Maybe when someone releases something worth seeing I'll go to a movie this year.

Okay, Grindhouse looked interesting... too bad it was only in theatres for about 5 minutes.

Superman Returns... oh, what's that? I'm hearing that this film was out last year. Who knew :p

Well, in my years, it's still 2006. Because I've seen about 3 movies in theatres all of 2007 due to back problems :( But Pan's Labyrinth was definitely the best.

300 - The production design for this movie was just so amazingly cool. I loved it.

Pirates III - Loved this too.

So far this year I've seen TMNT, 300, Breach, Primeval, Pirates 3, and Die Hard.

    In order:

#1: Breach. Cooper is just plain unsettling in this. :p

#2: 300. Way to remind people what western civ is all about: cutting up evil foreigners. :p

#3: TMNT. Childhood nostalgia at its greatest. I was planning on going home, saw it was at the theatre, and was like "well, I guess I don't have to leave just yet..."

#4: Primeval. I've always been a fan of films about giant animals eating people (I watch the sci-fi channel regularly :p) and this was just great as far as I was concerned. :p

#5: Pirates 3: Rousing conclusion. I like Barbossa as an anti-hero, myself.

#6: Live Free, Die Hard: Best McClane one-line so far: "The Asian ***** who likes to kick people?" :p

Okay, everyone. The Fountain and Pan's Labyrinth are 2006 films.

As for the best of this year:

    1. Zodiac -- David Fincher's masterpiece and true Oscar material.

    2. Knocked Up -- Judd Apatow is on the fast track to become one of the greatest genre directors out there today.

    3. 300 -- We need more R-rated action epics.

    4. Grindhouse -- Not a movie so much as an experience. Sadly, much of the film's effect will be lost on DVD.

    5. The Namesake -- No one seems to have seen this movie. Great drama with some Oscar-worthy performances.

    6. Ratatouille -- I'm still soaking this one up. Although different from other Pixar films, it's no less great.

    7. Live Free or Die Hard -- Die Hard is very much alive.

    8. 28 Weeks Later -- What Aliens is to Alien, 28 Weeks Later is to 28 Days Later.

    9. Hot Fuzz -- British humor is so much fun. Loved seeing a spoof on action movies.

    10. Spider-Man 3 -- Initially a disappointment and nowhere near its flawless predecessor, but it's better than a lot of the other mediocre Summer movies out there right now.

Still haven't seen Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer or Ocean's 13.

I saw Ratatouille last night. It made me come to the conclusion that Pixar cannot make a bad movie. (Maybe A Bug's Life....Maybe). It is definitely one of the best films of the year.

I haven't seen Ratatouille yet, but I have also come to this conclusion. It is simply not possible for Pixar to make a crappy movie. IMHO, the closest they came was with Monsters Inc and I didn't think that that movie was bad persay, just miscast, which is something different.

Miscast as in bad voiceover work? If so, I strongly disagree.

And from what I've seen, IMHO, Cars is the worst Pixar film to date. Talk about miscasting there...

No, I don't mean bad voice work. I mean that I found that John Goodman and Billy Crystal just weren't that funny. I'm not that familiar with Goodman's work outside of this movie, The Flintstones and Rosanne, but I will say that he's not first person I think when I think of comedy. As for Billy Crystal, well he should stick with stand-up IMHO.

And see I absolutely adore Cars. I don't think any Pixar film is bad, they're like different flavors, some you like more then others.

I think Cars is awful. I just couldn't find any humor in it - it didn't seem to amount to much more than ethnic stereotypes.

I can see where you're coming from, Gobi. A lot of it does depend on preference, because Pixar's movies are extremely diverse. Fish in the ocean to a family of superheroes to talking cars to cooking rats. Aside from being animated, these movies have nothing in common besides the company that makes them.
I think someone needs to watch the Big Lebowski. ;)

I think I've seen parts of the The Lebowski, now that I think about it, and it wasn't so much funny as just total pot-fueled craziness.

John Goodman should have gotten an award for his performance in that movie.

    OVER THE LINE!
