Maybe a hint, I don't think he will die in VIII, but for now I take that as meaning simply that the films will live forever.

Yeah true. He caught me off guard he was bad as my dad he 76 , I hate it when favorite actors parents talk about death and dying im not ready to think about it yet. I'm 50 . there are about four actors and one 3 pop stars around my age that have died its getting Scarry . .
I don't think Luke will die or Leia but I think one might get get captured.
What if its opposite from Empire and Kylo is captured ?

"Celluloid heroes never really die" =/= fictional characters are immoral within the confines of their fictional world. He just means the characters will be remembered and can be revisited by future generations.

I don't like the latest report from MSW about Luke's appearance and their inferences about his role AT ALL.

Luke was the Jedi who won by throwing his lightsaber away. Makes sense to me that he wouldn't rely on one, and would also explain Kylo's rough fighting style. Duelling wasn't Luke's priority. And he's the Yoda now, remember - the hero's role is Rey's.

At least it still seems like he gets a great fight scene against the KOR.

so my speculation since before TFA, that Luke is so advanced now that he doesn't even need a lightsaber could end up being true.:D

While it would be fun to see him bring out the green saber at some point, I do like the idea that he's moved beyond it. And given his actions on the Death Star, it would make sense.

I am loud and clear on Luke's role, but still ... Luke is 53. Qui-Gon was still using a lightsaber at that age. Mace Windu. Don't get me started on the Sith turning backflips at advanced age, you know?

I've ZERO issue with Rey as the hero of this trilogy, but I don't think it would kill anyone to give Luke one more time with a lightsaber as a full-fledged Jedi Master rather than the novice we saw in ROTJ. We've been led to believe that he takes on the KoR. Even if he never gets off Ach-Tu in either EVIII or EIX, this seems like a missed opportunity if we don't see him use a lightsaber just once.

Rey being frustrated with Luke's training does sound a little too close to his training with Yoda in ESB. I wonder if he will refuse to return to join the fight, because he knows there are alternatives to fighting. See also what happened on Malachor.

"We were able to get Lumberjack Nick to do an accurate representation of Luke Skywalker’s Star Wars: Episode VIII costume. This depiction is from a training sequence where Rey is frustrated with Luke’s teachings. Nick decided to go with the mechanical look of the hand because we couldn’t tell if Luke had a robotic hand or the black glove in this sequence. He also didn’t appear to have a lightsaber at all but was holding either a thin spear, thin walking stick or a piece of junk so we gave him a placeholder object for his hand in the picture. The point of the photo is that you can see what the design is for Luke’s costume used in those rainy sequences between Skywalker and Rey. Rey’s costume is also accurate:
In the film, the costume is apparenlty just filthy most of the time. Skywalker is more like Yoda on Dagobah in terms of style than the white regal costume he wore to meet Rey at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This costume gets a lot dirtier in the film than the cartoon depiction by Lumberjack Nick. You will also notice there isn’t really any belt or anything for his lightsaber. It makes us wonder if what our friends out in Ireland saw was actually a saber or not during the filming as there seems to be some contention as to if Luke ever actually uses one in this film.
We hope you enjoyed this look at Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Check back for more exciting Star Wars: Episode VIII news very soon!
Thanks to Lumberjack Nick for doing the artwork!" http://makingstarwars.net/2016/10/a...ke-skywalkers-look-in-star-wars-episode-viii/

Another aspect that would be too much like Yoda is Luke being unwilling to train Rey. If they depict Luke as being hesitant, I hope they resolve it quickly and move on. We know he is going to train her. Don't waste time with Rey pleading her case to Luke the way Anakin had to plead his to the council and the way Luke had to plead his to Yoda. We've seen that already. Twice. Luke has to know that the answer was coming in due time. Let him have the wisdom to see the next new hope when he sees her.

True. But I don't want things to come too easy for Rey either. She needs obstacles like this to learn from and not get cocky. She need to be humbled.

hell even Obi-Wan got one final fight against Vader before He was struck down and became "More powerful that we can possibly imagine".
