that's actually not accurate anymore since with the comics/books Luke isn't a full noob nor does he have little training when facing Vader in V.

Very little trainIing by YODA is probably more meaningful than alot by someone esle.

Because he's Harrison Ford. JJ, KK and Kasdan love Ford and the character of Han Solo.

I think the duel will not disappoint (yes, even without Luke). My favorite duel in the entire saga is the one in ESB. And that ends with an unusual exit strategy being taken by Luke. If one didn't know about the 'father reveal' this may not have seemed all that satisfying on paper. Similarly, there are almost certainly details about the TFA duel that will heighten its emotional impact that we aren't privy to.

But I am very sympathetic to some folks' desire to see Luke face off with Kylo. I sometimes find myself wishing for that, too. But I honestly believe the direction they seem to have gone in will be satisfying.

Do we know Luke isn't in it much for sure?

Maybe he is in Episode 8 a lot more, and that will make it up to Luke fans?

Since he popped up in the filming for Episode 8, at least we know he doesn't die in TFA. And he lost the beard. Maybe that means he becomes less of a hermit in Episode 8.

No offence but all this Yoda 2.0 gibberish means nothing to me. I have faith that Luke will be much more active than Yoda was in the OT. Unless of course you mean Yoda from the PT. Luke might be more like that and that will be good with me. Yoda is bad ass and had two epic duels in the PT. So, PT Yoda okay. OT Yoda I don't see happening to Luke. If I'm wrong I'll express my disappointment at that time. As of now I see no reason for all the doom saying and complaining.

but you forgot that we saw in ESB Luke having some training before he did the duel, he did not duel Vader in ANH, after he just got the saber. That's a big problem in my opinion and would tell us that a force sensitive doesn't need any training to do such things. So Luke is not necessary at all, they can figure it out without help. I'd also like to remind those that are putting all their faith in call sheets that some of those sheets can either be fake or changed depending on scenes that are actually shot.

TFA, in these modern times, has been IMO the most safely guarded film of all time in terms of the story, etc.

And as we know, Star Wars has traditionally been like that since the OT. Take for example the Vader unmasking scene in ROTJ - was very secretive to the point that dialogue was changed on set to reflect what was actually shot.

I believe with all the background Luke has, he will never be a Yoda 2.0.

He is going t be much greater.

True, but the general impression for casual fans who only know what they see in the films would be that Luke gets some unknown amount of training under Yoda and it can't be too long (a month at most) since Han and Leia are on the run from the Empire the whole time that's happening too.

However, with Luke being more prepared against Vader during their fight on Bespin in mind, let's also remember that Rey's a survivor. She hasn't actively been training with the Force since she was a child, it seems, but she has apparently been actively using its abilities throughout her whole life on Jakku to help her survive. Also consider that since she arms herself with that staff, chances are pretty high that she's had plenty of close encounter fights with it in the past. Moreover, she also appears to be innately stronger with the Force than Kylo is (who is probably more properly trained), since she overrides whatever the hell he's doing to her with the Force during their interrogation scene.

Is that enough for her to beat Kylo Ren? Of course not, but it's probably enough to help her hold her own against Kylo before the area falls apart and she and Finn are rescued by Chewie.

Not to mention that Vader was going easy on Luke in that fight. He knew Luke was his son.

still think the whole crumbling mountain is pretty meh way to end the dual, would rather see Chewie saving them/being the cause of the collapse than that.:p

Maybe Luke fights Snoke. Could make for some great drama if Snoke is responsible for the raid on Luke's academy/former home/family.

    Let's see.
    Yoda
-leader of an order that got wiped out.
-lives alone in exile for a long time
-waits there until his new student shows up
    -no wife or kids
-no screentime in 1st movie of trilogy

    MSW rumored Luke
-leader of an order that got wiped out
-lives alone in exile for a long time
-waits there until his new student shows up
    -no wife or kids
-seconds of screentime in 1st movie of trilogy

Looks like Yoda 2.0 to me

According to MSW Luke apparently doesn't talk in VII and we don't know what creatures inhabit the island

Maybe not crazy, but his mind may be in a state of darkness if Snoke wiped out his friends and family. Is it Luke in the above pic? So far we've heard nothing of Rey meeting Snoke...

On just a side note, I adore Yoda as a character because the guy failed so spectacularly. Everything went to crap on his watch and even afterwards he still couldn't get his padawan to listen to him.
