I was wondering which villain death did everyone here think to be the most fitting for the character in the IJ trilogy?

Personally, I always thought it was Elsa who had the most fitting of all the deaths. It wasn't a flashy, special effect filled death, but rather one that just fits perfectly for her character.

Elsa is consumed with greed and what better way to illustrate than by dangling her over an abyss with the grail just in her arm's reach. The blonde villain of course doesn't pass up the chance to have her glory. In perfect fashion, her hand can't quite touch it, but she is too close to give up. Then for an added touch, she's wearing gloves which helps her hand slip away faster. Her final words "I can reach it. I can reach it," couldn't be more indictive of how greedy she was. As she is about to get it, the glove comes free and Elsa falls into the smokey abyss. A very solid and satisfying demise.

    ^^

    I concur.

A cool death though was that German pilot in ROTLA. Splattered all over the canopy of the plane by its propeller.

I also like how after that one guy chooses the wrong cup and disintegrates by aging, the knight says "he choose poorly". I always find that part funny.

It's gotta be the scuffle between Indy and Mola Ram on the broken bridge when the villain scorches his hand on the stone and falls awesomely to his death, where my brothers are waiting down below ready to tear him to shreds and roll over him in a real evil and peverse way!!!

    Go you GATOR'S!!!!!

The most fitting death was equal between Belloq, Toht, Mola Ram, and Donovan-- all were essentially equal in evil, and all met cruel deaths. Mola Ram had it the easiest, faling into a river and then attacked by gators; perhaps that wasn't enough for the character who was probably the most evil if you really think about it.

Definatly not Elsa. I don't think she deserved death. It wasn't actual greed that made her reach for the cup; Donovan wanted eternal life for himself, cared about nothing else. That's greed. Elsa wanted to just get it as an artifact, perhaps even save it from the chasm. She didn't want it for personal gain. Her mistake of siding with the Nazis to get it was wrong, but not enough to condemn her. It is obvious she is actually good by the way she reacts to Jones Sr. being shot, and the way she acts to defeat Donovan's evil. She redeemed herself there. Death was very unfitting.

Belloq, definitely. What could have been Indy's faith, was now his... fitting end for a thief.

LOL, yeah. That bit cracks me up.

I'd say Toht. Spent quite a while being mean and nasty to people, and he dies in what looks like a really painful way.

That's an interesting way to see it Capporegime. I agree Donov+an was real greedy. But I also was always under the impression Elsa was very greedy as well. A few things make me believe this. The first is back in Brunwald when she tells Indy "I would have done anything to get the Grail, you would have done the same." Anything includes risking her life to try and reach it in the end.

Also, the look in her eyes as they widen when she sees the cup on the ground after Henry is healed just has greed written all over it for me.And while she is reaching, she just seemed so obsessed with having the grail to the point where she ignores her slipping hand and Indy's pleas. (as I mentioned before the "I can reach it." line makes me think of how greedy she must be.

Maybe she didn't want it for herself per say but she wanted it for what it could bring (fame, money, glory, etc.) As Henry says, "Elsa didn't believe in the grail. She thought it was a prize."

Now I'm kind of an oddball about Elsa's death. See I believe it was fitting to her character by the way it happened (the scenario, actions, dialogue, etc.) But I'm on the fence on whether or not she actually deserved to lose her life. She was indeed not an evil person by the actions you mention before Capporegime (along with other parts like when the leader of the Cruciform Sword dies and her feelings at the Berlin ally.) At the same time, I'm always switching my mind on whether or not she should have been able to reach it or if her fall was the right choice. Either way, it's a good scene and a thought-provoking one as well.

Sorry about my rambling, but it's just cool that everyone has their own thoughts about movies and I'm just writing my own personal opinion.

And that coat hanger that looks like numchuks.

I just love that bit when he gets his face melted.

That guy was such a ****.

    'It's Beautiful!'

    'AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!'

    'EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!'

Oh, and that bit where he burns his hand on the head piece of Ra or something.

I think the death of Belloq and company is the most fitting death.
But the final battle with Mola Ram gave me one of my favorite Indy Lines. "Time to Meet Kali, Mola Ram....In Hell!".

The creepy Nazi in black from Raiders' has the best death- a gruesome and fitting end for a bad guy- although the little Nazi monkey lying dead under the fan after eating a poisoned date was also interesting and slightly amusing in a grim sort of way...

Toht had a great death at the end of Raiders. Even better than Belloq's IMO. He got what he deserved in this film.

Elsa's demise was just a fitting end for all that greed and betrayal. Not your regular Indy girl for sure.

It's gotta be Belloch. Doesn't he get his face melted by the Ark of the Covenant?

You're evil Belloch, the Ark knows it, we know it, hell, God knows it, ya gonna get pasted soon as ya open it.

    'Aaaaaaaarrrrggggghhhhh!!!!'

And that bad as hell nazi guy next to him with the cap on whos face gets horribly melted.

You can't say Elsa Schneider. We don't even know if she's actually dead.

'Elsha never really believed in the grail.'

True Mr Bond, but just 'cos she fell down a huge chasm though, does not mean she's dead and won't come back and reap her revenge on the world of the living by getting the cup 'o' Christ. So enough of the past tenses Connery.

Haven't you seen that film 'Touching the Void'? That guy made it out.

At least we know that Belloch is DEFINITELY dead. Reinacarnate from the wrath of God you evil Nazi!

'Course, That Mollo Ram guy from Temple of Doom was just cheesy wasn't he? We see a couple of guards get thrown of the rock before he dies. We then get a picture of some crocs chewin' inept henchmen. Then Mollo Rambo falls off and we see the same ***damn scene again, with the guy who plays Mollo Ram in the background going 'Aaaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!'.
    Not cool.

Mind you, the music in that film is bloody brilliant, especially when they first arrive and that wierd guy tells Indy how the palace took their children. Excellent bit of music in the background. Goes amazingly well with Harrison's expression.

Belloq and Toht had the best death scenes of the main villains.

    As for minor villains:

    - The Nazi monkey who eats the wrong date

    - the various characters played by Pat Roach (giant Sherpa, German mechanic and the Thuggee guard)

    - the Arab swordsman (can't forget that)

    - the Thuggee getting hanged by the fan in Temple. That scene tends to be overlooked.

I do like the fact that all of the main villains and many of the peripheral ones die horribly. Only the Fett family has a better history of dying like bee-yatches than the Indy baddies. I would rank these deaths as best or most fitting, 1-5:

1)(tie) Belloq, Toht, and assorted Nazis. I mean, seriously, it was the wrath of friggin' God that took 'em out.

    2) Mola Ram--burned hand, head scrape against the cliff on his way down to the gators waiting for their next meal. How f---ing violent is that?!

    3) The big Nazi mechanic who gets propellor-splattered against the swastika.

    4) The big Thugee guard (ladies and gentlemen, here again ... Pat Roach) who gets crushed rather gruesomely in the rock press. Just imagine your feet, than your knees, then your groin, and finally your midsection and chest going through that. I mean just imagine it!

    5) Donovan, drinking from the cup of eternal damnation.

That said, MOST GRUESOME DEATH would have to be the human sacrifice in "Temple of Doom." Heart ripped out and incinerated face first into a bath of molten lava.

And, finally, DEATH THAT I WAS ROOTING FOR: That little maharaja tool that kept stabbing the Indy voodoo doll. Damn, I wanted to see Short Round go all PG-13 on his @$$.
