I agree 100 percent, but that can come in the training and in her rumored rematch against Kylo Ren. Luke was humbled in ESB. Anakin was humbled in AOTC. I am sure Rey will be in Episode VIII, but there are more creative ways to go, IMO, than Luke being all 'I've lost my mojo/you don't want to get into this/insert excuse we've already heard here'.

There's just no way he uses a stick the whole movie... maybe he uses a stick until a grand reveal of his green lightsaber towards the end.

Ugh Luke walking around with a stick and being a grumpy Yoda 2.0... please NO! Can we please get something different in the next film and not the same repeated story beats we got in TFA? We really don't need to retread ESB again like we did ANH... lets move this saga forward and not back. Luke should be in a much different place than Yoda was in that film. He hasn't been training Jedi for 900 years and he rightfully should still be at his peak as a jedi master and warrior. Like others have mentioned Mace Windu, Dooku, and even Old Ben Kenobi was up for a lightsaber duel well beyond their younger years. We HAVE to see Luke do something EPIC and IMPRESSIVE on screen or fans will be disappointed...

It seems the darker outfit is not a call back to ROTJ Luke nor Dooku-ish but like a dirty and hobo suit like Yoda had in ESB. His nice costume was the TFA one. It seems it is more grey-ish than black.

This reinforced my theory that we will see Luke in his flashback Jedi costume in IX, when he meets the Resistance.

Luke will do epic stuff. But I also want to see stuff like Luke having Rey walk across hot coals with her saying "Is this really necessary?!?"

All the while, Luke and Chewie are sitting down chillaxing and drinking ale.

MSW also said during gheir latest podcast there might be some truth about Luke doing some crazy stuff ala Yoda in ESB.

It seems clear they took inspiration from Yoda.

Judge me by my hygiene do you, and well you should not. For my ally is odor, and a powerful ally it is. Its scent surrounds us etc.. etc...
A reclusive last Jedi who has been through as much trauma as Luke has should exhibit some odd social behavior. That makes sense, doing Yoda 2.0 would be disappointing.

Luke not using his lightsaber will be dissapointing. This idea that he is somehow "too good" or "too evolved" to use it kinda bugs me. Yoda had been a force user for over 800yrs and still dueled with a saber until he lost it on coruscant and left for dagobah.

Also the artist who did that Luke costume cartoon needs to learn to draw noses.

So Luke changes out of his white/grey TFA outfit into something more gritty/dirty? Did he get dressed up just for Rey's arrival and then changed back into his casual clothes? LOL.

The lightsaber fights of old Ben and Yoda hardly recommend more of the same.

I dont get it. Luke is Yoda 2.0 because of one or two similarities? talk about overreacting.

if he doesnt use his saber, there has to be a reason. the Story Group are self aware of their property enough to know that people want to see Luke, they will ask questions if we see him and he isnt using a light saber (or doesnt even possess one).
this raises the question of why Luke wouldnt use/have one?
could he have killed an innocent (accidentally, or not)?
there has to be some connections between Luke's withdrawal, Ben's fall, and how we see Luke and Rey at the end of TFA.
he doesnt exactly look well-off. the costume change seems to suggest he doesnt care for how he presents himself. this seems like a damaged Luke - somethings happened to him.

but sure, carry on complaining from rumours and next to no context.

TFA's robe. They don't shoot in sequence, this could be earlier in the film.

except watching Yoda fight like a looney tune on speed was the most cringeworthy moment of the saga, at the opposite of his characterisation in TESB and looked straight out of a kiddy show. Also it was a retcon from Lucas, the original yoda was beyond that and that made him all the more fascinating. Id like to see Luke uses his old saber too...but this is quite a terrible exemple.

I think the outfit thing is simple. He wears something to teach, something else when not training Rey, and then he wears something different if/when they leave the planet.

As to the lightsaber thing. I could easily see it being that he doesn't have his belt on and thus doesn't have his saber on him at that moment. While simply training Rey, he wouldn't need it. But if he senses the presences of some baddies, you will have that gunslinger, samurai or knight moment, where he "arms" himself.

Luke has to use a lightsaber. Everyone wants to see that and Disney knows it. Don't "f" this up Disney. Luke has to be powerful and be active in the action.

I hope after hobo Luke we see a more Jedi-looking Luke. But a more formal contume like the one he wears in the flashback. This page of The Art of TFA book serves as a great example:

I too want to see Luke Skywalker wield a lightsaber at least one more time.

But nobody has been "lead to believe" anything. Again, the source for these movies are the movies themselves, not speculation and rumor on the internet. What we know about Luke comes from the ending of TFA, and that didn't lead us to believe that Luke was still using a light saber. These massive disappointments will continue as long as people take rumor and conjecture as fact.

Even now it's mere speculation that he doesn't use a saber. We know next to nothing, and we've been promised even less.

    Quite a terrible example...to you.

I loved watching Yoda duel. And plenty others did. It's far from a general consensus that Yoda as duelist is viewed as a joke.

I grew up wanting to see Yoda duel. The outcome, especially Yoda vs Palpatine, was deeply satisfying. I'd love to see older Luke continue in a similar vain; a master Jedi who doesn't duel often, but when required, is extraordinarily adept.

Well, we have seen Luke in TFA costume with no place for the lightsaber hilt on the belt, and it seems the hobo costume of VIII does not have it either. In fact, this new costume does not even feature a belt.

This does not rule out he uses the lightsaber. But it seems he does not use it too much IMO.

If Luke crushes the KoR without a lightsaber, I will be shocked as well.

I don't recall Yoda or Palpatine keeping their light sabers hanging on a belt. And I imagine Luke will be far more along the line of those characters.

And it makes sense. Why did Yoda and Palpatine do that? Because it was not usual for them to use the lightsaber. Jedi/Sith Masters are more like wizards in SW.

We've been led to believe by RUMORS that Luke takes on the KoR. If we don't put any stock in MSW on the KoR, there's no reason to even discuss this costume news, because it front the same source. :)

My days of doubting MSW came to an end when the movie was at its end, and we still hadn't seen hide nor grey hair of Luke Skywalker. I had a side of crow with my popcorn and admitted defeat.

I don't think it is unreasonable to think that a scene of Luke Skywalker taking on a squad of seven assassins/warriors by himself might include a lightsaber. If you tell me you are bringing hot dogs for lunch, I will be surprised if there is no mustard, even if you don't specifically tell me that, you know? :)
