    It was a satisfying finale!

I do hope Gideon stays dead and that this serves as a series finale. Honestly, what more could you ask for from Din, Grogu, and Gideon?

I’m glad we got an answer for what Gideon’s plans were all along. It’s unfortunate we never got to see his clones at work. Though to be fair, the show only seems to treat the Force as telekinetic powers, so perhaps it’s best left to the imagination. Gideon being such a cerebral villain, I imagine that the Force’s powers of perception would’ve been his dark troopers’ greatest strength.

I very much agree. This is a fine way to wrap things up if they so desire.

About Gideon's army, against other foes it would have been really formidable, but I imagine he would eventually find himself as surprised as Desann was when invading Luke's Jedi Academy: even with Force induced troops, it's the years of training in the Force, the dedication and discipline, that made the difference.

Still, it's fun to see that the series brought back aspects from the Jedi Knight series, one of my favorites from Legends: the dark trooper design was to evolve into an armor to be donned (much like Rom Mohc´s third phase), and the troops were to be artificially Force induced, much like Desann´s Reborn and Shadowtroopers in Jedi Outcast. Only lacked aspects from Jedi Knight itself (Kyle Katarn, Jerec and his band, 8t88, etc) to be perfect!

I thought that pretty early on in ep 8, the lack of moustache and his hair combed forward instead of scraped back, seems a change for little or no reason.

He looked much cooler with the stache and his hair combed backwards.

I kind of hope they make Dark Forces lightly canon. It can be retconned that the Phase 3 dark trooper had two iterations in itself, the power suit worn by Rom Mohc and the battle droid version deployed by Gideon when it was realized it was more efficient. I like how Mandalorian ended up being kind of a soft sequel to Dark Forces and took it one step beyond with Phase 4.

Respawn’s FPS game is rumored to be “inspired” by Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, so maybe they reboot the original storyline for new canon treatment with Doom 2016/Doom Eternal gameplay and incorporate Gideon as Mohc’s benefactor

They would have to retcon the Phase 1 and 2 dark troopers also, because Gideon said that they were power suits whereas in Dark Forces they were droids.

I have a feeling that the writers thought it would be silly if his clones all had the same exact mustache and I have to admit that if they did I'd totally be joking about it on this board. That said his clones could've been stacheless and the OG Gideon could have a stash. Maybe practically speaking it would've been harder to film that?

The season 3 finale reinforced something TROS had only implied about cloning technology in the new canon.

Clones can be grown to full adulthood. They don’t have to age after being “born” and can be engineered to be a certain age from birth.

This was also how cloning worked in the EU. But when Lucas introduced cloning in the movies, he followed the more realistic approach of having them born as babies and then develop into adults over time (whether at a normal or accelerated rate).

But Gideon’s clones are all his age. And the Snoke clones were all the same age as the character we knew. This also suggests Palpatine’s clones could’ve been grown to be any of many ages, whether young like his son or closer to the age we see him at in the prequels.

Maybe TBB season 3 will finally clearly establish it as a technology invented on Tantiss.

He went from the coolest villain since Vader, in episode 7 of season 1, to one of the worst villains of the Disney era. Favreau really, really dropped the ball with Gideon. Couldn't wait for him to be dispatched. And not in a "love to hate him sort of way. He was just way too over the top and boring. And full of bad lines and dumb actions.

After crushing the Darksabre, saying "The Darksabre is gone" in a thoroughly flat way. Just, wow.

Makes the delivery of "Our first catch of the day" sound positively Shakespearean.

I actually like the more “realistic” cloning of AOTC. Plus who wouldn’t want a few dozen kid Moff Gideon’s running around.

Someone’s going to eventually write Gideon’s backstory now that Favreau is done with him (…hopefully.) I’m curious how they address his Mandalorian obsession, since I think putting him in Mando armor should end up having more story relevance, even if it’s just Gideon having a sick sense of humor and playing psychological games.

I don't think he's dead. That armour looked like it could withstand fire.

About Gideon's clones. I'm probably wrong, but it looked like they de-aged him somewhat.

It certainly would have helped if he was more than just talk. A villain needs to achieve something to appear threatening. And not through off-screen successes either. The problem with him only appearing so rarely is that anything that worked in his favour was immediately undone again and again. His constant losses as soon as the heroes appeared are akin to ESB ending not with the rebels scattered, Han frozen in carbonite and Luke with one hand less, but with Vader once again tumbling away in a TIE-Fighter as his SSD gets destroyed by the rebels.

If you want to use Gideon again in season 3, either go all in and have him appear much sooner, possibly including an encounter which ends in a draw or a win for him. Or have him escape at the end with something that helps his cause, even if he loses his base. Something that makes the heroes want to hunt him in season 4.

He’s been handily beaten three times by now. I can no longer buy him as a credible threat to the Mandalorians.

I am more disappointed that an amazing actor was just wasted on such a lame character in retrospect.

That's a Star Wars tradition at this point. Richard E. Grant says, "hi!" As does Titus Welliver, Justin Theroux, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Max von Sydow, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro, just to name a few.

I rewatched the finale last night and I could not unsee Gideon's armor as Emperor Zurg from Toy Story.
