Seems to me that Krennic has come to take Galen to Scarif, presumably because he has got word that Galen has engineered his escape. Jyn misses out on getting to him by a heartbeat though.

That he is keeping his natural accent is such a bonus.

    Guess he's from Zaloriis then

Irrefutable proof that RO has (probably accidentally) retroactively reduced General Taggi from ANH to the rank of "commander" - because that's the rank badge the young "Commander" Krennic is now wearing.

Looks like nobody considered the possibility that Taggi was adressed by Admiral Motti as "commander-in-chief" (of the Imperial Starfleet), since film credits, screenplay and novelization clearly identify him as a general.

Maybe he was in a ROTJ mood on that day

According to Wookieepedia "Krennic was promoted to Commander [rank]" after the Galactic Empire was formed.

Judging by Krennic's rank badge during that time, either that information is incorrect (he's already holding the rank of General) or General Taggi never held the rank of General (despite official and original information stating exactly that).

Curiously there was another Imperial officer in ANH adressed as "commander" wearing a rank badge that's different from Taggi's:

And Wookieepedia identifies his rank as "Commander" http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nahdonnis_Praji

In short: With Krennic's rank badge of "Commander" we'll now demote General Taggi to the same rank of "Commander" and Praji becomes something else (perhaps he's also degraded).

Maybe Praji and Krennic having the same number of squares, is why they're both "commander". With the differing colors indicating differing services and skillset.

Tagge is "commander" and also "general" - perhaps that extra code cylinder compared to Praji is what marks his generalship?

SW has never been all that consistent with how badges relate to ranks anyway. So I don't put much stock in it TBH. If someone is specifically addressed by a particular rank, then that's what I go with.

Catalyst and the new tv-clips show Krennic as a real monster, someone who is willing to go to any lengths and betray any friend to advance himself. What's not so clear to me is why Palpatine would give him such power since Krennic can't be trusted. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Krennic ends up betraying the Empire.

Sheev seems to get some kind of perverse pleasure out of messing with people/pitting his lackey's against one another. Also he's exceedingly arrogant/self-confident (which was his undoing in the end). So he likely gets a kick out of watching Krennic work while fully believing that, when it comes right down to it, Krennic is no real threat to him at all.

Yeah, I can kinda see that. The drawback of it however is that it makes the Empire seem less threatening if it's leader acts so foolishly and self-indulgent. In some EU stories it almost seems like the Empire imploded from its own incompetence rather than through the acts of the Rebellion. In total I prefer interpretations that make the Emperor appear more competent and wise (while not painting him as omniscient and omnipotent because despite all his power he's just a man with flaws).

In the Darth Vader comics the Emperor's schemes massively and horribly backfire and you'd think he'd wisen up when this happens.

Well the OT already did quite a good job of highlighting the Empire's weaknesses/incompetence in a variety of ways. One of which was Luke actually flat-out telling Sheev to his face that his arrogance/over-confidence was his greatest weakness.

Success breeds complacency. Palpatine is on the back foot in the OT because he thinks he's fighting the last war, i.e. the one against the Jedi. He doesn't understand real opposition because A) his true opponents were stupid and B) he manufactured a resistance to his rule.

And that's fine, especially the execution of it in the OT, but they shouldn't go overboard with it in the EU. Palpatine is supposed to be overconfident, not an utter fool who trusts people that will obviously screw him over. In Cylo it is believable that Palpatine makes a mistake but like I said if it happens too often it doesn't make him look very smart.

I doubt Palpatine is even aware of Krennic's existence given that he thinks if he completes the Death Star he will finally get an audience with the Emperor.

In Catalyst it's pretty clear that Wilhuff is tacitly allowing Krennic to get what he needs to keep the Galen Erso energy project, because he knows it will wind up blowing up for Krennic and then Big Willie can step in.

Yeah and if Tarkin and Krennic are busy feuding with each other, then they won't be nearly as much of a potential threat to Sheev. It's Dictator Tactics 101, play your subordinates off against each other (or at least allow rivalries to fester) so that they're less of a potential threat to your own power.

It is a common tactic and yet many Dictators die rather young.

    Grievpalpy75

Seems very unlikely given the importance of the project. If Palpatine wants to keep in power he better make sure he choses the right underlings to oversee the Death Star project.

To be fair, most of them don't have a brutal enforcer who overthrows them as the dictator is busy torturing the enforcer's son. ;)

So...could someone tell me if Krennic dies or not? I'm assuming he does.
