So apparently, Johnathan Frakes may direct Star Trek 4.

I wonder how JJ feels about Frakes letting this out into the public.

Either he doesn't care, which means it is probably a non-starter and non-story.

    or

He is ticked, which means Frakes doomed his chances.

    or

He is cool with it, meaning the deal is nearly done.

    ---
    So

That is about a 67% chance of Frakes not going anywhere near another Star Trek Film.

    I'd bet on that.

    ---

Bet more on Kelvin 4 never happening.

    Cursed, it be.

Frakes has consistently been the best director of the franchise in recent years - and he did some excellent work in the old days. I've wanted him to direct another Trek movie for years - and him helming a Kelvin movie would almost automatically make it the best one of the bunch.

Unfortunately I have a hard time seeing JJ Abrams take him up on it.

I will readily confess that I am surprised that a fourth Kelvinverse film is even being talked about. We have five good to excellent series in production more or less all at once. It’s not like Star Trek is really desperate for good content.

Watching Prodigy feels like watching Voyager. It's not good Trek, but it's not consistently bad enough to just quit watching.

I love pretty much everything Kristie Alley does in Wrath of Khan, but if I had to pick a favourite she comes out the gate strong with her stuff in the Kobayashi Maru simulator. "I'm aware of my responsibilities, Mister." But mainly I love the Vulcan poise and perfect posture how she falls into the command chair and immediately hits the comms

Kirstie Alley was great in Wrath of Khan. The original concept for TUC was that it was supposed to be that it’s Saavik who betrays the Federation. I would have liked to see Kirstie Alley play that, except she didn’t want to do another Star Trek movie.

Nicholas Meyer sure liked to have the Enterprise beaten up (proverbially speaking), didn't he? First, the Reliant and then the cloaked Bird of Prey.

I think his deal was "no sacred cows allowed".

He wasn't going to make the Enterprise out as the perfect, indestructible vessel.

And the crew was not impervious to harm (See Spock's Death)

He had stories with real stakes you could feel.

Andrew Robison dishing on Garak’s relationship with Bashir. Possibly NSFW. So yeah, Garak definitely wanted to shag Bashir.

    Harm's Way

Trek books are quite a bit more finite in number these days so it's nice to have one come along. And one I got a good few weeks ahead of its official mid-Jan 2023 release.

A bonus is that it is a follow-up to the Vanguard series. Do you have to read that to enjoy this? No, Mack ensures you have the info you need but if you're not intrigued to check it out after hearing that a Shedai colony was deemed a severe enough threat to warrant the Federation and the Klingon Enpire turning a world into zero atmosphere globe of radioactive glass, not sure what else would work.

This story also sees Kirk and Spock dealing with scars from recent TV tales. Spock's reflections on what it would require, personally, psychologically, materially to actually construct and use a planet-killer are excellent. Makes for a clever commentary on Star Wars too.

Add in Kang, a load of Klingons, some Starfleet Admirals, the Saggitarius and you've a nicely volatile brew that develops nicely and concludes well.

Can I haz a sequel pleez?

@Jedi Ben, wait really? The Federation full stop glassed a planet?! I could see the Klingons doing that but never Starfleet.

Yep. they did it. Read the Vanguard series and you'll understand exactly why it was done.

2 players/teams...first one every three seconds to name the episode gets a point.

Nerds who know episode order shall rock this!

I recognized at least half those clips, but there was a surprising number that were pure "Huh?"
