ST Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) in the ST

I'm hoping that this was just a bad picture. He does look like he gained weight from what he looked like in The Force Awakens. If he's fatter in Episode 8 than he was in Episode 7, it will make absolutely no sense...

He is still at the same body state as he was in TFA and as others said, he did just wear a too tight shirt.

 

Unless he took this "new jedi order" thing too literally and decided to re-brand with skinny robes, a My Chemical Romance graphic T and Vans skate shoes. What if Rey just happened to land on laundry day?

 

Nice to see Hamill's still got a long beard. He looks fantastic with Jedi whiskers, and I was worried he was going to trim it down for VIII.

 

Yeah he was never super-thin even in TFA. He just lost A LOT of weight for the role. He gives me serious Sir Alec Guinness as Obi Wan-vibes here. Even his look (not super-thin, but looking quite good for his age nonetheless). Plus he'll presumably still have the Jedi robes, which will help in this regard as well.

 

I am afraid people use to forget Mark is actually 10 years older than Luke. When you are in your 60s it is difficult to look super thin if you were fat like heck two years before. That is probably the reason why Luke´s costume is not fit and tight as the PT Jedi robes, but more like the ones Obi-Wan uses in ANH.

 

Which is also probably why they had him start training so early, despite having only like a 30-second cameo in TFA where he's just standing there. It can be hard to lose weight and then maintain it even for a younger person. For a guy in his mid-60's, it's much more difficult. And given that they're seemingly filming the movies pretty close together, it was probably easier just to have him lose the weight and then try and keep it off, than to try and get back into shape every single time.

 

I agree completely but I just wish lucasfilm would take one look at Mark at the premiere and realise how awesome he COULD look with a decent stylist. Seriously, put him back in black and a green saber in his hand and stop all this space-tramp nonsense.

 

Oh, absolutely. I love all-black Luke. And it would hide even better Mark's shape. But it seems Lucasfilm is clearly after a more Yoda/Gandalf Luke and he will stay white-grey for the rest of the trilogy.

 

I'm not sure that all-black would do that. Robes do seem to be the best option in that regard.

 

I still hope for a black/white combination. It can still be a kind of robe, but hopefully a shorter version for combat. And Luke needs to have a fight/duel.

 

Again look at the footage and photos from the premiere. Mark's not looked better (or slimmer) in 20 years. All in black (well mostly), probably wearing a corset (but who the hell cares!) and with a sharper haircut and less tramplike beard.

Basically this guy swinging a green lightsaber and ROTJ-esque costume would be awesome. Death to the bathrobe wearing Jedi of old! (he can still wear a cloak BTW!)

I know Mark's older than Alec was in ANH but Luke is canonically younger and I always felt Alec was playing older than his years (due to numerous references in the movie about him being REALLY old NOT like only 60!) - Also I'm clearly not alone in this as early TPM concept art shows an Obi-Wan who looks at least 50 (and wears black BTW because that's what ROTJ establishes Jedi actually wear when they're on duty and not just chilling on swamp planets or blending in with moisture farmers!)

I didn't hate Mark's look in TFA and it makes some sense for a hermit but I just hope he makes it back to the resistance and has a bit of me-time and trip to the space-mall for some new threads! I'm sure 3PO's programmed for barber shop duties too!

 

I'm not gonna lie. It would be awesome as hell to see Luke in a duel/fight scene during the ST:

 

In fact, in that pic he looks much more like in his 50s than in his 60s. TFA Luke looked older than 53.

Watching again the other day Harry Potter 6, I was thinking about how could it would be if Luke could teach a grandson at some point and be like the Dumbledore figure for him. A strong bond grand father- grand son is something I would love to see in SW.

The mixed black and white robes idea is intriguing. Both visually and thematically/symbolically, it could be rather cool.

 

Man this is just making me wish all three of them had a reunion scene...damnit.

 

Han and Leia said they divorced because Kylo Ren went to the Dark Side. But really they got into a huge fight assembling IKEA furniture.

 

From what I've read, they didn't divorce. They didn't even official separate, they just kind of drifted apart.
