There are a number of places in Hendersonville that we could all get together. There is a park called "sanders ferry park" that has some picnic areas and also has boat ramps as its located on the lake. there are remote control airplane fields there as well and plenty of room for animals and kites.I will have to find out but i believe that there is a big building that has cookout places and electricity(tv-vcr!)
Another place in H'ville is a park where they have a large kids playground and a cookout area overlooking the lake but no launching area. I can scope them out and let you know.I believe that both areas can accomodate alot of people.hendersonville is only 30(or so) minutes from cool springs and nashville.

Has anyone looked at centennial park?
i hadnt heard.I believe that would be the easiest and most centrally located place for everyone to meet.Im not sure about areas for us to meet though.

I don't think we can cookout at Centennial park. We would have to bring KFC or something.

How about Radnor Lake? That's off of Old Hickory and relatively central to both people in North Nashville & those of us Down in Franklin, & Spring Hill. Crockett Park in Brentwood is also really cool.

Unfortunately, Hendersonville would be good haul for many.

The only park I know of that has just about everything we could want in a park including boating would be Henry Horton State Park, but I think that is too far to travel to just have a cookout. Maybe sometime we'll go there to play golf, as the golf course is decent and pretty cheap to play too.

I just went to Crockett Park in Brentwood just off of Wilson Pike & I think it might make a great place to have a cookout. They also allow pets (on leashes of course). There's also a baseball field, soccer field, tennis courts, football area, a creek, & paved hiking/ biking trails. Unfortunatley , there are no places to do any kind of boating or jet skiing. I wish this place was a little more centrally located though to Nashville. Any other suggestions?

It is a few miles after the Briley Parkway/Opryland exit on I-40 east. Dylan is walking distance. [face_laugh]

I just looked at their website and it looks like fun. However, it doesn't mention having your own cookouts. It just mentions if you have a group of 50 or more having your event catered per their menu (which I'm sure is pricey). You also have to make reservations, which I would be surprised if they weren't booked solid through the summer.

Perhaps we just scrap the cookout, just go to Nashville Shores Park, have fun, and everybody is on their own as far as food is concerned.

    How does that sound?

If you want more information, go to NASHVILLESHORES.COM

Let me all know what you think. :)

nashville shores doesnt have a place to have your own cookouts.you have to pay to get in.
If the hermitage/priest lake area is good for everyone then there is a park next to the percy priest dam.The dam is just across the water from nashville shores.I believe there are areas for cooking and messing around(fishing, kites, etc).Im not to far to go check it out and report back.Or maybe jedichic could, i believe shes in hermitage.

To get to nashville shores and the park/lake/dam from nashville take 40 east heading toward knoxville.about 10 miles out youll see the dam on your right.exit at the "hermitage" exit and take a right.about 1 mile down youll stop and have to turn left or right.take a right.go about 1 mile and your at the entrance to nashville shores. or go another mile and your at the dam.

I just picked up a little tabletop grill 2 weeks ago for my sons birthday party/cookout we had.I cooked hotdogs for about 25 people on it at the park.i can bring that and a bag of charcoal.I also just bought a 12x12 screened tent i could bring for additional shade.

I went to nashville shores a few years ago for my wifes co. picnic.its cool but im not interested in going back.

Hopefully we can work it out.Ill be glad to pick up some food at sams for us.We got packages of 30 hotdogs(goodkind) for 3.50 there and they also have boxes of like 40 burgers for 10.00.

I vote that scott doesnt have to bring anything since hes done so much already.

Can you check this out for us Skip? It sounds good to me if it has all the cookout amenities we need. Thanks for offering your grilling services. That would probably work out great. Just let us know if you think the park will do. It's unfortunate that Hama has to work on Sundays. Either Saturday or Sunday would be fine for me, but it appears that many people are partial to Sunday. Let's try for around 1:00- 1:30. That will give people some time to get home from Church, change, and travel there.

Scott, just to be fair, why don't you start a poll asking whether Saturday the 22nd or Sunday the 23rd is a better day. For everyones vote to count, they have to post which one they voted for. Make sense? :)

I will try to get by there this saturday.ill try to scope out the area and report my findings.any other suggestions of locations should still be voiced.are there any certain things needed?ill look for bathrooms ,tables, parking, shade & everything

I want to make sure that everyone that wants to come can. I dont want anyone that may not be able to afford admission somewhere to miss out. I know everyone goes through different financial times in their lives and anyone that cant afford to bring anything doesnt need to. These are fun times and just like a family or church we will all come together to have a good time.I personally want to see people show up! if we can nail down a time and place then we can start a list of whos coming and what they can bring.

I believe the odds are more people can make it on sunday.Hopefully we can work this out and have a nice day.

I forgot to mention earlier that my wifes work has an ice machine that the employees can use anytime.I can get a cooler full of ice on the way there so thats covered.

in case no-one knows the cheapest place to get buns and bread is "Aldi's".there is one in hendersonville and they have packs of buns for less than 50 cents.

I also wanted to ask if there was an agenda or anything to be covered at this get together?i personally would like to see the props and weapons that everyone has been working on and im sure alot of you have been out buying up the stores since the movie came out.maybe we could have a "show and tell" theme.i also want to hear about any upcoming fan-film projects and fall/halloween is just a few months away.just some suggestions.

    anyway,im going to bed.
    talk to ya later

I really didn't forsee an agenda for this get together. If y'all want to bring things thats perfectly fine, but this is just a social gathering to have some summer fun and enjoy each others' company. All our meetings this year have had agendas mostly revolving around the Episode II line-party, so I thought this would be a nice diversion from any set meeting purpose. If people wanted to bring pictures from the Celebration, that would be cool too.

If someone has a digital camera & are planning on going to the cookout, can you bring it please to record this event?

I'll check a couple of places here out...I do live right near the lake, it's practicly in my backyard! I know there is a park like area, I have not seen grills... I'll check the other side near elm hill entrance and see if there is a park or something... I'll post my findings!

ok so I saw nowhere near the lake on my side that has an area for grilling... I can't imagine there is not a park centrally located with ammenities like grills and bathrooms... not even in Franklin or cool springs? It's a ways from me but seems like such a family orenited area...

    Hey everyone,
i took a little drive over to hermitage today to check out our options.
Right next to the Percy priest dam is a little park but jedichic is correct ,it does not have what we want. However 1.5 miles down the road there are 2 parks.
One is called hamilton creek park.i knew that one was there because it is located next to the BMX track i used to race at.it is only 3 miles from the interstate and has lots of parking, its on the lake and has tables and restrooms.im bringing my grill so no problem there. It was quiet there today so i wouldnt expect alot of people there unless there happens to be a race but even then theres plenty of space.it had alot of shade and a very nice open place where everyone could hang out near the lake.
the other is Elm hill recreation area.it is about 1.5 miles from the intersate.these parks are so close you could almost see the other.anyway,it is much bigger with alot more tables and plenty of shade.you can also go swimming at this park.my son and i saw a big group of people going up a trail with a big "danger" sign.we stopped and walked up to see what was going on.we were about 50 feet from the park and heard a big "smack"splash" and everyone started laughing there were people "cliff diving"!
apparently a girl had jumped off and landed on her back, ouch!it was about a 4 story drop and a big group of boats had gathered around to watch the "nuts" jump off.he hung out for a little while and watched.it was great!

anyway, either of these 2 places will be fine and very easy to find for anyone as they are both located on bell road ,only minutes from the interstate.i would recommend either place.hamilton creek park should be quiter but elm hill rec. ctr will be happening.

I hope this helps,i had a fun day just checking them out.

ps:i just watched yoda's battle a couple of times and i still think it looks like a video game!

Elm Hill sounds fine to me. Whatever you think Skip. Let's just go ahead and plan on either one of these and start discussing who is bringing what. Thanks for your help! :)

yes, lets plan on going to "elm hill recreation area" the park has an odd layout so i will make a simple map we can email everyone to show them how to get around.
there is also a boat ramp for jet skiis!

i will start a new thread for the list but for now heres whatI am planning on bringing:

    grill/charcoal
    cooler full of ice
    screened 12x12 shadetent

i will bring more depending on what is needed.i would also recommend everyone bring a blanket/tarp for the ground and any fold out chairs you might have.
I can set up my tent near the tables and anyone who needs to can sit inside.
we could use the table for laying out the food on and then everyone could set up their own areas around it.if anyone has a fold out table that would be good too.

So who is all planning on coming? If you are currently planning on coming, please post your intention. Thanks. :)

BTW, what we can do is everyone will bring their own burger, chicken breast, ribs, etc... to grill, but we also need people to volunteer to bring things like soda, chips condiments etc... So, when you post your intention to attend, please also post what you can bring IN THIS THREAD. we'll keep a running record of supplies there.
