Hmmm, Captain America #1 preview has me both intrigued and annoyed. Leinil's art is not my thing (since when were his women that block-like?), but the tease of Spoiler another Soviet super soldier program and one that again mentions how important winter is to Russia has me curious. I'll see how I feel when I get the issue later this week. This might be one of those things I pick up once several issues are available on sale digitally. I have issue #1 coming later this week (along with Doctor Strange Damnation finally). From that particular preview, not what I was expecting at all (which is good).
is this the 2nd Captain America #1 relaunch after Secret Empire? "No Caps the sentinel of liberty again now, we swear!" I actually haven't read much of any Nick Spencer but he's taking over my Spidery Man so he better be good. Dan Slotts final issue of ASM was one of the quickest reads in his entire run but it was much emotional. But Marcos Martin was doing the art, it's almost unfair.
Re: Cap relaunch. IDK. Frankly, I hope they avoid connections to SE as much as possible, but we'll see. Nick Spencer is on my no read list, so I hope he's good on Spidey.
I had the day off and was quite happy about getting in at opening time rather than trying to rush after work. This weeeeeeeeeeeeeeek: Hunt For Wolverine Weapon Lost 3 The Man of Steel 6 of 6. Death Of The Inhumans 1 with what looks like a DC Crisis cover. The Immortal Hulk 2 The Curse Of Brimstone 4 X-Men Gold 31 Justice League 3 Doctor Strange 3 Captain America 1 Astonishing X-Men 1, not sure why they restarted with a new #1. Catwoman 1, added this to the pull list. Batman 50, added this to the pull list. Used to be Detective Comics and Batman were the continuation of the same story but they are separate now. I have not returned to Detective Comics yet. The Avengers 4 Free DC Nation 2
Batman 50. Spoiler SO, no wedding. Instead we get a cut off then a fast forward to a broken Bat moment. Looks like this will take some time as the story continues in Catwoman #1.
To be fair, Spoiler King never said that they would go through it. Just that it would happen. But what will really bake one's brain is who is all involved. Now we know why Booster's gift turned out to be all kinds of screwed up.
Its more that I dislike the whole "superheroes can't have nice things" thinking that this feels a part of.
Yes, definitely RIP Steve Ditko. To me, his professional story is quite similar to Bill Finger's, in that, he created the visual manifestation of one of the most iconic and popular comic book characters in history, so much so that the character can be simply referred to as a pop culture icon, Spider-Man, but doesn't get the credit or notoriety he deserves. At least the MCU version of Spider-Man was heavily influenced by Ditko.
I have yet to get the Wal-Mart DC 100 page giants, but I did pick this up over the weekend. It reprinted "Batman Rebirth" #1, Wonder Woman #1 (2011), "Justice League Rebirth" #1 and Batman & Robin #30. Also, it contained additional bonus material.
Captain America #1 wasn't bad. Still not a fan of Leinil's art, though his Bucky is solid so that's good. Not enough for me to hang around though. I did start reading Damnation which is shaping up to be good fun. Not surprised at how cheap Marvel has becoming with trade paperbacks though, the cover and pages are almost newsprint thin. For what they charge, the cover and pages should be thicker stock. After Old Man Hawkeye vol. 1, I doubt I'll buy another trade from them.
Damnation: eh. Okay. Best thing about it was the Johnny Blaze one shot with Phil Noto killing it on the art duties (as usual). Coates sometimes epically failes with his attempts at being edgy or funny, though Bats had a few hilarious moments especially with Dormammu (I think Doctor Strange 389 was my favorite issue of the whole Damnation story besides the Johnny Blaze one shot). That said, I am over Doctor Strange constantly screwing up and losing his magic, so I'll skip the current run until after he's gotten his mojo back. Have to say I am very curious about the Fantastic Four, so I might try that.
