Um, no comment. I was looking for this:

"I dreamed a dream, which was not at all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguished, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy breath
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless
    air."

An old Poem by Lord Byron, 19th century poet

Something just occurred to me concerning the timeline of events in the Matrix. In the first movie, Morpheus mentions that it is believed to be a couple of hundred years forward from around 1999. But with the revelation that the current Matrix is the latest one out of 6 iterations, could that change the dating implications? The citizens of Zion do not know of the previous incarnations of the Matrix, and they have been fighting a war for about a century. Which begs the question, how did each previous city of Zion fight against the Matrix and the machines? Could humanity have been enslaved for as much as 600+ years? Maybe even an entire millenium of human civilization rising and falling, perhaps?

One other thing I will comment, that I like thinking about. The new movie puts an interesting spin on the different types of empowerment. Which is the more effective power, control over information and the definition of the situation, or pure physical superpower? One of the challenges with creating a character who practically Superman is presenting a credible threat. And Neo's near omnipotence turns out to be part of an even greater scheme to keep humanity enslaved in the long run.

i was bored, offended, amused by things not meant to be amusing, offended again and bored again. what the hell kind of crap sequel was that? i about lost it during the ten minute orgy scene. was the point of that to show how much humans are just brainless animals? cause it sure did a good job of that, imo. i wanted to go run people over by the time the 2 hour crapfest had ended.

    good parts of the movie:

    - neo. rawr. his nifty glasses and retardedly attractive priest robe thing get 5 stars from me. and the "i'm a tortured prescient dude" thing is pretty hot. paul atreides, anyone? i have a thing for guys with messiah-complexes (and priest's robes), i guess. :p

    - agent smith dog pile. OMG. apparently some dreams DO come true. *fans self* i also about died when he straightened the tie of the other smith. wow. this scene/concept could only have been better if he had been dressed as elrond. whee!

    - the twins. and to think, i thought they'd be the most annoying part of the movie by far. they were awesome. and best of all, not overused.

    bad parts of the movie:

pretty much everything else. the "young annoying guy" who was put in for no reason other than to replace mouse was idiotic. the star trek-movie uniforms. the council stuff. i no longer have to guess how amidala would look as an old woman.

the hideous matte paintings of zion were lame. the "morpheus screams 'power trip' in so many words" speech was a joke. as soon as that happened i knew this movie would suck. and that was a nice rip off of the sietch tabr/"long live the fighters" scene in david lynch's dune. if you're gonna rip off something, you should try to do a better job than the original. *rolls eyes*

the tribal drum crap was moronic. the orgy REALLY pissed me off. ugh, i about walked out. the pseudo-philosphy was insulting. the doc-brown writing syndrome (i.e. "replace every normal word with an obscure synonym to sound smarter"). the actors reaked of pointless self-importance. this movie has nothing to teach anyone and barely entertains for more than a few minutes.

the keymaker. right. way to rip off yet another 80s film (rick moranis is the keymaster in ghostbusters). shall we go for 3? oh, yeah, this rips off tron, too. a lot.

worst thing in the movie by far: redundancy up the wazoo. i don't care how cool it is, if you use anything too much it starts being stupid. the fight scenes felt like the same three shots re-used for the duration of "insert techno song here", and rather than really move the story along, it felt more like the story was written around the ideas of these fight scenes. and none of the fights were even impressive! we watched the original matrix right after seeing the sequel and those fight scenes are STILL just as good as the first time.

everything cool from the original was reused constantly, i noticed. the cg was terrible, the characters were boring and nothing felt real. it felt like one big long expensive and boring joke.

this didn't have the honesty and weight of the first film, which, i've decided, was an accidental success. the first one feels like an arthouse film with a huge budget, inspired, obviously, by karate flicks, but also hammer horror films and old sci fi movies.

i guess i should have been tipped off at the fast and the furious sequel trailer before the movie. i can't believe wb pushed back the release of prisoner of azkaban for this crap, honestly. this was a great example of a story's soul being eaten alive by the great money making beast. i think matrix: reloaded is fodder for the brainless masses.

i didn't think they could do it, but they completely ruined this franchise. as far as i'm concerned, no sequel was ever made. i have the original matrix and that's all i need.

okay, so... sorry that was so long, i was just INCREDIBLY disappointed. i almost wanted to cry it was so bad, heh. :p

You didn't even like the car chase scene jupiter?

Or the fight with Neo and the hundreds of Agent Smiths?

Or the twist at the end?

I can understand about the orgy though. It seemed really out of place. That kinda stuff doesn't belong in movies like Matrix.

Now that I have seen the film twice, I feel I can state my opinion with confidence. Overall the movie was great. It seemed to have it's share of flaws though.

LEAST FAVORITE SCENE - Neo fighting in the park with all the Smiths after his meeting with the Oracle. CG Neo looked like crap (Yoda's fight with Dooku rivals this one I think!)! There were also various moments when close-ups were used of Reeves' stuntman... ummmm... why? He only looks KIND OF like Reeves.
The Orgy scene didn't bother me but it did seem a bit long (No sexual joke implied) ;) .
Some of the Superman stuff bugged me... but I got over it.

FAVORITE SCENES: The Freeway! That's all I have to say. The moment Trinity goes dead on into oncoming traffic... ooh yeah!
I actually enjoyed a lot of the explanation scenes like the Architect. But I love that kind of dialogue.
The French dude was perfect for that role... Actually, I just think it's fitting that a lame @$$ jerk be played as a French man. Okay there... got that off my chest. Go USA!

All in all, the movie was great despite it's flaws. And no matter what anyone says, there will be no worse movie this summer than THE HULK. Thank you and goodnight! :D

I REALLY liked that twist in the end.

I need to see it a second time and read into what the architect mentioned.

I KNOW that the "6th time" means something HUGE! Pretty sure that the "real world" isn't real at all but their illusion of choice as a measure of control.

And the scene of Neo vs. the sentinals? Um Hello! Giveaway!

Sorry Dave but the "real world" in the movie is the real world. If you play the game "Enter the Matrix", It reveals how Neo was able to control the machines in the real world and why he blacks out from it.

I was disappointed with the movie the first time I saw it , but the second time you catch a lot more of what the oracle is doing what the French dude was trying to do and what the Architect was saying. Really cool stuff. I really like it more the second time

One other thought, every time Neo sees the oracle she gives him something to eat...The cookie in the first one, and the candy in the second. Think about the chocolate cake that the French guy gives the girl. Is he trying to tell Neo something? Maybe Neo is eating more than he thinks he is? Just a thought...

If that's the case, how can he destroy Zion 6 times?

And I'm sticking with my story till you spill the beans. Sideshow and I are in the same boat with the X-Box. :p

The game is also on PS2 and PC.

Seraph was glowing because he's not human. He's a program like the Oracle.

Sorry guys my internet connection has been down for a couple of days.

First of all Dave, Neo has not destroyed Zion 6 times. It has been destroyed 5 times by the machines. Each time a new version of the one has been "reset " if you will. Remember in the first movie Morpheus says that the first "ONE" he knew of died and that the oracle prophesied that he would return. The oracle?s roll in all of this is still not clear but more than likely she is the mother of the matrix and the program set up to control the ONE, not help him. The architect says that the purpose of the Mother of the matrix is to control the ONE, and to separate the people who choose to wake up from the matrix. When that group gets to big they destroy it and start over. She is doing this by getting the people to believe in a false sense of what the ONE really is and they just blindly follow her.

When you play the game you can pick to play with Naobi, or her first mate. During the game your player goes to the oracle after the events of the last movie. She tells you that because Neo went to the source he has a constant connection between the real world and the matrix. This is how he was able to ?feel? the machines and that somehow gave him the power to stop them. The game doesn?t reveal much more but it does show that Neo will wake up with more understanding of what happened.
