Korriban, and i'm actually shocked people voted for Moriband. Seems fairly silly to change the name of the planet at all.

I voted "don't care" because I'm not that familiar with Old Republic material and didn't have a preconception of the name.

I do think Lucas' reason for changing it was stupid though. We're going to get it mixed up with Coruscant? Really? [face_beatup]

It's Korriban to me, always will be. Ever since I played KOTOR almost seven years ago, that's what I've called the Sith homeworld. Do I really care about the name change, though? Nah, not really.

CT-5555 agreed. Knights of the Old Republic video games and Tales of the Jedi comic books are why it's still gotta be Korriban to me. But I have to count those Yoda episodes in my canon so he can have a different name for it. :p

If that is the case then I eagerly await Lucas backed name changes for any of the following

    Tatooine
    Dantooine
    Mantooine
    Klatooine
    Vactooine
    Minntooine

Voted don't care, I'm down with both. It is incredibly likely that a planet which is a breeding ground for treachery and deception can have more than one name. I'm gonna No Prize that Moriband is it's "true" name because Qui-Gon happened to be a dead, all-wise Force Ghost and he knew it by that.

That was really his reason? Really?

I'm in the "don't care" faction (I'll always know it as Korriban but it's plausible enough as linguistic drift, and the planet's the same either way), but wow, that's bizarre if true.

Korriban sounded to much like Coruscant... I sure agree Lucas.

If that's true...doesn't the "band" ending actually make it more like Coruscant since there's another consonant after the "an" that Korriban doesn't have?

But neither is he alone in that sentiment.

I never said he was, Sir. I was simply stating that his view isn't all pervasive.

Korriban. I find it a lot better that way
but it's okay if we consider that for some thousands of years before The clone wars people called it Korriban then it got changed through the years to Morriband

I prefer Korriban. Moriband follows in the footsteps of bad name puns like Sidious, Grievous, Maul and Savage.

It's a bizzare, nonsensical reason. So, of course that's what GL thought! In his typical wrong thinking fashion.

Morriband, TCW is canon, in TCW it's Morriband so for me too. I don't care whether they called Morriband Korriban or something else in the EU.

Please, let's not get into "I don't personally care about something, so that means it's not as real as the stuff I care about!" territory. It's the very definition of subjective. It's all in the wording: "My personal canon" = fair. "Canon whether you like it or not" = problematic.

Except that Moraband now IS canon whether we like it or not. Is it problematic if it's true?

Good on you! It isn't often that someone who perhaps assigns a little less personal fervor to SW is able to empathize with someone such as myself (who's relationship with the franchise admittedly can, at times, seem to border on the religious).

    ===========

Oh, yeah... I've grown very used to the name "Korriban," of course, but I've always been a proponent of George Lucas having the final say as Creator, as well. I think his explanation for the change is so silly that frankly, I don't quite buy it. I imagine he just wanted to name the homeworld of the Sith himself.

The in-universe explanation (which is what I ultimately care about, really) of worlds having different names over the eons suffices for me.

I do prefer the sound of the name "Korriban," and I'm tempted to keep calling it that, but I will say this: put Moraband (and the episode guide says "Moraband", with an "A") in the ST, and it will likely always be that to me.

I'm talking about peoples' conversational declarations. Anyway, maybe it's canon, but it's still not the whole picture. It's quite a narrow mindset to say that a planet's name can't have any linguistic variance with 1000 years.

But I have nothing more to say on it; see my other post in this thread as to why.

I will defend the name Moraband. Why do one need to start a huge argument over a FICTIONAL name? Look at the Superheroes constantly rebooted, the comics have nothing to do with the movies...
On Starwars.com the triva said that the planet could be known by many different names across the times. Makes sense.
Moraband is a long lost/abandoned planet it could have been known as Korriban back in the day.

The fact that in future content the planet will be named Moraband shouldn't take away the enjoyment you have for material it is called Korriban

Korriban. Moriband was a pointless middle finger to EU.
