I guess I would classify as kind of the geek, but no one else really knows it, except all my close friends who appreciate my quirks.

I like reading historical fiction and sci-fi, I'm writing a book about Amazons, which requires heavy and meticulous research, I love classical music and I play piano, but I also like alternative and rock.
Oh yeah, and I play soccer, and volleyball the most, volleyball is anger management for me, try spiking a ball against a concrete wall for an hour, it allows me to maintain some sanity.

But when I narrow it down, the basics of my life are school, Star Wars and snowboarding, which in my opinion is the best sport ever.
I also like making up strange theories and my friend makes them into comics with me and her and all my friends in them.
And you know what? I don't care if that is considered being a geek, because right now, I'm happy.

"And you know what? I don't care if that is considered being a geek, because right now, I'm happy."

And you know, that's all that really matters. I always get the weird looks in class when we're introducing ourselves on the first day of the semester and I announce Science-Fiction/Fantasy and Star Wars as two of my main interests, but frankly, I really don't care. As long as you're happy and havin fun, who cares what other people think?

I'm an architect, so I read architecture stuff, of which there is an endless supply.

However, I am proud to be a GEEK!!!! My husband is a geek also, and lately we have detected definite signs of geekishness in our daughter, who is nine. YAY!!!

We all read math books for fun.

My daughter and I collect comic books. That's kind of geeky, too, I guess.

Since we are agnostics, Star Wars is as close as my kid has gotten to religion. We often quote Yoda when encountering moral issues.

I guess I could say I'm a geek. Yeah....I was a physical geek in high school. I was in academic clubs and I'm totally unathletic, although I'm a strong swimmer and a good downhill snow skiier.

These days....well I have a full time job as an office and production manager for an advertising agency. I'm very outgoing and social person, and some people say I have the attention span of a ferret. Oh just watch me at Celebration II. I think my head well explode. I do do computer stuff, mostly because I'm the most knowledgable person in my office of them. I am also, as my sig says, the Indy Knights Webmaster. I'm in graduate school for Applied Sociology, and despite going this far in school, I have never had straight A's except for one semester in high school and this past semester in grad school, although I only took 2 classes. I'm a member of the Scottish Society of Indianapolis as well. Never make a woman with a claymore in her hand mad ;)

In my spare time, on an every day basis, I go to work, come home, hang with my cat Opie or with my boyfriend, play on the net a little and watch TV. I've been on a big Jane Austen kick lately, abandoning much of the Star Wars books I could be reading. I guess I'm a geek cause I'm proud of it. I honestly don't care.

    Wrong, they are geeks!

It's just they are geeks about more widely acceptable things.
    They are geeks over:
    cars
    girls
    guys
    fashion
    music
    football/sports
    beating up other kids
we all have our geekisms it's just that theirs' are expected to be the norm.

Actually, from my understanding, we are now living in an age where it is actually cool to be a geek. I mean, we've got Harry Potter and LoTR, so it's not dorky to be caught with a book; I don't think I know anyone who has a computer who doesn't at least spend ten or fifteen minutes online a day; and nowadays it's even a fashion trend to wear glasses. ::gasps/shock::

Which means that, judging by how many people here have confessed to being geeks... the TFN Lit forum is the coolest place on earth. But you already knew that. ;)

Anyways, even though I spend a significant portion of my spare time volunteering at the local YMCA, am a black belt in karate, and have plenty of friends whom I pal around with often, my vast collection of Star Wars books, toys, magazines, and internet bookmarks ensure that I will always stand proudly among the ranks of geekdom. :)

I live in england..................it is not easy being a star wars fan..........in fact....to my school and social group it is quite a bad thing, very very very very very very.......GEEKISH .

I do actually lead a very good life....i come on the internet for purely star wars...my friends expect to find porn and stuff in my favourites as they say ythatis what normal people have... I sadly have STAR WARS LINKS which is better than porn!!!!!!!
My friends make fun of me because of what i am refered to as a SNOB due to my quite severe english accent....yes the stereotypical accent.....it is very bad and they think i am a geek for my posh accent..( which I have been told is very similar to Hugh Grants)
my life is not really geekish i socialise with friends from a cool gang and i seem to be hiding my extensive star wars libarary in my room everytime they come round!!!!!!!!oh god ......... iam a geek

Okay. This is my first time ever posting on these boards. Although an often reader, I've never seen a topic to interest me in any particular given time. Untill now!
I never realized my "geek classifiaction" untill I went to Highschool (previously homeschool). At first there were a lot of people who would talk to me, then they slowly trickled off to a VERY VERY SMALL minority. Why? They began to hear the things I do for fun. It started off that I'm in band (a "Bandski" is what they call us), then it went from that to I get somewhat good grades, then they heard about my animals (I live on a farm and in 4-H), I show rabbits and poultry and because of this it set many people off. Then the big thing that turned a lot of people away was STAR WARS! I would mention it to people when they asked me what movies I liked and then after they heard that they simply backed away now pretty much no one talks to me at school. But the things listed above are everything I do besides SW. I was fully classified as a geek when I wouldn't shut up about Lord Of The Rings and was reading Tolkien at school, not to mention reading SW books.
I'm very shy and don't enjoy talking to people because mostly the respones I get from them are those of negativity because of the things I like to do, so am I a geek truely? Or is it all a steroetype?

you know the only time not being very popular bothers me? when I'm assigned a group project at school with people I don't know, or when we're supposed to pick partners for a project and I have no clue who anyone is. that bugs me. but this semester I usually have at least one of my friends in each of my classes, so it's all good.

Now that I think about it, I am not so sure I am a geek. What really is a geek? Other than liking SW I am like almost everyone else. When people hear I like SW it totally turns them away, but it doesnt bother me because they havent even read any of the books and most cant even remember the names of the movies. I do spend a lot of time in reading SW books but i still play my guitar all the time, I watch movies, and do my HW when I feel compelled to do so. _Tenel_Ka, I understand, I stinks if you have a class where you dont know anyone, exactly what happened in my math class last year and it stunk!

I guess I'm kind of a geek. I'm a Computer Hardware Technician. I also collect Legos and read Star Wars books all the time. Don't like and/or play any sports.

But to balence out my life (and hopefully make me less a geek) I'm a guitar player with 17 years experience and more shows under my belt than I can count. Let me tell you, you get strange looks reading a Star Wars novel at the bar before jumping on stage for one of your shows.

Well I guess I'll add to this thread with my free time stuff.....Oh wait I'm in college!

Well anyway, I like to read a lot, listen to music <Creed, Andrews Sisters, John Denver, Mozart, etc.> I am currently working on a fanfic. I'm a geology major and I think rocks are cool <guess I am a geek huh?> I have a lot of friends who are as geeky as I am so I guess I fit in just fine. My husband is a computer programer so we fit fine too!

Ok, what about music tastes here amongst the forum? Several people have chimed in with theirs, so I'll add mine in the hopes that others will too.

My favorite musician without a doubt is the great James Taylor, but that's not all I listen to. I listen to everything except country and really hardcore gangsta rap. I'm a big Linkin Park fan, and I must say they are amazing in concert. Not as good as James Taylor of course, but slightly better than Dave Matthews.

    So what about you guys?

    Linkin Park rocks. :)

Well, I listen to a lot of stuff, but I'm definitely a rock fan when it comes down to it. Bands on my playlist right now include Nickelback, Lifehouse, Sum 41, P.O.D., and U2. I've also got a lot of soundtracks (LoTR, of course, and anything John Williams-composed), and a few anime CDs.

Nothing too geeky, I hope. :)

sweet fancy moses, balance_point, you just about made a definitive list of all the bands I hate at the moment. No offence intended, I mean I have no doubts you hate what I like. horses for courses.

I guess I have a geek element- all star wars fans do, or at least all that hit the Lit Forums and talk about books. Its nothing to be ashamed of.

The 'geek' element isn't what has to be disassociated with star wars fans, its the stereotypical characteristics associated with geeks that need to be disassociated.

    starwars stereotype of geekdom haha.
    I'm all around pretty much.
I read books. lot's of books.
    I listen to music.
I play music in jazz, marching, and concert band. (band geek!)
I surf the internet for anything and everything.
I like to swim in artesian pools, i'm prejudice, can only swim in those now.
I do aerobics and tae bo sometimes. stretches at home.
I collect hello kitty stuff as well as starwars.
    Go to movies with friends.
    Debate.
    Computer program.
you want to hear geekism thingy? I read Vanity Fair when i was in eigth grade. if you haven't read it. your lucky, it's hard to get through and insane. And i kinda enjoy those awkard moments when your at the first day of school type intro things and you announce you love starwars and there's a mixed reaction of "Huh" and "ok...."

Music...well ya know classical is the best, and then some other people are ok at the right moments.
    i most enjoy being different.

Music? I'm a fan of most music. When I was a toddler, I used to watch music video show instead of cartoons :D

But my favorite music is punk and ska and most things alternative.
Bands - AFI, H2O, Reel Big Fish, The Living End, White Stripes (cant wait to see them at the Big Day Out!), The Strokes, Millencolin and Unwritten Law. To name a few :D
