All the mods in the world -- even some of the excellent Kung Fu and Matrix mods that were made for #1 -- can't change the fact that you're replaying the same adventure and/or going thru the same story over and over again.

Not true - there are Mods which are "total conversions", with their own custom weapons, enemies, levels, and storylines. One of the more prominent ones in development is the Matrix Reloaded mod, or the Blade Runner mod, to name a handful.

True, the total conversions strive to offer something different. But they were few and far between as far as Max Payne 1 was concerned. What I meant was that even though the Kung Fu or Matrix mods made you look like Neo, kick ass like him or give you near infinite bullet time, the fact was that you were just playing the same game, albeit somewhat easier given the features of the mods. And they are fun, I'll admit that; I've saved some of the best I've found for whenever I get that itch to install and play Max Payne again.

It's funny that Remedy realized that replayability was somewhat limited for Max Payne, so they gave us such a mod friendly game. Maybe MP2 will be just like that. I don't think I'll ever know; I've resigned myself to settle for the moment with the piss-poor PC hardware I currently have, so I think I'll wait for the console version when it comes out and rent it. If the game is as short as it's said to be, at least it'll make for a worthwhile weekend rental. :)

That's why you try to have multiplayer in a shooter, to add replayability to the title.

Yeah, that adds replayability. Until the newbs with their aim bots show up and start making it not fun. And a lot of multiplayer games get mods that increase the replayability through the mod. CS was already mentioned though, so I can't mention it again. BF1942 is another game that has the multiplayer replayability aspect, but it also has a ton of mods that add to that, like Desert Combat and the Galactic Conquest mods.

whispering death, chain mailers in your posts are stupid everyone knows that mafia cheats thing is one of those. you lose.

    on max payne 2.

storyline sucked! max lives. This guy gets shot in the head, gets kissed gets up and kills 100 or so baddies, survives a exploding mansion and kills the badguy.

    sure.

bullet time 2.0 , I dont like how it changes colours..

also to get the alternate ending, beat the game on hard boiled to find out mona sax lives too.

    freaking indestructable people :p

patch was released yesterday to fix load times.

and yes it is, aliens are real, while humans that can be shot in the head and then have no problem clearing out houses is not.

Thanks for sort of spoiling the game for those of us that haven't played it, Wildcard. [face_plain]

Still, with what you gave away and the game's overall shortness, I'm even more dissapointed now. Definitely will rent rather than buy when the console version comes out.

What she lives ? Bleeding hell, and I thought "cool not a happy ending for once"... Ok, gotta replay it on hard-boiled... But I'll probably use some cheats... While overall it wasn't so hard, some levels were quite tough, with rather little painkillers - the mission where you protect Baseball Bat Boy, for example. ;)

EDIT : The smiley isn't hidden, hope it doesn't spoil anyone. :p

    aliens are real

They are?! Whoa! Someone call the press, this is a big news story!

while humans that can be shot in the head and then have no problem clearing out houses is not.

Uh, that's why it's called a game and you are the hero. And it's not unheard of for someone to be shot in the head and survive.

see thats whats so funny about gamers.

its totally acceptable to have a gun that shrinks people, expands people, pummels them with nuclear rockets, or shoots nails. however they get up in arms about someone to surviving a headshot.

fighting vampires and demons with a whip is fine. playing a man who turns into a demon is ok. a flying pink marshmallow is acceptable. floating cars that cruise at thousands of miles per hour are commonplace. gimme a break...

the reality of the situation is that it IS indeed possible to survive a shot to the head. it depends on the caliber weapon, shot location, and a LOT of luck. it does happen and more often than you think. its in the news every once and a while.

Lem used a desert eagle to your head, point blank. and its not jsut being shot and living, its being shot, and being able to kick ass left right and center without a thought.

I dont even enjoy bullet time that much :p I only used it when absolutly necessary, like in the hospital and in the last part of the manor the rest of the time not really.

and yes, I may like sci fi, but I enjoy realistic action.

being the hero is fun yes, but not when you are an invulnerable hero.

Not exactly. He fired a glancing blow that clipped you over your left ear, and he fired at a range of like.. 6-7 feet, at least.

I've beaten MP2 twice now, once on Easy and once on Medium. I'm beating it on Hard at the moment so that I'll have access to the alternate ending. :D

Great game. I want to say that it's better than MP1, but I haven't played that one in a while so I won't. The story was much more interesting to me tho. So it's not a long game, but it feels alot longer than it is, because it's action, action, and more action. They released the modding tools a few days ago, so there's already some pretty cool little mods out that I'm playing with. I'm waiting for some really interesting dead man walking maps. I'm addicted to that mode. I can't wait for max payne 3. Hopefully, they use the dead on arrival ending!

    I can't wait for max payne 3.

Is this already in the works or are you just hoping for it? I haven't had a chance to play MP2 yet, but I liked the first one a lot. If they're making a third one, hopefully it would be just as good as the first two.

I'm waiting for some really interesting dead man walking maps.

Check out the 3DRealms "Max Payne" forums -- Remedy (makers of Max Payne 1 and 2) just released 2 new Dead Man Walking maps (which are downloadable off the Downloads section of the Max Payne 2 official website). They're my favorite maps now, and I can last over 10 minutes on both.

Is this already in the works or are you just hoping for it?

The last line of the credits in MP2 is "Max Payne's journey into the night will continue" or something like that.

If they're making a third one, hopefully it would be just as good as the first two.

It kinda depends on who you mean by "they". Remedy sold the rights for Max Payne to Rockstar Games, so it's kinda up in the air on whether or not they'd be working on Max Payne 3. All we know is, Max Payne 3 WILL happen at some point.

I knew there had to be a thread on this...I got the PS2 version of Max Payne 2 yesterday at Game and started playing today. I have not played the previous Max Payne game yet, but the 'Previously' graphic novel hit the high points. Pretty good so far, and the PS2 version does allow you to save when you want, but you have to exit to the menu to do it.(No quicksave). Better than the method in 'Star Wars:Bounty Hunter' by far (saves at the end of each level). The main problem I am finding is the controller setup - I had my first death because I keep hitting the keys for aim & shoot that Bounty Hunter uses.
That and finding painkillers. I am in the warehouse in Chapter 1 and I must have searched almost the whole thing. Too bad the bottles don't light up like the Bounty Hunter bacta..

    Maybe you just suck.

    8-} jk

You can go into the controller menu and change the set-up to make it more like Bounty Hunter.

I know..that may be the next step. I will give it a few tries before I do, though. This was only my first time playing the game
and I have been playing Bounty Hunter for awhile so I am just used to that setup.
