Well I think his character wasn't that well written. I mean, I have just read interview where Kathy says she thinks is one of the best villains SW has.. not really tbh ;)
But I loved his scene with Vader when he choked him and warned him.. epic^:)^

Krennic - coulda died harder and never got to say that great "Immeasurable" line from the previews :(
But he was played very well by the goofy Ben Mendelsohn :)

That moment when you're getting upstaged by someone who's been dead since 1994. [face_worried]

    The Krennic/Tarkin rivalry was amazing.

Krennic really would have needed more scenes IMO- he was nice bad guy- not really complicated but fun to watch. I expected him to have larger role but he was mainly Tarkin's errand boy.
Being killed by DS he considered his own project, was kinda ironic though, but quite a usual way for bad guys to go.

Instead of rivalry between too equals it was more like Krennic was just trying to talk big to his boss- Tarkin was obviously one with the power and Krennic just tried to challenge him and failed miserably.

Can't stop wondering if this "original" scene would have been the prelude to his suicide. His death was rather "unspectacular", but a suicide was probably a no-go for Disney.

He was a great character, and felt organic to the world of ANH.

Krennic isn't really what he was hyped up to be and everyone was expecting. Everyone was expecting him to be the Grand Moff Tarkin substitute but, well, that obviously wasn't necessary.

Instead, if I were to describe him, I'd say Krennic is Wayland Smithers.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

He's kind of a bully and a bad person but he's ridiculously out of his depth compared to the other guys.

I think it's funny that everyone is still trying to shoehorn in their pet theories, and using random scenes that didn't make it in to do so.

What about that makes you think he's walking off to commit suicide? Doesn't it make a lot more sense that its just him walking to to the citadel tower thats right there? The same place we see him confront Jyn, wrapping up the conflict with the family that we witnessed through out the movie?

Don't think I get the analogy.

I mean yes, I agree with your other points that he's always chasing the next promotion, the next step so that he's the one in charge, and he might be a little above his pay grade in all of that, but how's that make him Smitthers?

Agreed. Though I guess him being out of depth helps explain how gaylin succesully sabotaged the project fom the inside

If Catalyst didn't exist, I'd say that Krennic was a college dean promoted to a military project, like he used to work at the Coruscant Institute of Technology or something.

A paper pusher who never saw a day of combat during the Clone Wars but thinks he's going to someday be one of the Joint Chiefs.

To use a genuinely badass friend of mine's descriptions, "Real badasses don't need to do **** to prove themselves but the poseurs always feel the need to, making things worse." Hence why Krennic murders all the other engineers just to make himself feel like he's in control of the situation.

Just the general fawning and toadying attitude.

    1. He basically has this giddy joygasm when Tarkin is impressed by the weapon and asks if he'll tell Mister Burns the Emperor he did well.
    2. Asking Darth Vader, could you please get me an audience with the Emperor so I can explain to him? Krennic's position is literally, "Could you get me a meeting with the boss?" Which kind of flat out says he's not someone the Emperor has EVER made hologram time for.
    3. Krennic being more afraid Darth Vader will FIRE him than strangle him....and not out of an airlock.
    4. His BOLD declaration he's going to go through ALL of Galen Erso's e-mail.

    Sweet Chosen One, that's....wow.

I really liked him as a character and performance. His early scene with Galen et. al. was really good, it showed his insincerity well. I loved the line "here she is back from the dead" (not exact quote of course).

I don't Disney would have anything against suicide in PG-rated movie- seems odd after that Vader slaughter and death of every single main character they would ban bad-guy's suicide:confused: . I think they just wanted Krennic to die by his own creation as he considers Death Star to be his doing.

I loved Krennic, he wasn't the like the typical imperials we've gotten so far. His death was pretty lame though.

So we saw Krennic get shot by Cassian on top of the tower....and we see Krennic watching the Death Star fire its shot. Why didn't Krennic try to get to his shuttle? It was on the landing pad at the base of that tower. I just wanted to SEE HIM DIE.

Mendelsohn is a brilliant actor, so I was really hyped when he was first cast...but IMO, the Krennic character didn't give him much to work with. I was hoping Whitta/Weitz or whoever would be able to write a really strong villain for him, but as it stands, he just came off as somewhat forgettable.

I've noticed this becoming a bit of a trend with nu-Star Wars, as I think the same could be said with Oscar Isaac and Gleeson in TFA, and arguably even Felicity here in R1. Excellent actors being being somewhat squandered with blah roles...

When Krennic is lying on the floor in Mustafar, recovering from being force choked by Vader... does he smile?
Despite having been knocked down by Vader, does he realize that he is still in the game?

Yeah very much so. He is a fantastic actor. But he really excels in slimy loser untrustworthy guy roles like his good work in Killing Them Softly and Netflix's Bloodline. An Imperial Officer doesn't fit that description. They could have added a layer or two to the character to make it work better

I like Ben Mendelsohn, and I believed in the character - he made perfect sense in that imperial bureaucratic milieu. He was small fry compared to Vader and Tarkin, and was swatted by Tarkin in the end.

Was he a super-villain? No. It made sense - the movie actually makes sense! Isn't that something, in this day and age? The film didn't try and upstage what had gone before, and is the better for it.

I was quite underwhelmed by Krennic, Tarkin and Vader ruled the villain area of the movie.
