Does anyone have a digitized copy of the OLD jabba? I'd like to compare. I don't have a VHS player anymore.

Maybe it's a wrong brightness setting

It must be because on my end (where I have near-perfect calibration) he looks excellent!

it got a little quiet... so...any news of the emperor scene?

hey guys i think there might be an extra disk for the prequel trilogy too!

i saw that in the Jurassic park 3 dvd they had an offer to get the fourth bonus disk and the case...so they might do this with episode 3 star wars ..seing how jurassic park is like Steven Spielberg and seeing how Indiana Jones connects Steven and George..and seeing the similarities in the dvds

"First, the soundtrack is exactly the same from the 97 SE. Jabba's voice and dialogue are exactly the same except he squeals a bit less when Han steps on his tail (at least to my ear)."

    * PUKES * [face_sick]

    Worst. Voice work. EVER.

If they were going to go through the trouble to fix the scene, would it have been that hard to record vocals that sounded like JABBA, and not some fat American faking an alien language?

    [image=http://www.coolquiz.com/trivia/explain/docs/images/booger.gif]

"Han, my boogie! You're the best!"

So where is this vid at?

I agree that the ANH Jabba sounded like someone doing a bad impression.

They should have gotten whoever did his TPM voice to redo it. Even that voice wasn't perfect, but it was way better than the voice in ANH.

Razorback, in the words of Bart Simpson 'Buh??'
    LOL! :D

To be honest, I DO believe that they have got Temeura to do the lines again, but I still think it would be incredibly 100% easy peasy for someone who has the RIP to say 'yes, ALL Bobas lines have been re-done'. If the DVD is on the net and many people have downloaded it why cant this simple fact be confirmed? It shouldnt be hard to confirm, so why aint anyone done it?

BTW. The fishy smell was the kippers my dad was eating.......
    ;)

DTJ, thats great news about the Jabba scene. Its funny when you compare CG now to CG 7 years ago. Advancements and better detailing look even more impressive when comparing an old CG model to a NEW one (as someone said, I dont know whether this has ever been done?). The old Jabba looks atrocious now compared to the new one!

IMO the new Jabba looks fantastic, and as someone said, yes he may look smaller than the ROTJ Jabba, but it must be hard to insert a character of that size into a space that was never intended to include a creature of his bulk and get away with it and ILM have done a great job this time.

    ***NEWSFLASH****

Maybe I was wrong about the ESB DVD being leaked at the moment?! I have been reliably informed that only ANH and ROTJ have been so far?? Is this true (because if it is then it isnt that easy to say if Boba's lines have been re-done!!)

    DOH!

Jabba's voice didnt sound too bad in ANH IMO. I actually prefered it to TPM Jabba, dont know why? I thought TPM Jabba sounded too processed?? Like they were trying too hard to make a deep voice??

    >>compare CG now to CG 7 years ago.<<

It's been a LONG time since I saw the SE. What is supposedly so bad about the Jabba there as opposed to Menace? Or is everyone just referring to having him move so fast, or some of the frame hiccups?

LLS:I just imagine EmpireOfTheSon and DarthMarkyMark are dressed as Imperial officers while they discuss British television personalities...

Ah, good evening. Imperial Officer EmpireOfTheSon reporting for duty [spoken in best English 'classically trained actor'-type voice] ;)

We Brits always play the baddy for one very simple reason. We sound more scheming, calculating and upper-class than the rest of you! :p

Does anyone have any exciting news to report?

EDIT: R2-12point, the old Jabba looked NOTHING at all like the ROTJ one (not that it wasnt 'cutting edge' for 1997) He was WAY TOO SLIM and you only have to compare it to the Jabba in TPM to see how different CGI effects had become....

    >>>R2-12point, the old Jabba looked NOTHING at all like the ROTJ one <<<

Yeah, but neither does the Menace one much, at least in terms of texture. What got improved specifically? (besides the SLIM thing, which I can kinda remember.)

As EmpireoftheSon says, the Jabba in ANH SE didnt really resemble Jabba at all. Yes he looked like a Hutt but not Jabba.

He was too small (corrected slightly for the DVD)
His mouth was wrong (corrected for the DVD)
His eyes were totally different (corrected for the DVD)

Also his general look has been corrected for the DVD. His chin, eyes, nose and mouth look like the ROTJ Jabba a LOT more that the SE one. The thing is, inserting a character with the bulk of Jabba into a scene that was always intended to just have a human filling the space where he now occupies, then you will always have to compromise with his size a little. I think he looks slightly biger in the DVD than he did in S.E.

    BUT

His colour was SPOT ON in the S.E!!!

The only good thing about it now looking back was that his colour matched ROTJ Jabba (he was a bottle green with orange face and orange eyes).

And yet on the NEW version they have him as DARK GREEN with a YELLOW face and YELLOW eyes??

WHY? This isnt Jabbas colour in ANH OR TPM and yet in ANH he is now a totally different colour? Apart from that I think he looks great!!

Mesa thinks it is the darkness and the contrast of the DVD rip that makes Jabba's spots look so corky.

EmpireOfTheSon, I'm not sure why, but in that last post I imagined you sounding less like an Imperial officer...

...and more like Baby Stewie on 'The Family Guy'.

As CGI Jabbas go, I think I was most impressed with the TPM version. Is it fair to say that the inconsistancies in Jabba simply come down to artistic interpretation? I remember the original CGI artist for Jabba in '97 (I believe his name was Steve(?) Williams) describing how he INTENTIONALLY altered Jabba's appearance, particularly something with the eyes.

As a fellow artist, I feel kind of bad for him because at the time, he seemed very proud of his work and people have been bashing it ever since.

I'd be curious to know the names of the artists who worked on Jabba for TPM and the artists who worked on him for the DVD. Are they different people?

Does anyone know? DTJ, you seem like you're pretty well informed about all things Star Wars.

If not, perhaps a Super Secret Fake Insider like RB might know.

Left as is, it feels like a film series where different actors have taken over a part. Think 'Darrin' on 'Bewitched'...

...or the guy who replaced Mark Hamill after Episode IV. :p

Why would I be joking? If the settings were off, Jabba's bumps would look a lot more prominent. Razorback says it looks fine on his end because he fiddled with the brightness and contrast.

Curse you LLS!!! You may have discovered my REAL identity but my plans for world domination will not be prevented by some whipper-snapper like you...

Oh no, I've soiled my nappy..... [face_blush]

EDIT: Yeah, Jabba's now dark brown, Darth's saber is pink and Yoda is now yellow.....

FIDDLE WITH YOUR BLINKIN' CONTRAST!!!! [Michael_Caine - type cockney accent]
