not that I don't trust the trade papers, they are pretty accurate but has this been officially confirmed by Disney/Lucasfilm ? I am willing to give this a chance, at least till we see Him In Han Solo trailers for the movie... Disney/Lucasfilm has done a Great Job with Casting so far with TFA and what we can tell from Rogue One so far so no Worries on my part!
It's not http://www.starwars.com][/url] Here but I think they may just be waiting until Monday before making an official announcement so it doesn't overshadow Captain America: Civil War's opening weekend.
If Deadline and Variety reported it, then its pretty much 100% "confirmed" (Variety were the first to report Adam Driver).
Right, it seems to be pretty likely at this point... but to answer Leoluca Randisi : no, it's not officially confirmed yet.
To be fair, it took a bit less than a year to officially confirm Rian Johnson for Episode VIII, despite the fact that he himself was openly talking about it days after the trades reported it. And with Trevorrow, it was reported a good month or two prior to D23. I think the official website even said "Don't believe everything you read online; it's not official before we say it is" in response to the rumors of his hiring, and lo and behold it turned out to be true. So yeah, long story short is, I'm willing to accept this is pretty much set in stone by this point. I agree that not wanting to overshadow Civil War's opening weekend makes sense as to why they haven't made it officially official. Monday makes sense from my perspective, but who knows when we'll hear something?
It's going to be a different spin on a beloved character, for sure. People equate it to recasting James Bond, but it's more like recasting Kirk, Spock and McCoy - for viewers of a certain generation, Leonard Nimoy was Spock and no matter how good Zachary Quinto is in the role, Nimoy was Spock for around 45 years in people's minds. When Sean Connery's Bond was succeeded by first George Lazenby and then Roger Moore, that happened over a much briefer span of years. In comparison, Harrison Ford has effectively been Han Solo to a lot of people for at least three generations. That's a lot of cultural weight and time to overcome. I actually don't think there's a part in the world that can't be recast - even in Star Wars. SW is mythology and stories like that are designed to be told and retold, and if they're any good - and I think they are, as I'm sure everyone on this board does - they'll be retold again by new generations; different spins will be put upon old stories; new points of view added. It becomes a process of layering by different contributors rather than the singular vision of one storyteller. It never really *was* the vision of one storyteller - he may have been the supreme creator, but there was a hell of a lot of hired help. In the past, people used to wait a few years; now beloved cultural institutions get rebooted ad nauseum. So I'm inured to the idea that this is going to happen, whether I like it or not. If I sound like I'm ambivalent, at this point, I am, but it's more as a measure of being protective of my own memories than any worry about a new actor in the role. After all, why not be open-minded? What is there to lose? I totally reserve the right to love this film when it sees the light of day; at the same time part of me is wedded to the version of Han Solo I grew up with. This guy's gotta be different, but good. He's got to charm in a whole new way, but a way that somehow matches that of his predecessor. He's got to win over a fandom that wants him to be something he can't possibly be, and that's a hell of a tall order. On the other hand, if he manages to do it, he's gonna get a lot of kudos...
On the fence...but I was never really a huge Han fan. Now if they were attempting recast Luke I would probably have my panties in a bunch. For this new guy, I have no idea who he is and I actually hope I don't see him in much before the Han movie, I don't want to have baggage when I see him, would prefer to go in fresh. I am getting more excited about this film though.
Really on the fence about this whole thing and the film in general. Especially if he has a cameo in rogue one. Can't imagine that not being shoehorned.
This movie will get my money no matter what. This may not be my most anticipated Anthology film, but I will give my dollars to Star Wars regardless.
The thing is, the idea of a Han Solo film might be somewhat controversial amongst the fandom. BUT, that doesn't mean that it'd be so amongst the GA. They might end up really excited for it, since Han is a really beloved character. We'll see soon enough.
All depends on the execution. A Han Solo origin story was never on my bucket list of Star Wars films, but who knows? It could end up being the best one yet. I am especially looking forward to seeing more fun underworld stuff.
See I'm not even convinced that it'll be a straight up "origin story." It could end up being like the recent Dredd film. Basically "a day in the life of young Han Solo" type of deal, with perhaps his first meeting with Chewie being involved. Which doesn't really count as an "origin story" imo.
I wonder how the buddy cop genre is going to work out in the gffa. Could be brilliant, could be b.p.r.d.
I wish him the best of luck and I hope the folks who see this enjoy his performance as a younger Han.
he looks more like Temuera Morrison than Ford-...which could support my long running and almost universally reviled theory that Han was Jango's so, who ran away (or went "solo"), which is why Jango demanded a clone of himself around the age Han took off.
Yeah, it's difficult knowing how far back they'll go with this. However, there needs to be some sort of character development. Will we see him acquire the falcon? Will we see him meet Chewie for the first time? Will he have a love interest? Will we see Boba Fett? Will we see Jabba? So many questions..... Whatever happens, I'm all in for this. I think it's gonna be great.
Kasdan said we were to see how and why Han became who he is ANH, no? Meaning, maybe he wasn't always an *******, but something made him change. Weren't there rumors of Han's brother being in this? And the brother, ya know..
Scott Mendelson on Forbes thinks the film could be a test run for an eventual Indiana Jones reboot. http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottme...ead-to-a-rebooted-indiana-jones/#2142536829b4
Sure, it gives a read on the potential for a rebooted Indy, but the Han Solo movie isn't some project dreamed up by the marketing division. Lucas was wanting to tackle Han's story ever since development for Underworld.
I agree. I think the resemblance is very weak. I feel as though one of the other actors who were considered would be a better fit. Han Solo is such a vital SW character that making a movie about him after his death seems a little risky. They would R.E.A.L.L.Y. have to get it right in order for it to work. JMHO.
