LOL! I know I've feared for the smart people ever since my friend Jess loaned me Idiocracy.

We have to find a way to trick the stupid people into castrating themselves... "Look how much money you can save--wait, look how big of a Hemi you can buy if you don't have any kids!"

So today is the first day of the new semester. I log in to my online Entrepreneurship class, and there is next to nothing there. No syllabus posted, no assignments, reading, etc.

After posting basically a WTF thread, I find out that our teacher resigned last week and they had to scramble to find a replacement teacher. Heh, this should be interesting.

...oh yeah, I almost fell asleep while typing this. I looked at my screen and wondered why the cursor was moving without me toughing the mouse, then I realized it was my finger on the space bar................................ =P~ [face_hypnotized] I-)

I was basically approached for a possible job that would pay me almost $20,000 more a year than what I'm making now....

....I'm not gonna lie and say I'm not tempted.

I wouldn't think too hard about it. Just do your due dilligence on it before burning any bridges.

Apparently, a business analyst I got to know at Godiva is now a VP at Bank of America. But they must have many thousands of VPs there...

My old temp agency called me yesterday afternoon to let me know of a job possibility with Company T as a circuit provisioner. Company T is one of the companies that I really wanted to work for, and they'd actually made me a job offer in another capacity (as a MOP Coordinator), but by the time they made an offer, I'd already started this job and been here for two days, and they weren't offering enough of a salary difference to make it worth trashing my reputation to walk out after two days.

The job that the temp agency told me about is circuit provisioning (which I have always loved to do)....and....the salary difference would be almost $20,000 a year more.

The downside? I'd be a temp. They do say it's temp to perm, and Company T does have a good reputation for following through on that, but I won't deny that the thought of being a contractor again makes me a little nervous.

The other problem is, I'm not unhappy with this job. I like my boss, I like my coworkers, it's very laid back, I'm learning something different, and I *can* manage on the salary I'm getting, but it's less than what I made at my last job before it (by $10,000).

The other thing to consider is this: Company T is a telecommunications carrier company. Where I'm at right now isn't. And on either side, this could be good or bad--on one hand, telecom has gotten better, but after the last couple of years, I'm gun-shy. On the other hand, where I am *isn't* a telecom company, it's a bill paying company, and I primarily make sure our client's telecom bills are accurate. Company T is a large force in Denver, so if I wanted to move around in a few years, I probably could.

Where I'm at right now....ours is a remote office of six people, the company HQ is in Washington State. I have to admit I have wondered about "What happens in a few years if I want to do something else? Will they let me do that from this office, or would I have to move to Washington to do a new job in this company?"

So in short: NOT being in a telecom company might be safer, but it also keeps me out of the loop.

Not to mention....I didn't think leaving a new job after two days was worth it for $6000 a year more (I'd barely see that in my weekly paychecks), but is it worth it to leave after four months for $20,000 a year more? (Reputation wise, I mean?) Would most potential employers think, "Oh yeah, this other company offered you that much more money, you had to go for it," or would they think, "She still walked out of a job after four months."

I'll be honest--I know part of the reason I'm nervous about thinking about it at all is:

1.) I'm not unhappy with my current job, boss, or coworkers. The job is good, and I can kind of get away with a lot here.

2.) I don't know about being a contractor, even for a little while.

3.) As bad as telecom was, I don't want to risk trashing my reputation.

The reasons I'm nervous about not thinking about trying are:

1.) I'm not sure of how I could advance in my current company.

2.) I do really like, and have always excelled at circuit provisioning.

3.) I lost a lot of my savings with all the unemployment, and making $20,000 a year more would be a big help for saving for retirement. I know 37 sounds young to be worried about it, but it's coming up faster than what I think.

Granted, I haven't told them that I might consider going for it myself, and there's no gaurantee I'd get it if I did. But I'm wondering....

    I'll be blunt.

    1. It's never too late to start worrying about having money later on. **** happens, and sometimes you actually need to use that money.

    2. Didn't you work like 8 different jobs last year? And you're getting cold feet about starting...what...job #4 this year? Or did you get shell shock from all the job hopping?

LOL--well, I worked at Company A as a temp, went to Company B as a temp, then was hired on permanent, just as Company A bought Company B, so I wound up back at Company A and got laid off from there in late March.

Since I've only survived the past couple of years from temping at one job or another, yeah, I'm kind of shell shocked from forced job hopping.

    Dear T,

Just because they live next door to you, it doesn't mean they're obliged to be your friends. If they want to keep to themselves and aren't causing any problems, then leave them the hell alone.

And if I had a next door neighbor like you always trying to get in my face, I'd be going out of my way to not say hi to you either.

OK, I have made an important decision. I am gonna get married, and I am gonna get married in Kansas just for the freaking entertainment value.

My friends Susi and Bruce are getting married in Kansas City, Kansas the Sunday of Labor Day weekend (anybody wanna take a road trip with me to the Ren Faire and split gas and hotel room so I can hopefully afford to go? ::batting eyes::). Susi had called the county in question and asked if she could download the marriage license forms needed from a website or if they could be faxed to her.

She was told no, that she had to drive up to Kansas City and pick up the forms in person, and that she must drop them off in person.

This is a bit annoying to Susi, since she and Bruce live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but she did indeed drive up to get the forms, and filled them out there under a government worker's eye to make sure she had it right and didn't have to come back and do it again. Susi happens to think out loud, saying, "Well, Bruce is leaving for a business trip, so it'll be a week before I can get these back with his signature..."

....and she was promptly informed that she is allowed to sign Bruce's name on the marriage license for him, as long as she knows his 1.) Full name, 2.) Date and place of birth, 3.) Social Security Number, and 4.) Parents' names.

I find that....rather interesting. In this day and age of identity theft, that's information *I* could get if I were so inclined (and I can think of a few exes that I *do* have that information on), and the state of Kansas is apparently blatantly encouraging forgery.

I'm just really tempted to run across the border to Kansas and fill out a marriage license with some guy's info, just to see if I can get away with it. So if anybody here suddenly gets something in the mail about his wife when he believed himself to be single, then you know I pulled it off. [face_laugh] [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

My baby is in the hospital.
    :_|
By baby I mean my mac laptop, and in the hospital I mean has been sent off to the authorities at Apple to try to be repaired.
I think it was a faulty power wire inside the machine because if you inverted it and tapped on the back, it would boot the rest of the way up. Weirdest thing ever.

So now I have to go to its older sister to get work done. At least the PC has the CS suite. I'm not entirely outdated in that area. Not having my laptop at school is weird though. I can't instantly look subjects up that my professors obscurely reference then don't explain, even if questioned. (my Imperial Russia professor has a reputation for doing that. Funny thing is that this is the third time I've had him, but not by intention)

That makes night #2 of working late on this project and I don't feel burnt out.

I wonder how long this will last. Not like I don't have 2 other projects to work on, as well as a bunch of video games collecting dust. [face_plain]

I did get an hour of Quake Wars in, though. My personal goal for the night was to see how many people I could kill with a car instead of a rail gun. Turns out...that number is quite a bit.

I am on call for the third week in a row this week...

It's not a big deal, just adds a layer of stress on that I don't really enjoy.

hopefully me being on call for the better part of this month will make them not put me on call during september :)

My cell for work has been plugged in for the past few days since I kept having conference calls and I didn't want it to go dead (and I didn't feel like unplugging it). The cord runs from a power strip 2 feet away from my desk, past the rancor laying on the floor, and then onto my desk. Every single time I picked up the phone, somehow the cord was tangled in the rancor. The last time it had the cord in its teeth. Since I have been untangling it every time and no one has been near it, I am worried that the rancor was trying to eat the cord.
