crazy.

 

I wore pink today actually... for some reason my coloring is perfect for it... that and maroon...
