If the Nationalities of Earth [Asian, Hispanic, American, Europian, etc.] were in Star Wars, what would they be? Here's my list:

    1: Asian-Twi'lek
2: Hispanic-Rodian [I'm Hispanic, and I like Rodians, and I think its just kind of Mexiacn]
    3: American-N/A
    4: Europian-Bothans

What else [like Polish or Indian]?

Well, Bothans have French accents in X-Wing Alliance. Villie had a horrible accent in Galactic Battlegrounds, his voice was nothing like I imagined it.

Also, I'm not sure what you're referring to. If you're talking to traits associated with various races on earth and SW, or if you're talking about accents. Either way, your list doesn't really work.

I was more thinking culture. I mean Anciant culture, modern culture is different then what I expected.
I saw Shanghai Noon yesterday, and thought about the ponytail thing Jackie had, and he called it a Qeu, kinda like lekku [the Ku sound]
I thought about how the Bothans are very poloticial, and how the anciant Angleland (saw that fast, thats how england was formed) was reather poloticial, but maybe I was wrong about that.
The rodian thing was just the whole greedo thing in a bar, kinda like a Mexiacn movie where the people are in the bar... I'm 1/3 hispanic and I like rodians, and something about the rodians make me think of Mexicans (read the guide to specias)
If you think differently, just tell me what you think.

"Poloticial?" I think you mean "political," son.

And think of how offensive this thread is when you equate people of other nationalities and races with non-humans.

    Well, they are zealots...

Oh, and it's just "Afgan", not "Afgani". "-istan" means "home of the". "Afganistan" means "Home of the Afgan".

Well, they remind *me* of the Yuuzhan Vong sometimes...I mean they call us "infidels" for one thing...
The whole "kill all the Jeedai" thing reminds me of their hatred for Jewish people, but that's just my opinion..but maybe I shouldn't jump into a conversation about race.I don't want to compare anyone to anything, it's just..well...not nice.

Maybe I was a little too harsh before, at least towards the wrong person. The blame lies with the creator of Star Wars. Equating other nationalities and their sickening stereotypes with aliens is a racist practice George Lucas himself practices.

Trade Federation= Japanese. Their accents are unquestionably Japanese. They have slanted eyes. They are a sea/spacefaring culture of merchants. They conspire and launch a sneak attack, even though they are cowardly physically weak. They use techonological superiority to invade their enemies.

Toydarians=Jews. Semitic accents. Slave traders. A race of greedy swindlers in league with criminals. Not violent, but completely untrustworthy.

Hutts= Italians. A race of gangsters. Chauvenistic. Fat. Huttese sounds much like a Romantic language, and is spoken loudly.

Gungans= Blacks. Wide-eyed and easily startled. Speak in slang and mispronounced words. Primitive. The word "binks" is associated with rabbits, as are long, floppy ears. Rabbits are, in turn, associated with African Americans, by the folk hero Brer Rabbit and by a certain racial epithet.

Ewoks= Vietnamese. The "Evil Empire" invades an arboreal wilderness, and a backward land of primitives becomes a major battleground between good and evil.

Rebels= Americans. They're mostly white, save for a few minorities (to prove they're accepting of diversity.) They believe in freedom, and assert their independence from tyranny. They speak American English.

Naboo= Early Americans. Fight against unfair taxation. Don't get fair representation in the legislature. Wear poofy shirts and tights. Some speak American English, some retain British accent. Initially prejudiced against those they share their land with, a sneak attack will eventually bring the two races together.

Tuskens= Native Americans. Violent savages which attack the "civilized" colonists, they have their own unique code of honor. Superstitious. Speak a language nobody can understand.

It's not a part of Star Wars we like to think about, but it is there. Attributing racist stereotypes to alien races, and thus equating these groups, is not unique to Star Wars. You can make similar comparisons in Star Trek.

Klingons= Blacks. Large, violent, dark skin. Mostly black actors.

Ferengi= Jews. More greedy swindlers. Short, big ears and noses. A culture of merchants. Mostly Jewish actors.

Vulcans= Asians. Slanted eyes, very stoic, rarely show emotion. Known for quoting proverbs. Technologically advanced. Thick, dark hair.

the cat: your last post has so many stereotypes in it... i find it disgusting.

this whole thread is ridiculous. trying to apply nationality qualities to made up species. are we serious??

and all the antiafganistan talk is also ridiculous.

This is one thread that's totaly damn funny. Any thread that seems "offesive" to some is always funny. I laught my ass off when I see people getting "offended". BTW, here are my thoughts on the accents of a couple of species.

    Toydarians = Italian accent
    Ewoks = Pakistan accent

If anyone takes any "offense" to these I don't mean any. To me these species sort of sound like these accents.

I find it disgusting too. To fight racism you have to first admit that it exists.

Actually their accents are unquestionably Thai.

Isn't it more offensive to have every character speak/look like a straitlaced white dude, as opposed to reflecting the actual makeup of our own planet in fiction? And if you see slanted eyes and immediately think "Japanese"..well, who's the real racist?

UCLAmaster, The Cat says in the beginning of his post that he has no love for this practice of encouraging expanding steriotyping fictional races in sci fi material.

P.S. - the Ewoks are actually speaking a dialect of Cantonese indiginous to western Mongolia.

P.P.S. - Afghan does not, as someone so eloquently put it, "= terrorist!". Many Afghan people don't give a damn one way or the other about the sacred jihad. The only reason they're pissed at America right now is because they're getting the hell bombed out of them. It's like saying "Russian = Communist soldier!" as my country was so well known for doing some years ago. I thought we'd learned to do better than that. But I guess that's just me, speaking as a member of a generation that hasn't grown up fearing the "Evil Empire".
