Kathleen has to be considering that (or considering directors who like to work with him). After Blade Runner, in particular, Deakins can do no wrong, IMO.
I watched Dunkirk last night. Hoyte Van Hoytema would be a good DP choice for a future Star Wars project. Spoiler https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0887227/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr10
I hid the video with spoiler tags to merely reduce the size of the post, particularly because this is the Bradford Young thread. I kinda felt like I was derailing Bradford's thread by talking about another cinematographer. Is this better?
He’s really good, but I prefer Young’s (and Fraser’s and Deakins’) use of lighting, who allow for deep shadows. Van Hoytema overlights those dark scenes, in my view, though he makes up for it in other places.
If he was still up to it, Chris Menges would be a dream for Kenobi (based on Daldry involvement). Sadly I think he's retired. Presumably though it would be Trash and The Crown cinematographer Adriano Goldman, who is no slouch.
Yup, Goldman is a pro. I really appreciate his work on the Crown. Elevates that show to a cinematic level.
