I’ll probably check this out to get a little feel of the galaxy post-TROS.
Plot sounds like it could be a fun read.

Wonder if this book will reveal the new leader of the First Order, or at least one of its remnants. Mitaka has good chances.

    Love love love this.

I’ve been wanting to see Jannah used more. I hope they explore her relationship with Lando. I liked the thought of her being a proxy for his lost daughter in that abandoned plot point from TROS.

I bet it will be more fun adventure than give any real updates on the galaxy besides dealing with any FO remnants. They probably don't want to contradict anything that will come in the Rey NJO movie, which might not be finalized until at least filming finishes there.

they had the post TROS galaxy mapped out since TFA... yet when reception to the ST was bad they could not follow through with the original plan to develop post ROTJ and post ST in paralell connected till another trilogy of 10-12. I am curious if they stick to the original plan now and hope the ST will find more love years later like the PT did.

I am glad Finn is no Jedi here. And I bet they wait till he and Jannah get close only to reveal they are siblings lol in true SW fashion.

It was leaked on starwarsleaks back in the day that they planned to develop both eras paralell. The ST might have ended less final and with Kylo alive and still on the Dark Side and him and Rey facing off again in a post-ST trilogy. Kinda like the time between TLJ and TROS but way longer.
Not much is known about that but this and there was a graphic leaked that showed this paralell visually.

While not sure who leaked it or if fake or not, to me at least it made sense for something they would have wanted to do.

    That sounds very fake.

I can't see the sense in developing both post-ROTJ and post-TROS at the same time as it would get narratively quite confusing or redundant.

Kylo still alive and still dark, leading to another Kylo vs Rey trilogy… that’s the most ridiculous part.

I've been trying to find a certain, lengthy Youtube video examining and inferring the original plans, particularly right around the time Episode VIII was about to come out, but this is somewhat new to me, yes.

The thrust was that Abrams was pushing a nostalgia angle fairly hard, Johnson was supposed to shake things up more, and Treverrow was supposed to do more with the Force and the legacy angle. Right after TLJ came out (not before) seemed to be a major internal swerve, and Rey's origins was potentially one of the victims of that move.

Hard to find solid proof at the time, but the video was very detailed... I'd appreciate it if somebody could maybe find it again, too?
Certainly the bits about Kylo I find brand new here. I also didn't finish the video in question all the way.

One thing I would like to see from this novel, althought it is a high ask, is more explanation for how the First Order operated. The novels and comics have so far attempted to explain this, but I still can't shake the feeling that there's something unbelievable about it. The Empire and Rebels were believable The Republic and Separatists were believable because Lucas wrote them to fit with the evolution of the later Empire. But the FO still lacks... credulity? They seem rediculously overpowered. One of the best parts of TROS, which is a film I hate with a burning passion, is the idea of kids being stolen and indoctrinated as soldiers. That plot had potential. It could really develop the FO into something unique -- yes, the Empire had indoctrination programs, but what if the FO really leaned hard into that idea? This novel has the potential to show how the FO used a heinious method to become insanely powerful in a short time, besides riding the tediously dull "it was Palpatine" explanation.
