More and more I'm getting a "Search for Spock" feel to this movie and I'm ok with that.

I don't think it was intended by Disney to let the people think he's Kylo Ren. They made it clear with the one pic from that magazine where Kylo is shown without mask that he's Adam Driver and not Mark Hamill. But these are average joes with a memory capacity of a mayfly and have forgotten about it. Those who think Luke is Kylo Ren are average joes just being.... average joes. (And BTW, I don't want to sound offensive against casual audiences here, I'm in sarcastic mode, but it's clear they're not in that deep knowledge of Star Wars and the Luke Skywalker character as we are).

Yeah, I mean, its normal for casual audiences to mix up stuff. The problem is that these so called people are very disappointed by what they believe to be a "Dark Luke". And it doesnt matter if some of these people get corrected and informed in the YouTube comments, most of these people won't be commenting or read the comments at all. They will just watch the video on their tablet, see Kylo Ren, and then talk with their friends and be like "Duuude have you seen what they did with Luke in the new Star Wars film? Yeah, its so obvious he is the bad guy now, it sucks"

Maybe, just maybe, not all Luke's scenes in VIII will be at Skellig. Mark Hamill has said he will be spending time in the UK next year.

Because that would be more convincing and people will argue that Luke MUST have a bigger role, even though he might not. It may just be a marketing strategy and nothing more.

We may not see Luke a lot in TFA, but I think his presence will be felt throughout the whole movie. Rey will probably only know about the force through stories / legends, the conclusion for her will be that these legends are in fact true. Luke will be this legendary figure that the new generation only knows through these stories. Rey is going to meet him at the end and this is going to be an EPIC moment!

Luke may be mostly absent in all of this marketing campaign, but to me this actually amplifies his presence. He's notable by his absence. It builds him up into this legendary figure of the stories of the Jedi that Rey talks about. At the end of the new trailer we hear Luke's theme. I think that's important.

Also the new trailer really kind of visually ties the scene of hooded Luke and Artoo with the village attack. They share the same colour palette and lighting. I'm really starting to think that is a shot of Luke in disguise (black robe) in the aftermath of the village raid.

I was thinking exactly the same!
This trailer doesn't clear anything up story wise, on the contrary....
Maybe Luke is "there" all the time, but he can "cloak" his presence. He probably needs to find the perfect moment to get in contact with Rey.

Yeah especially when u consider the Knights of Ren do their slaughter in a rainstorm you wouldnt think anything would be burning by the time Luke shows up

Mark hates having a beard. He must've gotten a pretty big sum of money for keeping that beard in case he had no scenes to shoot.

    Nope, not buying your theory.

I'm going to see it on the 16th (01:20 PM), is there a midnight screening on the 15th?
nightangel is going to see the 10:00 AM screening (in the same theater) which is the 1st of all screenings IMO.

Even after another trailer, JJs mystery box still has this discussion on hold....

still too little information to really move it forward.....

It's going to be a big key as to whether the movie works or not...

I think there will be three main question to be asked:

    1) Rey´s parentage
    2) Luke´s role
    3) Finn Force sensitivity
    4) Academy stuff
    5) Snoke

Mark in the UK won't mean anything for VIII if Mark in the UK for months doesn't mean anything for VII. People seem to think he was there as a decoy to hide his small role, yet claim the poster and trailer are proof of his small role - meaning there was no need to hide it to begin with.

I've been saying that for a while. And if the Kylo in rain scene is really the KoR attacking the academy, it looks nothing like the Luke and R2 scene.

Lol at my maths. I guess that is what happens when you wake up at 4:22 am and stay up since then.

I set the alarm at 6 and woke up by myself just 5 mins after the trailer was posted.

I think so far 16th December at 10:00AM CET (which is 04:00AM ET) is the earliest screening in Europe, at least for nomal public. ;)

Darth_Bertie of course I will keep you posted after the movie. :)

Who cares how much Luke is in the movie? What matters is that whenever he's there, it's effective and hopefully cool.

Normally I let stuff like this slide, but the constant complaining is distracting.

Anyways, yeah... I'll go to say that I really like the mystery surrounding Luke. It will that much more awesome when he shows up.

If the MSW leaked synopsis is anything to go by (and now after the trailer a believe it even more) that means we get like 5 seconds of Luke in the whole movie. Which sucks.

I adored the way Han grew from "No mystical energy field controls my destiny" to "It's true. All of it". The way Ford acted that scene was practically Han gushing over Luke Skywalker being the greatest thing ever. And it was brilliant. Luke's impact on Han took him from "I've been from one side of the galaxy to the other and the Force is nonsense" to "Now, I've actually seen some things..."

Yeah, that's great. I'm still hoping Luke somehow communes with him at the very end, almost guiding him through his final moments. Either way, I love that Han is no longer the sceptic. He finally gets the arc he never quite got in Jedi.

Yes, I agree that the Luke/ Artoo scene does match visually with the village in terms of palette, and both being on the backlot. I'm still not convinced 100% they are the same though, nor do I think it's impossible that scene could be linked to the academy slaughter - I still can't remember if the battlefield is the same as the academy anyway. I suppose Luke could also be following behind the action but I don't quite buy it yet. I guess we'll only know when we've seen the movie!

I agree with this- the visuals in the village scene and the Luke/R2 scene appear strikingly similar. However, the KOR in the rain (slaughter) may not be at the Jedi academy either. Kylo would be much, much younger (MSW plot leant credence to the idea that he was abducted at the massacre, not leading it). So could be a difference from the plot we have come to expect.
