Okay, I have some rather bad problems here. (n00b problems I am sure  )

Basically, I have used a program called "DVD Shrink 3.2 to rip some footage from my Star Wars DVD's as I am planning to create a music video. I did this fine, but the files it ripped it as were ".VOB" files. Obviously not much good to anyone, unless you want to just put them on another DVD. I read on a tutorial that you could simply alter the extension to ".mpg" with no problem. This was true. Once altered I can play the files in Windows Media Player no problem. I do however need to further edit the footage in a program called "Virtual Dub," unfortunately it is having none of it! The error reads "MPEG Import Filter: invalid pack at position 3: maker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream" This is all techno-babble to me. Can anyone help? I get a similar message from Windows Movie maker when I try to open it up in there... "C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\My Documents\Star Wars\VTS_02_1.mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from"

I sincerely hope you can help, because this music video will be "teH bEst evOOr!!11!1shift!!

    A. use VirtualDubMod

    B. Use a program to convert .vob to .mpg You can't just change the extension. I think DVD Decrypter is a good one to use.

    C. Or check, VirtualDubMod may support .vob files.

    D. If none of that works, find TMPGENC (spelling?)

Look up AGK (Auto Gordian Knot). I can't remeber exactly what files it can convert to, but I'm sure you'll then be able to convert that to AVI (which i know VD likes). Maybe Bink and Smacker.

Google those and you should get a result. Good Luck.

Rip your DVD's with DVD Decrypter, if you use that you should be able to rip the source .vob just fine. I can open all .vobs in VirtualDubMod no problem after using DVD Decrypter. I think DVD Shrink only rips sections of a vob not the full thing. I suggest DVD Decrypter, ive never had a problem.

Well, I decided to use Auto Gordian Knot. It appears to be doing the trick right now. Apparently that came with VirtualDubMod. I think I know what I'm doing. I hate downloading freeware though, especially ones that give you loads of different things to install on the setup screen, and you have no idea what they are...

    this is what you do

Use DVD decrypter do take the VOB files off the DVD

Use Virtual Dub mpeg-2 to open those VOB's then save then as AVI

(For some reason or another these avi dont like being imported to AE or Premiere)

Use Power Video Converter to export the AVI to another AVI, then they will work
