ST Jannah/Naomi Ackie in Episode IX

Yeah, but the pirate/ underworld stuff is more interesting, visually, and in terms of world-building, IMO.

 

C'moooon. You can't tell me that live action sprawling shots of Mandaloria wouldn't be amazing haha

 

I always thought it was odd that we have these OT characters and only one child resulted as the "next generation." Also, given that "Last Shot" gave us the impression that Lando did find "the one." And if you take into account the Mizzlewump spoilers, it seems it was their intention early on to have one of the ST main characters as a child of Lando - although it didn't pan out. It's possible they revisited that idea with Lando in IX.

 

I like the idea that as time has gone by, the Jedi have become sparser... Luke being the "last" Jedi and even he is a sort of pseudo-Jedi, self trained, ghost trained.

And now we are down to Rey, who is even further removed from the Old Jedi Tradition.

So, this movie is the Rebirth of the Jedi.
Rey gets it all going again, with new young Jedi flourishing and setting a base for new stories. Setting up a New Prequel Era, if that makes sense.

TLJ was all about Hope being almost snuffed out, but the spark was still there...

 

well um actually, if she were Lando's daughter they might have known one another. Lol.

 

This is gonna be super awkward on the Falcon... He knows way too many people lol.

 

Last Shot novel sets up Lando potentially marrying and having had kid. It would be funny if she was Lando's daughter and had blue hair from the Twi'lek genes.

 

I wonder who she could be.

I'd prefer her to be totally human.
There's enough flack about casting Lupita as an orange alien and the only black woman of significance before that was a Twi'lek dancer in ROTJ. Oh and the green alien Jedi in the PT.
So, no interest in her being even half twi'lek. Time to move past this type of casting completely, imo.

 

What a beauty! I'm positive she will not be cast as anything but a human. If not, why cast specifically a female of African descent?

 

Because Kathleen Kennedy is running the show and there's no main black female character in Star Wars yet. Search your feelings, you know it to be true. Hopefully unlike Rose she's actually a good character which is all that matters.

 

I like Rose and I am sure I will like Naomi's character too. She seems very charismatic! I secretly hope she's Finn's sister.

 

While I absolutely agree that we need to see a main black female character in future films, Kathleen was LFL President when Solo was made, which featured a very human Thandie Newton being as awesome as she always is. And, of course, we have the casting call. So it’s absolutely possible and likely that Naomi will be human in IX. Search your cynicism, you know it to be false.

 

Yes, there's a lack of black woman in Star Wars especially when they play human (there was Val but she had 5 minutes of screen and died)

I agree, and hope and expect that’s not the case here. I was just responding to the assertion that it’s likely Naomi will be playing an alien. I think that’s very unlikely.

 

That would be funny!

 

Look at the eyes and nose...very similar for two unrelated characters.

 

I only hope she's related to Finn because his past was mentioned by John and I got the impression we might learn more in the future about Finn.
