My main comment about the 2005 version is that now that Mitt Romney is no longer in government, he should have taken the lead role as Reed Richards.
His plan was needlessly bloody because he's a bad guy, spent about a few years sitting in a a space chair cameos then over the course of One Movie, Infinity War, kicks the bejesus out of the entire Avengers roster and wins. That is a pretty great payoff Same place the FF are
Just watched the trailer. I wasn't that excited about this movie to begin with and now...eh it looks fine. It could be good. It looks better than the new Captain America movie, that's for sure. Man does that look rough!
At least Fantastic Four doesn’t look like every other Marvel movie. Instead it looks like the genetically engineered hybrid of The Incredibles and Fallout.
I think it looks fun and I'm glad they went with the 60's aesthetic. Some of you obviously woke up in the Negative Zone today
I'm already in mourning for this world's aesthetic, because it's one and done before the end and F4 end up in "616."
i'm not super hyped or anything, bur this will likely be the first marvel thing i watch since shang chi. i love that it takes place in the 60's instead of in the middle of 30 concurrent tv shows that you need to watch if you want to understand everything.
The Fantastic Four are called Marvel's "first family" for a reason wocky. That is the different dynamic. Reed is more than just stretching- he's the most brilliant mind on the planet. So think of Einstein with super powers I guess. You then have Sue Storm who can bend light and make things invisible yes, but also create forcefields/bubbles that can contract expand both in and around a person. She is by far the most powerful of the team. With Johnny, you have someone with the literal power of the sun-if he goes supernova. And then you have The Thing- someone made entirely of rock who can absorb a lot of damage and dish it out- including fighting toe to toe with intergalactic beings. So that is your team of heroes. Now, you have Galactus- cosmic being that is so powerful, earthlings are less than ants to him. And in order to maintain his power, he must consume the life force of planets, draining them in what is essentially climate change on steroids. So, we have that premise which has played out in various media over the years. The reason the comic story has endured is that despite their abilities, they are vastly outclassed by Galactus and are barely able to stop his herald Silver Surfer. Usually, it is with the help of the Watcher that they are able to essentially outsmart and bargain with Galactus in order for him to spare Earth and that focuses on their teamwork, bonds as a family, and their brains over just using powers. No idea how it will play out in the film, but this does tend to explain why Galactus is used. And if you think a giant being is a step too far after we've already established the Celestials? Well, pretend he's a giant cloud then.
This is a really good point. I think this is probably true for antagonists in general, not just because the audience can then identify with the villain, but also so that the hero themselves draws understanding of their own path from the villain. Vader, Angel Eyes, Gollum, Hans Landa; they are all dark reflections of the hero.
I’m really hopeful for this. I have some qualms with the cgi and some other minor quibbles, but man… I just really need marvels first family right now.
had the same reaction. it looks okay, nothing too exciting other than galactus' silhouette there at the end. was hoping reed's abilities would be shown, but maybe the next trailer.
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby had one idea in mind when creating Galactus. What if the FF fought God? They win by using their brains.
My 2 cents: the trailer has far more than the eyes meet. The movie is directed by Matt Shakman who previously directed the WandaVision series for the MCU. And it's at first could be irrelevant but the more i watched the trailer the more i saw WV all over again. The first scene where Reed and Sue host some guy over dinner felt very odd to me at first . Ifelt like there were a weird vibe with that, but when i made the Shakman connection i realized it's some sort of version of the dinner Vision and Wanda host the Hart's (( Vision boss and his wife). Next was The Thing giving his best Cousin from the Bear impression. Another "shankmanism" if you remember WV. And in the end, probably the one reason Feige chose Shakman was because as in WV Spoiler the story is about an utopic , idealistic world coming to an end with the heroes having a lot to do with it.
See earlier in the thread talking about the cheap sound cues used to create a tweaser for the teaser. What would you prefer? A giant cloud?
Assuming Galactus doesn't eat it, they could bounce to Earth-199999 for Avengers stuff then back home for sequels. Dr Doom non Stark variant after Secret Wars is a whole other potential thing
I'm pretty surprised at the amount of negative and "meh"comments I am seeing. LOVED the trailer. Granted, I loved the 60s Fantastic Four, and I also loved the Byrne run, so I have a long-running connection to and affection for the classic characters, that kind of wonky, retro sci-fi adventurer vibe, and I felt this trailer and the look of the footage nailed all that almost perfectly, I understand some of the complaints about Pascal as Reed Richards, although I don't buy into them. Some have argued that he always plays "the same guy" but not only don't I see that (is his Joel the same as, for example, the same as his fanboy-gangster in THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT?) More than that, however, couldn't the same be said about many actors? Sean Connery, to grab one easy example? I will grant that he doesn't fit the cliche, that people playing "smart guys" need to have a certain look and "feel" (Get me Benedict Cumberbatch - STAT!). But nothing about what I saw here took me out of the movie, so, we'll see. The glimpse of Galactus was great, and done right, he is a fantastic villain. I love that they're apparently going with a very comic-accurate look for him. LOVE the "sorta 60s, sorta Jetson" style of the clothes, the buildings, the furniture, the cars, the world. The most enthused I have been for a Marvel movie in quite a while. Really looking forward to it! PS I guess it could be dismissed as "nostalgia bait" but I think the 60's-ish, Ben Cooper-ish Halloween costumes of the Thing, being worn by the kids, are just freaking awesome!
