I need a name for a Sith. The name has to have a destructive or evil meaning. Any ideas?

I'll have to think about that one. Sounds like a Star Wars version of Dr. Evil. Maybe I can have a certain part where he demands 1 billion credits. Mwahhhh!

It's not that difficult, actually. Well, okay, it *is* difficult, but it's easier than coming with names out of thin air.

Anyway, for villians, basically find negative words (Evil, bad, darkness, etc.), and add/delete letters, making sure when you pronounce your new word, it still sounds very similar to the base word.

For example Drakaas sounds like Darkness, Olocause like Holocaust, and that kind of thing.

If you ever read Lord of the Rings, you would realize that Sauron and Mordor remind you of Sorrow and murder.

For her's, just try the same process, this time with positive words.

This is how I make up my character names, anyway.

    Darth Ahriman (evil spirit)
    Darth Brisha (an evil)
    Darth Daeva (evil spirit)
    Darth Keres (evil spirits)
    Darth Tarea (doing evil)
Darth Adaliah (one that draws death)
    Darth Ahimoth (brother of death)
    Darth Jarmuth (seeing death)
    Darth Thanatos (death)
    Darth Asura (a demon)
    Darth Daman (demon)
    Darth Aivur (father of fire)
    Darth Golnar (fire)
    Darth Incendio (fire)
    Darth Inferna (fire)

Okay, I admit that some of these are a little stupid, but they all have an evil meaning.

Oh, and Aneucah (sp?) I think that your method of choosing names is a great idea, subconsciously telling the reader about the character or place! Wish I'd thought of that!

Thanks, The_Standmaiden . I discovered this method while I was making up characters for a story I am currently writing. It really works.

By the way, just out of curiousity, I'll give you a name, and tell me how it sounds like to you:

    Darth Bhairunda (or)
    Darth Bhairava

    Well?

But why Sidhe? The Sidhe were the ancient Irish pantheon and pretty much good. Or did I just hallucinate that word into the post?
Sorry my obsession with Celtic stuff got the better of ME. ;) Here's a good trick: think up words with meanings relating to evil stuff and look them up in other languages. Maybe even tweak 'em a bit and you'll get great names.

Or you can use villians' or monsters' names from other sources (myths, legends, fairy tales, etc...) then spruce it up by adding or deleting or changing the spelling of the name.

    Examples:
    Darth Saran-Sauron from LotR
    Darth Maduza-Medusa from Greek mythology
    Darth Dragen-Dragon from Medieval legends

Also a great source of many different sounding names I've found is an atlas, it may not work so well with Sith names but it's pure gold for just coming up with a name you can Star warsify for a character.

Or you could do what GL does when making these up just play with whatever word has a funny ring to you.

Example: Senator Orn Free Taa resulted from George eating Corn Fritters one day and saying "Hey, Corn Fritter, Corn Free Taa, Orn Free Taa. Say that sounds good" [quickly jotts it down]

Taking a villainous race from another SF, you could use Darth Voord. :p

Or how about Darth Gimble? He could be played by Martin Mull and impale himself on his own lightsaber.

[For those too young to remember, Mull appeared on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman as Garth Gimble, who was impaled on an artifical Christmas tree. He then played Garth's twin brother Barth on Fernwood 2-night.]

    Some bad names for Sith:
    Darth Snookums
    Darth Cuddly Wuddly
    Darth Fuzzy Wuzzy
    Darth Care Bear
;) Each of these comes complete with a huge red X over it.

When I make up names, I just let my hand fall on the keyboard, then close my eyes and press a few more, the back and foreward button, and delete randomly. Then I work with what I have left, and decided if it's a nice name or an evil one.

    rlhsjrvawvj

    becomes:
    rlhasydhsaajvfaaahsavj

    becomes:
    lhasdhsavfaahsaj

    becomes:
    L'Has D'Shav Faasha

sounds like a twi'lek to me, a diplomat or something. Usually, I add more vowels and take out more consonants, but I liked this one.

    Whatever floats your boat. :)

The_Standmaiden : They're actually pronounced like 'Bh-i-rava' or 'Bh-i-roonda" - and they're supposed to be synonyms for "Demon."

I see! That's one of my big problems with books, I'm afraid. I always make up my own pronunciations! Some of them even have extra syllables added.

Sorry to bust everyone's bubble, but a Sith name MUST be in Latin. No kidding. Darth Vader, Darth Bane, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus... all of these names are a Latin phrase pertaining. I don't know all of them, but Darth Vader is something like Ultimate Evil. There are some exceptions, like Exar Kun, but he did't go by "Darth".
I came up with two Sith names, but they are from my fan fic, so DON'T STEAL THEM!
    Darth Irae (evil's wrath)
    Darth Furor (evil's fury)

Don't worry, I won't steal your Sith but I just want to clear something with you. The reason Exar Kun didn't use Darth was because the "Darth Days" came after Exar Kun. Darth was Darth Bane's first name. And after him, ever Sith used the Darth at the front of his name.

I found this formula where you take the first three letters of the name of your street and the last two letters of your surname. But often those don't work, ie, I have a friend who came out to be "Darth Meltz" which somehow doesn't sound Sithy enough. :)
