Great! More Claudia books is always fine, I wonder if this is going to delve into pre-TPM timeline, if they did it with Maul why not with them?

I know everybody is going to hate me but I really don’t think Claudia Gray is all that. Bloodline was super-boring and Lost Stars was a kind of “put the characters behind the scenes” type book. I’m not a huge fan of that concept.

Normally I would ask for Luceno, but Tarkin and Catalyst were abhorrent so I’m just really sad Drew Karpashyn and Matthew Stover aren’t being pulled back in. Stover is a brilliant writer who’s prose and writing style are romantized and make you feel. Drew has NEVER disappointed me with any of his novels. Why can’t they come back? :_|

Ey, now that he's left Bioware for a second time, maybe he'll be asked to write another Star Wars novel.

So excited for this! SDCC was very good to the PT era this year. This particularly excites me, because we know little about Qui-Gon in canon. I wonder if the Mandalorian Civil War will factor into this book at all?

Between this and Clone Wars, It's good to see Disney finally acknowledge the PT era after years of pandering to the OT-only crowd.

I think she's easily the best (or one of the top 2 along with Alexander Freed) of the newer authors. Bloodline was decent, I just really hope this one is not young-adulty at all, it's exactly the sort of thing I've been waiting for.

Just saw this thread and was immediately excited for this novel. I think that this could be a very affecting book. Claudia Gray has a real knack for making her characters deep, flawed and relatable.

Gray is capable of showing us the development and the complexities of the relationship between Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan. I would love to read about Obi-Wan as a child and teenager. Gray is also capable of giving us an exciting and action-packed narrative.

This book could add layers of depth to TPM and to our understanding of the two titular characters. It's an important novel and a big responsibility, but Claudia Gray is more than up to the task.

I'd be surprised if it isn't the "on the run with Satine" story. That's a major bit of backstory that's been waiting to be told, and the kind of assignment they'd tend to give to Gray (if she didn't ask to do it herself).

Anyone who thinks Grey isn't one of the best things to happen to Disney SW is bizarre.

Yes, lots of PT love. And a Grey book, which is always a good thing. All her work has been among the best SW books I've read. So this will be a very interesting book.

But my other thought is...I'm a bit sick of PT stories. We got soooo many back in the day. And I know those aren't canon now, but I'm less concerned about that.

I want new stories going forward or even further back. But mostly post-ROTJ.

That being said...I think they aren't able to do those stories yet. Hopefully after IV.

So...this is a good route to go in the meantime. IF they are good stories. I'm confident the Grey book will be. I really like the Ahsoka book, so I'm excited for the Padme book. And then another year of TCW (which I'm thrilled about).

There has been a lot of OT focus, which made sense to ramp up excitement for SW in general for the PT and the return of the big three to the big screen.

What I find interesting about this is what JJ has said about IX sort of binging all the movies together, including the PT.

How do these stories connect to that? I think it may be intentional.

What I also think is smart is how this may be more interesting to a younger crowd who grew up on the PT stuff. I'm an "old timer." I grew up with the OT. I loved all the OT nastalgia and love.

But we aren't the movie goers we were when younger. Younger groups bring in more money.

It would be great if "Master and Apprentice" had a double meaning. Not just referring to the relationship Obiwan had with Qui-gon Jinn but also between Jinn and Dooku. Such as this book having some flashback scenes where Dooku was his master.

Disney would be going on new roads if we got a story about apprentice Qui-gon and Master Dooku.

Every single one of you is trying to twist this into a Dooku novel. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.:p

Cool. I kind of would have preferred to get a "Dooku and Qui Gon" novel, but this is good to. Also Claudia Gray is great of course.

That’s my fondest wish. I emailed him asking him to return and he said if they call for him, he’d go back. Normally authors are contacted by LucasBooks and have no say in getting to write a novel but once you’re established, you can pitch ideas from time to time.

Another way to have Dooku is to simply have him part of a trio of himself, Qui-gon, and Obiwan. In an adventure where we get to see them all interact with each other.

I wonder if Dooku at the time of Master Qui-gon had another apprentice or Instead he wasn't teaching anymore. Also whether or not Obiwan was Qui-gons first apprentice.

Well, I understand you have an opinion and I will honor that. With that said, Luceno is not a boring writer. On the contrary I love his writing and if Tarkin and Catalyst appear boring to you, its not the writer fault its the direction the story group want the stories to go. We are under a new canon system and some of the new canon novels aren't as exciting as the Legends. Luceno rocked with LOE (best lead in to a movie ever in star wars) and Darth Pleguies (some of the best star wars books ever). I'm not taking issue with it, but most of the new eu canon novels have been second rate to the movies and animated series. Brining back Drew won't make a difference if he can't tell a good story. His Darth Bane trilogy was awesome and if one looks closely in the second book, Bane with that creature used the power of flight to fly out of the planet into space and back to Onderon. So getting him back depends. Zahn for example came back to tell more Thrawn stories and his new EU novel was very good. Can't wait for Tuesday for the next one with Darth Vader. In fact, the only real eu novels that I enjoyed are Lords of the Sith, Tarkin, Thrawn, and the Disicple one by Golden. The others......to include the trilogy by Wendig, Bloodline, and Phasma were hard to for me to read. On the issue of Stover I wouldn't mind having him come back anymore than having Genndy coming back to do some sort of micro series, but if they are going to tell a story that is .............less than epic, then no I don't want them back.

The only NeuCanon book I liked was A New Dawn. John Jackson Miller is technically in my opinion, the best new canon author. I’m hoping Thrawn: Alliances changes my mind on Tuesday. Zahn is a great writer. I just thought the first Thrawn was boring.

I'm sorry if that's considered bullying. Yunzabit took it in the spirit it was intended. If the person it's directed at has no issue with it I'm not quite sure the point, but will leave it there.

If we don't get one soon I am pretty sure we will all just start pretending one was announced for so long that Del Rey will forget they did not greenlight one and ask Luceno for his final draft. After all we all know he has had a Dooku novel finished since like 2004
