I'm starting to think the shot of Luke and Artoo from teaser two might actually be the aftermath of the village massacre, rather than flashback Luke.

But Luke isn't on Jakku...why would he be?

No idea. It's just a possibility I'm willing to entertain. I can't claim to know one way or the other, since I haven't read the script. Just keeping an open mind because I'm not inclined to fully accept MSW's outline as complete gospel until I see the film.

One idea that popped into my head, though, was what if Luke is actually not that far away from the action during the film as we've been lead to believe. What if there is this mysterious black-hooded figure following our heroes throughout the story, one step behind them, not quite ready to reveal himself.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

MSW never claimed that Luke "doesn't talk" in TFA. They simply don't have any materials revealing his dialogue. So he might speak. Or he might not. And MSW never took a position on either side of that.

How does anyone know just where Luke has been? Just because Mark Hamill wasn't in Abu Dhabi doesn't mean he's not filmed a scene or scenes on the Jakku desert set at Pinewood, he was there at the time they filmed those scenes.

There's still a lot of dots that need connecting before anyone can say for definite what Luke Skywalker's role in TFA really is. From day one I thought Abrams mystery box referred to Luke, may be slightly Han and Leia, but if Mark Hamill has filmed scenes that MSW never received call sheets for then a lot of people are going to look silly.

Oh come on, you really can't think of reasons why Luke wouldn't kill Kylo? Just because Luke is more powerful doesn't men he would kill Kylo. Ask Vader in TESB why he didn't kill Luke. Luke saving Finn and Rey and then trying to reason with his nephew is plenty of reason why Luke would let Kylo live. He wants to save Kylo like he saved his father.

Did having Ben around eliminate the need for the new characters in the OT? Did having and entire order of Jedi around in the PT eliminate new characters from doing anything?

So, that eliminates your story reasons.

Seriously, this argument that Luke can't be present because it limits the new characters is ridiculous. That would mean Luke couldn't be in VIII or IX either because he would still be limiting them.

Get your fact straight. The outline based on their rumors says:
    • The ship lands. Chewie and BB-8 stay on the ship.
    • Rey departs down the Falcon’s ramp.
    • Rey climbs up the stone steps.
    • Rey finds a figure and puts the lightsaber in his hand.
    • It’s Luke Skywalker.
    • The End.

Nothing about a potential conversation. Just climb the steps, hand Luke the saber, the end.

    T-R-

You proved my point - you have created a fact, "MSW says that Luke doesn't talk," that is not supported by any evidence (including the bullets you included above). Go back throughout MSW's posts and podcasts, and you'll find that not once does Jason state that "Luke DOES NOT talk" in TFA. The answer to that question is left unanswered. MSW doesn't know if Hamill has dialogue, and neither do we.

What you have quoted is a synopsis, put together by DLB, based on the MSW rumors, which are not based on the script. The synopsis does not detail the dialogue of any scenes, as there is no dialogue to work from (apart from a few rumors and examples from toys).

Therefore, it is entirely possible that there is dialogue between the bullet-points "It's Luke Skywalker" and "The End." Rey and Luke may have a ten-minute conversation about sand, for all we know.

So again, you are not entitled to your own facts. MSW never claimed that Luke "doesn't talk" in TFA. That is what I was responding to.

In short, if you're going to accuse someone of something, be able to back it up.

I also mentioned that if Luke didn't kill him, he would certainly defeat him, and capture him. Why did you leave that part out? Did you overlook it, or is it easier to make untenable arguments when you intentionally ignore the details?

This is more poor logic on your part. Kylo is probably more powerful in E8/9; he may be more of a match for Luke. In TFA, we can reasonably assume that Master Luke would easily defeat him. Luke is supposed to be more powerful than Obi-Wan, right? If so, wouldn't Luke basically come in and end all the problems Rey and Finn can't tackle?

By the way, I see you're back to your vague rhetoric of "other sites" that contradict MSW. Are you talking about Reddit again and ashamed to say so? Are these other sites you don't like to name as credible as MSW?

It doesn't matter a whit if they converge on an idea like Luke being in the movie more if they're cruddy sources. Of course, your idea of a good source is one that agrees with you. :)

Why wouldn't Luke kill Kylo? Revenge, and we know a Jedi doesn't seek revenge.

I just want to point out that han could totally take kylo in a fight #allheart obviously han just doesn't have the heart to do it at that moment 'cause he's got a more non-violent heart at that moment you know?

also kylo vs. luke in VIII (if it happens) ideally wouldn't be about their power levels it'd be about kylo failing to take on luke 'cause that's where he's at by this point and luke trying to redeem kylo but not in a vader way and they both live at the end of the duel.

I think we saw a different Luke and he even tried to negotiate with Jabba and warned him several times before attacking, I don't think Luke would easily go for a kill or severe injury of Kylo, especially when they are related. It would be the opposite and could be Luke's weakness not to take the fight serious enough. [face_sigh]

If it ends according to MSW's outline there will be no Luke dialogue. Unless this will be the first ever Star Wars film that inexplicably does away with the wordless/soundtrack endings.

at first I wanted no dialogue, now I would take either direction 'cause if it ends with rey like 'wtf' asking all these questions and we see luke kind of vulnerable in a way we've never seen in him in that old throne temple room looking thing with blue and red lighting (visual representation of moral conflict obviously. love that concept art) that could set the mystery up even more for VIII.

It's actually not clear that there's no dialogue after Rey hands Luke the lightsaber. There is certainly not likely to be much dialogue, and there may very well be none, but MSW has never confirmed anything either way.

Personally, I like the possibility of a wordless scene. Luke turns on the lightsaber, his eyes light up, and BAM. Iris out.

There's dialogue at the end of TESB, followed immediately by the standard musical sendoff, all in the same scene. So there could be dialogue between Luke and Rey without breaking tradition.

I bet (and I hope) Luke doesn't say a word. It would be a great challenge for J.J. Abrams, relying only on visuals and music to characterize Luke. If he suceeds, I'll applaud.

Like Vader captured Luke? There are a million ways Kylo could escape without Luke killing or capturing him.

    Who's argument is untenable?

Probably more powerful? Your argument is based on your assumption of Kylo's power level in the next movie. [face_hypnotized]

Do I really need to list SW7N, LR, MS, et al each time because you can't remember these sites and what they say? Or do you conveniently forget what doesn't agree with your precious? :)

Exactly. They imply no Luke dialogue and manage to give dialogue to other scenes. This they say walk up stairs, had saber, show Luke, aerial shot, the end.
