Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze one-shot set during the Mandalorian Civil War (when Satine is on the run with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan) partly inspired by Finland's national poem 'The Kalevala'.

Author: SkyGirl91 (also posted on AO3)

    Title: In The Beginning

    Setting: Kalevala, 40 BBY

As evening fell over Kalevala, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Satine stopped by the heavily forested shores of a large freshwater lake and began to set up camp for the night.

Qui-Gon built a small fire under the eaves of the trees, while Satine went to refresh herself with water from the lake. Obi-Wan could not help but follow the young Duchess. He was her protector after all. The bright full moon above shone in Satine’s light blonde hair as she stooped to dip her hands in the cool water. It was warm weather and the day’s hike had been hot and dirty. She washed her face, neck, hands, and forearms. Obi-Wan came up beside her with a blanket for her to dry herself.

Suddenly, the young woman scooped up some water in her hands and threw it toward Obi-Wan, splashing him in the face. Satine laughed as she did so. Despite having a wet face, it occurred to Obi-Wan that Satine’s laughter was the sweetest sound he had ever heard. She rarely laughed and then only briefly. In the moonlight he could see her smiling at him.

‘What was that for?’ said Obi-Wan as he wiped his face dry.

Satine drew close and replied: ‘There was dirt on your handsome face, so I cleaned it off.’

Obi-Wan blushed and smiled, then he handed her the blanket. Obi-Wan watched shyly as Satine dried herself. She wrapped the blanket around herself, and then sat on the sandy shore of the lake.

‘Come, Obi, sit with me,’ she said, beckoning him to her side as she held out her arm.

Before Obi-Wan joined Satine, he glanced briefly over at Qui-Gon. His Master was too busy preparing dinner to notice the flirtatious couple so he sat down on the sand right next to her. She wrapped the blanket around his shoulders. Obi-Wan nervously played with his Padawan braid and tried not to meet her gaze.

‘Do you know how the tale of how the Mandalore system was created?’ asked Satine.

‘No,’ replied Obi-Wan shyly; he glanced at her briefly with a shake of his head.

‘In the beginning, there was nothing but water-mother. As she bathed in the vast oceans of space, a bird landed on her outthrust knee and laid eggs upon it. One day, as she moved her leg, the eggs fell into the water and smashed in half. But the pieces of egg changed into fair things: the bottom of the egg shells became each planet’s mother-earth, while the upper shells became the heavens above. The yolks merged and became the sun, while the whites separated and became moons for gleaming. The mottled parts of the eggs became the stars in the sky, while the black specks became the clouds of the air.’

‘I never came across that tale in the Jedi Archives,’ replied Obi-Wan.

‘It is known only to Mandalorians, passed down orally from generation to generation. My father, Adonai, told it to me when I was little.’

‘Thank you, Satine, for sharing it with me. I did not think myself worthy to hear such a sacred tale.’

‘You are worthy, Obi,’ replied Satine and kissed his cheek.

Obi-Wan reached for her hand and they sat thus until Qui-Gon called them for dinner.

As Obi-Wan walked behind Satine to the camp, he knew in his heart that he loved her. This he kept secret deep inside where he cloaked it with the Force.

Very sweet and affectionate! It kind of surprises me after all these years we still don't have an official story about Qui-gon and Obi-wans time on Mandalore!

Sweet and gentle teasing followed by a very nice folktale/myth. Satine genuinely likes Obi-Wan and he absolutely reciprocates. ;)
