Nakedness

I hate to over-simplify, but I think it is largely attributable to the pervasive societal misconception that nakedness ALWAYS = sexuality. And, of course, that's not necessarily true....

 

Granted, I've no problem with the concept of nudity, but when you shake your stuff around for the sake of arousal, it takes away from any communication your actual SONG may have to do.

why? i don't understand that now and i never really have. at best, it's apples and oranges. i don't feel that way. i actually know a good number of people who dance around naked or what-have-you with some frequency and who are also brilliant professionals (neuroscientists, information theorists, artists, whatever) at the same time. there's no loss of credibility involved. the two don't have anything to do with each other.

Hell with that, I've been to nude beaches where there are old people.

It's not that "if so-and-so looks good, they should be able to walk around naked". If that's the case, we need to outlaw Speedos. No one looks good in them, not even my husband's stepfather, who is only 42 and has a nice shape.

i think more people need to see ugly people naked. you get over it really quickly.

Those that say people should not be allowed to walk around naked because old/ugly people might do so, forget that hot people might also do so.

I'm a huge fan of the TV Show SURVIVOR, and in Season 1 and the current ALL STARs season, we have been treated (?) to Richard Hatch, an openly gay man, somewhat overweight, whom is actually a member of some nudist society. And of course, we have been treated (?) to Richard Hatch parading around naked in virtually every episode of this ALL STAR season, as he has gone spear fishing while naked, and even speared several eels and a shark while spear fishing in the nude.

What does this mean?

I don't know!! It is funny to watch, though.

I believe Hatch responded to a question about this with something like, "It's 100 degrees. It's humid. Why should I wear clothes?"

My point exactly. Sensibilities aside, why should anyone have to wear clothes in unbearably hot weather? Other than not grossing others out or damaging some arbitrary "moral code", I can't think of any reason.

it gets very hot down here in brasil, and everybody is basically naked at the beach, or wearing as little as possible in the street. i mean there's the famous brazilian bikini, and there are plenty of less public beaches around rio de janeiro, where people can just go about naked. i go to one of these with some friends all the time, it's much more laid back, and quiet. and there's no risk of getting your tshoes or anything stolen! we go usually as 5 or six guys and girls, and just have a good time, smoking joints, drinking beers. this is always especially nice when it's extremely hot.

 

This goes hand-in-hand with a column I read concerning Howard Stern's recent removal from Clear Channel:

here's my two cents, i'm wiccan and occasionally i work skyclad. that is naked, and coven gather skyclad for their meetings. there is no shame, we feel free to worship as we do as we wish, free from trapings of everyday life.

Who wants to see naked men? Now, naked women, ok, no problem. I believe that women should opt for nakedness whenever the weather permits, but men should stay clothed. Better yet, men should be systematically eliminated....except me..

But science and modern medicine provide positive results. The invention of clothing has simply given moral crusaders a shield to hide behind when trying to impose their views on others.

By the way, as the manager of an adult video store, I have absolutely no problem with nakedness.

 

About the prospect of showing Christ naked in the Passion: This wouldnt be possible anyway because Jim Caviezel refuses to perform nude scenes due to his religious Catholic beliefs. In the movie with Ashley Judd, he wouldnt even show his backside. And I for one wouldnt want to see Caviezel scratched from the film just because he wouldnt pose nude. His performance as Christ was too good.

Forgive my ignorance -- and here's hoping that you yourself are Catholic, and can provide a detailed explanation -- but in what way does Catholicism dictate that its members cannot appear nude in a film?

 

LOL. I have no idea. You are asking the wrong person as I am an agnostic. I just heard them say somewhere in an article that it was against his religious beliefs, and I know he is Catholic. But I think there are atleast 2 different types of Catholicism.
