With images like this one, there is no doubt that the falcon will be in the P.T.
Anyway, how many fathers give their most prized car to their son or daughter? Lots

My only question is, why build it somewhere, and have to ship it to Pinewood for assembly. Wouldn't it be easier and less expensive to build it on site?

Not nessasarily, especially if workshops and space are currently taken up by other productions. It's far more costly to have it sat around taking up space at a studio than it is at an offsite warehouse. It's also worth noting this is no different to how they made the original Falcon which was constructed at a shipyard.

True, but production isn't scheduled to start for what, 4 or 5 months?

I don't know where the writer's getting the idea that Tarkin was informed the Falcon was a danger but chose to ignore it from:

Luke's pressing down the final leg of the trench in 'New Hope'. Vader is about to get a lock on him, but suddenly the Millennium Falcon appears on the Death Star's scanners! Grand Moff Tarkin is informed, but he doesn't worry- it's just an "piece of junk"(Luke's quote), so no immediate threat to the station.
He commands it be ignored in his "Moment of Triumph"!

Remember though filming was delayed, if they'd already booked offsite workshops and space before that decision was made they would be still obligated to pay for it so why not use it.

We heard about this months ago. But still glad that it's being reinforced. The Falcon IS A CHARACTER as iconic as any SW character.

The sets were built awhile ago if we're to believe these reports and I do. But Disney wasn't given Pinewood yet. In fact I don't think they get the studio until 2014, AIRC.

IMO I think the Falcon will be passed on to the New Generation -- GL said, "Pass on what you've learned," but what is more iconic in American Culture than passing on cars to our children? I think both the Falcon and Chewie will live on in future episodes beyond 9. And Disney has plans for a full-sized Falcon for the theme parks I believe as well as was reported on future park plans.

They are in Pinewood as of now, at least the Creature Shop is. The reveal of R2 confirmed that.

    Yes, right. Thank you.

The point remains though that they couldn't move in when the Falcon was being constructed.

Seeing this is getting me all teary-eyed.

And I will also have tears in my eyes when Han tells his daughter: "Take good care of the girl. She's got it where it counts. And she got me through a lot of scraps."

The Falcon is to Star Wars what the Enterprise is to Star Trek.

    Iconic.

Yes, and while the Enterprise is a marvel of technology, the falcon has more soul. Every nook and cranny tells a story.

What if they made it bigger just to blow it up. Bigger ship, bigger explosion. :p

To be fair, it is a possibility since Ford has always felt that Han should of died.

I'd be fine with them blowing it up sometime in the trilogy, but only if Han is driving it with Chewie at his side, in the ultimate self-sacrifice for our heroes

By the time Episode VII is released it will have been 32 1/2 years since we last saw the Falcon roar across the movie screen in a new Star Wars film.

To have them blow it up would be the dumbest idea ever.

It comes in for a landing at the Senate building when Obi-Wan and Anakin's shuttle arrives at the beginning of the movie.

It's pretty easy to miss. I don't remember the first time I saw it but I don't think it was in the first 100 times through. :p
