    I have a sony wega

There's the first of your problems *hugs of sympathy*. WEGA technology is the bane of home-theater users everywhere :( My 15 year old analogue TV still looks better than anything in the WEGA brand.

NZPoe What brand or model is your analoge?

My wega is not HD, it's just a simple 32" wega.

I used to have your run of the mill 27" sharp, which in my opinion looked damn good when I used THX calibration, but in comparision to my wega... the wega is lightyears ahead of my sharp. IMHO.

I just don't have the budget to score a plasma or an HDTV... There was a discussion earlier about upgrading your hometheater system because of the CT now on DVD... Been dreaming... :)

I have a Sony Trinitron, 29". It could be variations in regions, but the WEGA TV's we have here in NZ are absolutely awful. The images come out blocky as hell, massive pixelations, aliasing problems, poor colour saturation, gah it just doesn't end. They're the worst TV's on the market here in NZ plus they're plagued with breakdown problems because of the cheap parts inside them. I have a few friends who work in home electronics retail and they refuse to carry WEGA line stock simply because they lose too much money.

Phillips still has the best value for money in the flat-screen tube television range, followed by LG and Pioneer.

I remeber the first year the wega came out, and it was horrible, but mine is one year old... I have not noticed a problem as of yet... and I am crossing my fingers, in regards to your info...

Your TV is a great one. My friend's dad had one, and the image was great... I think Bug's Life looked just amazing.

Ahh you've got the NEW Wega line...might explain it. We've not had them here yet, but I've heard they're a marked improvement. Would be interested in having a look at them :D Funky!

Question. Was I like the only SW fan that got the DVD-trilogy in Full Screen?

You miss 50% of the trilogy then. Your loss I guess...

Just bought and finished watching the DVD. most of the changes I really like. I love the Emperor being fixed, even though he still doesn't look quite right. And I love Boba's voice being changed to Jangos. I didn't really care for the Hayden thing, but every thing else was good.

I don't know if this is a change or not, but I wonder if anybody else have noticed this. In ROTJ when Luke is brought before the Emperor, there is a "whining" sound (it sounds like Wooooo and goes down in pitch) that I haven't heard before. It's kinda annoying. It can be heard especially well when Luke answer the Emperor with: "You're gravely mistaken." The sound is only there in that scene.

I wish they would've put a bit more effort into ANH on the DVDs. There are many places where it just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the movies. For instance, there are several places where they could've used music where there was none (Preparing the ships on Yavin, Obi-wan / Vader duel). And the space battles are still lacking. You can still see the boxes around the TIES when they were using bluescreen, and they explosions still have those low budget sparks spraying everywhere when they blow up. If you ask me, if the entire saga is meant to be watched from beggining to end, ANH will seem really out of place.

On the other hand, I'm glad they fixed Jabba.

well, i found a few lightsaber errors in ESB.

right after luke turns on his lightsaber after vader says "you are not a jedi yet", you can see right through the blade!

and right after luke falls into the carbon freezing chamber, vader says "perhaps you are not as strong as the emperor thought". right when he says "thought", the color goes out of the blade, and you can see the rod!

seriously, they take all this time with ian as emperor and boba's voice change, and other changes but the lightsabers were completely ignored

I finally completed the Trilogy with ROTJ today. It was AMAZING!
Young Anakin, Vader's unmasking and the new celebration footage was breathtaking!

Overall, there are a few things about the DVDs that bug me:
    ANH:
The dialogue. With the DVDs it was the first time I saw the original, English dubbing of the complete Trilogy. I was surprised by the voices having more depth depending on which way the actor is facing- like during the Leia/ Tarkin scene.

The music was thoned down while the sound effects were extremely loud in some places- which is great but not on the music's expense. I want both loud.

    The Lightsabers and explosions:
These were way too inconsistent- for the whole Trilogy. I wish all explosions had the pretty colours of the first three Y-Wings blowing up or the fighters that get shot down in the trench or the last TIE that gets shot down during the Falcon vs. TIE Fighters scene.

TESB: I don't see what's wrong with Temuera's voice. I like it best when he says the "Bring Captain Solo in the cargo hold" line.
The dialogue and music were again less dominant than the sound effects.

    ROTJ:
The final duels suffers a bit from bad looking Lightsabers, IMO.
Especially Vader's pink saber in some shots and the clash of both sabers in front of Palpatines face.

    The sound:
The dialogue and music again were less dominant than the sound effects. Somehow the DS II space battle sounded flawed to me. The surround mixing was a bit out of place in case a ship flies by (which can be heard in the back right speaker) suddenly pops up- seemed a bit strange IMO.
I was hoping for a louder generator explosion, and the Death Star blowing up too. I also expected more sounds during the flight above the DS surface as well as during the superstructure run.

The Speederbikes and AT-ST's looked greener to me. In some cases they looked more superimposed probably because the images are so much sharper and cleaner than on VHS.

All in all, seeing this Trilogy on DVD with all it's enhancements was brilliant. I got picky, thanks to you Internet scum. These movies are almost perfect to me and if I'd turn off my picky state of mind I would probably not notice one single flaw. The problem with you guys is that you can spoil one's movie by pointing out all the little bloopers and other things that bother you.
That's a real downside about Internet forums and fans in general.

"if I'd turn off my picky state of mind I would probably not notice one single flaw."

You'd notice Luke's green saber on the Falcon
but you simply wouldn't care :p

ah, by the way, I saw TESB three times on DVD so far (ANH and RotJ only twice) and Temuera's voice does grow on me. It was weird at first, of course, because it was kinda "wrong" (not the voice one is used to). The more I hear it, the less I notice that it's a change.

But damn, I still haven't listened to new Boba in German

Was the sound of Slave I changed so that it sounds like in AOTC, or did it always sound like that? I think it's nice that the sounds are kept consistent either way!

and yes, it's better. I don't even remember the old engine sound. Why? Because it wasn't memorable...

The German dubbing wasn't changed from what I've heard. Ony the new Emperor's holograph transmission has a new dubbing. Vader's voice is noticibly different as the guy who voiced him died not too long ago. Palpatine is the PT Palpatine's voice. So now the only Emperor dialogue that sounds different is ROTJ Emperor's.

It's kinda sad that Fox Germany (or whoever worked on these DVDs) did such a bad job on the backcover of the TESB DVD. The AT-AT's torso is cut off because of the text!! Looks pretty crappy but oh well.

Something that is apparent to me is the cheap shortcuts that Lucas takes when messing about with the Trilogy. These films mean so much to so many people but these quick fixes would seem to reveal a lack of respect for the fans and the films.

    Some examples:

    1. Luke's scream

We all know the bizarreness of Luke's added (and since removed again) scream as he falls in ESB. What is stranger, however, is why Lucas saw fit to simply use the Emperor's scream from ROTJ and not record anything new. Very obvious to fans.

    2. Vader's arrival

For reasons known only to Lucas himself, the 'Star Destroyer' arrival scene added to ESB is footage from the Death Star arrival in ROTJ. Same docking bay, shuttle and background. Even Death Star Commander JerJerrod is there to greet him - clearly mouthing the words he says in the subsequent movie. Of course, it is not "an unexpected pleasure" as Vader's newly dubbed line on Cloud City is much more expository than the original.

    3. Boba's new voice

Whatever the merits of changing the voice, few could argue that the reading is very poorly done. I doubt that Temuera Morrison even watched the scenes he was dubbing for as he rushes through his lines.

    4. Added Naboo Scene.

Lucas thought that this planet should be included in his continuing montage of celebrations. However, simple re-using a scene from TPM and flipping it would seem to be a lazy way to do it. It would appear that Naboo has remained 100% unchanged through Imperial Rule!

    5. Hayden Ghost

Having decided that there is no good in Vader after all and that Anakin died in episode 3, Lucas decides to add 'evil Anakin' into ROTJ. There is some debate as to whether this was filmed especially for ROTJ or whether it is taken of Hayden in the ROTS canteen. Certainly the acting, expressions and total lack of eye line would support the latter.
What is certain is that Lucas felt no need to put Anakin in a relevant costume, instead opting to cut and paste Hayden's head onto Shaw's traditional robes. Robes that Anakin never wore.

If Lucas is so passionate about his vision, why the laziness in implementing it?

<<If Lucas is so passionate about his vision, why the laziness in implementing it?>>

Because we'd buy it even if he had Luke, Leia, and Han singing in one of the scenes. There would even be people who would defend this change with a passion.
Lucas would say that it was always intended to be there as part of his original vision and people would believe him.

I'm beginning to think George should run for office. He'd win and everytime he made a change he'd say that it was always what he intended and people would believe him.
