Jello presents... The NEW New Essential Guides to Vehicles and Vessels, now with more vehicles and vessels!

Yeah, SFS is the military branch of Santhe/Sienar, which actually does produce civilian things.

My favorite corporation, I'd have to say, is Cygnus Spaceworks. I picture them like Ferrari, producing the cutting-edge vehicles and also providing upgrades and modifications to more mundane vessels.

Well my fellow Fleet Junkies, we did it. :D

Congrats to all who helped bring this thread to 10,000 posts. We have sure come a long way from the little thread I posted on the Endurance-class fleet carrier which ended up spawning this thread. :)

As for SW companies that compare to RL, we need to remember Koensayr. According to the NEGVV, 1 out of every 6 ships in the GFFA have a part made by them.

instersting theory of mine, the ship there is an eidolon strike cruiser (below the dominator), now those funky strikeish ships in EAW tend to look a lot like that... curious what they are actually calling them?

Yay! The Fleet Junkie thread is now one of the biggest on TFN, and probably one of the largest (if not the largest) non-social, pure discussion/analysis threads on the Jedi Council Forum. I would say we certainly represent the Star in Star Wars. Congrats to all on excellent discussion, debate, and analysis. :D

We finally did it! We finally did it?

Are there any design flaws to the Eidolon that prevented it from being mass produced?

Maybe structural. The standard Strike cruiser has some problems with their modular hull, maybe the Eidelon type's frame was unstable.

Wohooo! Long live the Fleet Junkies (not that I helped much, but still...it's fun to read) ! :)
Something that makes me wonder is what happened to the ship designers that worked for CIS? Not the companies, the employes themselves. Were they send to Kessel, did they work for say...KDY or were they just terminated?

The Eidolon may have been a prototype that was never mass produced (nor was it intended to be), but others with the same external design have been sighted in various engagements. The EAW ships may be similar, but we already know that the "Eidolon-class" have been seen in Battleground: Tatooine, a cover of Mandatory retirement (as seen above), and in Tales: Routine. So the design has been used, but not as much as the "standard" Strike Cruiser seen in the X-wing games.

On a side note, there are actually quite a few Strike Cruiser design variants seen in the EU. The WEG RPG has at least two physical variations---the one everyone knows from the ship size chart and another slightly different one from original art. Then there's the X-wing "Eidolon version" and the standard video game version, which is identical to the WEG design. The Shadows of the Empire comic has a really weird looking Strike Cruiser, too. There's even a SC that can be modified to go underwater, if you can believe GoDV. o_O And that's not including the internal modification variants (garrison deployment, fighter carrier, troopship, etc.)

    10,000!

Unless those variants are not internal, but actually external. Strikes are designed to be multipurpose, so different appearances are easy to explain.

    Excellence:

Yes, there has been a periodic census on the total number of Fleet Junkies on these boards. I used to keep a list going in our early days, but when our numbers suddenly exploded I began to lose count. I feel that around 40 or so individuals have added the term "Fleet Junkie" or some variation of it to their sigs since this thread began. Granted some of these people do not post in the thread much anymore, but it does give you an indication of our numbers.

Not only that, but the term "Fleet Junkie" itself has become so common that it is used regularly in other threads, by Mods, and even has poked it way up in other boards. If I have some time over the next few days I will try to compile a roster, but this will require me to do some digging in the threads past.

Of the original bunch of us, only a handful remain. Myself, FTeik (Who is a FJ but he has no room to add it to his sig), Pelranius, and Ton_G are the only original Junkies that still post. Brett_Bass, Warlord_Ken, Joruus, RaptorRage, and other oldies have mostly disappeared, though I notice they make cameos from time to time. :)

BTW, in looking over old posts, here is a goodie of yours from page two of this thread:

"I was going to manufacture a thread like this, to generate discussion on these newer capital ships, but didn't want to cause another page in history like the Super Star Destroyer Wars."

    -Excellence, 6/07/03 :D

We have definately come close at times, but we most definately are a few steps above those SSD war pages and debates. ;)

ugh EAW has started making up ships to annoy us again

    some new shots

    http://www.sw-eaw.de/bild.htm?bc=0&showcat=5&eintrag=48

anyway, the rebel podge is called an assault frigate MKII

the strike cruiserish thing is a 'tartan cruiser'

there is a ship that looks like a cross between a demolisher frigate and a liberator cruiser simply called a 'broadside frigate'

Actually, it simply means 'one who commands'. Gaius Marius, Julius Cæsar, and Cornelius Sulla (to name a few) were hailed Imperatores despite having never been when is now known as 'Roman Emperor'.

The Imperator = Emperor is a forced translation.

Seem to recall the Great Roman General Scipio Africanus (the first) was hailed also as Imperator by the Spanish as the Romans were uneasy with the title King for obvious reasons.
