Rogue One [Official Info] Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) in Rogue One

Ok, here they start... the prevarications.

I have nothing more to say. I'm sure most moviegoers won't mind this because they probably have never seen TCW. But for me, personally, I wont be able to watch TCW and Rogue One and feel like it's the same Saw.

 

I can't believe there are actually arguments against casting Forrest Whitaker. Come on! He's ... Like ... An excellent actor. Star Wars needs those!

 

Wow. Wasn't expecting this. Nice to see a character from the animated series getting the live-action treatment (after The Force Awakens gave the live-action treatment to the Kyuzo species). Probably the first time we got a character that was originally designed for Expanded Universe material into live-action since Aayla Secura.

Considering what we've heard so far about the Onderon Partisans (being one of the more brutal rebel cells), this should provide an interesting dynamic for the film. On that note, I wonder if Onderon itself is showing up in this film (or if it was one of the planet's in the trailer).

Who cares if an actor looks exactly like a cartoon character in color shade? You got an AMAZING actor, that's WHAT matters.

 

And here is the thing, Saw is not a Disney-era character. He was created before the Disney buyout. Even though TCW was kept in the new canon the fact still remains they picked a character created in the old EU to be a main character in a new EU movie. If Saw can make the jump to the movies, who else can?

 

Cade Bane, Hondo, Ventress, Thrawn, etc.

 

I already got suspicions about their plans for that last character.

 

Not to mention Quinlan Vos.

This news has me hyped. I'm a fan of Whitaker and hearing he is Saw is fantastic.

 

I wonder if Whitaker is familiar with Saw Gerrera.

 

He may not have known the character before, but I'm sure they asked him to watch all of the relevant episodes of TCW.

 

I'm sure he did the proper research for his role. Gotta know where the character started out to fully bring out who the character is in the present.

I think it's more likely he studied revolutionaries and jihadists like Castro and Bin Laden over the animated version of the character.

 

One can do both.

 

Look at Carrie Fisher from ANH and look at Carrie in TFA. Do they look or sound like the same person?

Probably. It makes sense since they're making an effort to include a TCW character in the movie. The question is more what will he reference? Just the events we see him take part in? Or other stuff?
